A Typology of Student Engagement for American Colleges and Universities

The Carnegie classification system has served as a framework for research on colleges and universities for more than 30 years. Today, the systems developers are exploring criteria that more effectively differentiate among institutions. One approach being considered is classifying institutions based on students educational experiences. This study explored whether it is possible to create a typology of institutions based on students experiences. Results indicated that such a typology could be created, and the types were somewhat independent of institutional mission (i.e., Carnegie classification)Paper presented at the annual meeting of the Association for Institutional Research, Boston, MA (May 2004)

在英汉对比研究翻译中，根据不同的交际功能可以将文本归纳为不同的文本类型，而不同的文本相应地反映出不同的语言文化差异。拟从德国功能翻译理论来分析英汉互译，旨在研究英汉互译中不同文本类型的语言特点及其翻译策略。     

Patterns of student interaction in Clark-Trow subgroups

Previous research on the Clark-Trow model has failed to provide evidence on whether students classified into the same Clark-Trow subgroup interact with one another or are even aware of their common orientation. Yet, this is a basic tenet of claims that these subgroups operate as campus subcultures. This study investigated whether students who self-select into the same Clark-Trow subgroup interact significantly more often with each other than they do with members of the other three subgroups. The results tend to disconfirm expectations based on the Clark-Trow model and suggest these subgroups do not operate as student subcultures.

呼唤型文本的翻译补偿——以广告的翻译为例

目前,国内针对呼唤性文本翻译补偿策略的研究尚属新兴领域。不同的文本类型决定了翻译补偿的不同策略,文章结合文本类型理论,以广告翻译为例,论述呼唤型文本的翻译补偿的几种常用方法：转换法、强化法、归化法和替代法。

本文运用功能翻译理论和纽马克的文本类型理论对公示语的文本类型进行分析,认为公示语主要可以分为具有指称功能或信息功能的公示语,具有表情功能的公示语,具有诉求功能或呼唤功能的公示语。本文还从语用语言等效与社交语用等效探讨了公示语翻译的语用翻译策略。

理工科博士生交际策略使用现状的调查分析

交际策略指的是外语学习者为达到交际目的而用来克服外语口语交际中遇到的表达困难的一系列方法,其研究是学习者策略研究的一个重要分支,是了解学习者语言使用过程的途径之一,本文以对原化中理工大学９８级７７名博士生进行的问卷调查结果为依据,分析了该学习者群体在英语口语交际中使用交际策略的基本现状,并探讨了该现状所反映的问题及其对英语教学的启示。     

A latent class analysis of acculturation and depressive symptoms among Latino immigrants: Examining the role of social support

Drawing upon Berry’s (1980) bi-dimensional model of acculturation and using data from a community-based sample of adults in Miami-Dade, Florida, the current investigation compared various immigrant acculturation profiles in their levels of depressive symptoms and assessed the mediating role of social support in explaining mental health differences across these acculturation profiles. Latent class analysis specified separated, partial separated, bicultural and marginal profiles of acculturation among Latino immigrants. Notably, our findings identified a small, albeit significant, marginal class among Latino immigrants, and both bivariate and multivariate findings demonstrated that those in marginal class reported the poorest mental health. Our findings further revealed that the observed mental health disadvantage among the marginal class relative to other immigrants was due to their disadvantage in family support . Overall, this investigation further underscores the importance of family support as an element of immigrant acculturation experience and mental health. From a policy perspective, social support, specifically family support, is critical for immigrant mental health, and a lack of family support may increase the risk for developing a marginal experience and mental health problems among a growing population of Latino immigrants in the United States.
