Cross-Cultural Adaptation of Hispanic Youth: A Study of Communication Patterns,Functional Fitness,and Psychological Health

This study examined the role of communication in the adaptation of Hispanic youth to the dominant cultural values and practices embodied in US American public schools. Seven hypotheses predicted positive interrelationships among four theoretical constructs identified in Y. Y. Kim's integrative theory of communication and cross-cultural adaptation: host communication competence, host interpersonal communication, psychological health, and functional fitness. Structured, closed-ended questions were administered in face-to-face interviews with 112 Hispanic adolescents in the upper Midwestern United States. Structural equation modeling results supported all seven hypotheses, indicating Hispanic youth with greater host communication competence were more actively engaged in host interpersonal communication and enjoyed greater psychological health and functional fitness with respect to US public schools and the larger US society.     

喀什地区初中汉语教师适应汉语新课程情况研究

通过对喀什地区初中汉语教师的专门调查,我们发现：由于汉语新课程培训未能起到真正的指导作用及受自身汉语专业水平的限制,许多初中汉语教师在适应汉语新课程的过程中表现出一系列问题。针对这些问题及成因,我们认为必须加大汉语师资培训力度,夯实培训效用;同时立足本校实际,努力开发校本教研。     

严重创伤骨折患者角色适应不良的护理对策

目的：探讨严重创伤骨折患者角色适应不良的护理对策。方法：研究87例严重创伤骨折患者角色适应不良的护理对策。结果：69例患者角色适应能力很好,积极配合治疗。14例患者角色适应能力较好,情绪稳定,愿意配合治疗。4例患者角色适应能力差,对治疗和前途缺乏信心。结论：制定有效的护理干预措施可以为患者角色适应提供了良好的支持。     

浅谈训练适应的自组织特征

文章采用文献研究法,从自组织的角度对训练适应进行分析,得出:运动训练是采用施加运动负荷等方法,主动打破机体内环境的相对平衡,向较高机能水平转化,产生适应性结构的过程。机体对运动训练刺激产生适应性反应的过程,就是机体内各系统、各器官、各组织之间相互作用,通过协同与竞争,自主地组织化、有序化的过程。     

Narrative of a cross-cultural language teaching experience: Conflicts between theory and practice

China's economic performance over the past few decades has put China in a position where it now accounts for one-third of global economic growth, twice as much as America. The large-scale growth of China's economy has attracted attentionfrom businesses and investors worldwide [Morrison (2006). China’s economic conditions. Congressional Research Service: The Library of Congress]. With the continuing growth of China's economy, more and more people from all over the world are learning Chinese in order to conduct business and access China's huge markets. Correspondingly, an increase in the demand for Chinese speakers is being matched by an increase in available Chinese language teaching jobs globally. This has led many Chinese native speakers to consider teaching Chinese as a second language either in China or overseas.This study is a narrative inquiry into the transformation of thinking about language education, based on the author's experience of teaching Chinese while pursuing a doctorate program at a major university in the United States. The data used in this study are qualitative in nature, consisting of self-observations and journal writing. Narrative inquiry serves as a conceptual framework to this study and was adopted as a tool for data analysis. The analysis focused on how the author, as a teaching assistant from Taiwan, dealt with issues of teaching Chinese as a second language and how he drew on pedagogical theories and methodologies.The author's experience with students in the East Asian Language and Culture Department with their different assumptions and motivations highlighted the importance of teaching strategies and pedagogies in class. Elements like cultural diversity and learning styles are also discussed in this paper.     

Connected and culturally embedded beliefs: Chinese and US teachers talk about how their students best learn mathematics

This study compares US and Chinese elementary mathematics teachers' beliefs about how students learn mathematics. Interviews with teachers in each country revealed that Chinese and US teachers have distinct ways of thinking about how mathematics should be taught and how students learn. Many Chinese teachers talked about developing students’ interest in mathematics and relating the content of mathematics lessons to real-life situations. The US teachers talked about students' learning styles and using hands-on approaches to learning mathematics. Furthermore, these beliefs may be widespread and persistent within each country because the set of ideas among teachers appear to be internally consistent. Implications for teacher change and the study of teachers' beliefs are discussed.
