The mental health and wellbeing of Unaccompanied Refugee Minors (URMs)

BackgroundToday, almost half of all refugees worldwide are children and adolescents, nearly a quarter of whom arrive in Europe as Unaccompanied Refugee Minors (URM). Many URMs have experienced the cumulative stress of being exposed both to the adverse environmental conditions which drive forced migration, and to the traumatic experience of displacement and resettlement. These experiences, coupled with other developmental stressors, may impede their overall development and increase their likelihood of mental health problems. Despite the evident vulnerability of URMs, much controversy currently surrounds the legitimacy of their arrival in host countries and their mental health is given little consideration.ObjectiveThis review synthesises and examines the limited published literature on the impact of traumatic refugee experiences on the mental health and development of URMs.MethodsAcademic databases and other sources were searched using key terms relating to URMs and mental health.ResultsThe findings confirm in large part that being a URM negatively influences mental health development, and that adolescence and being female are particular indicators of increased risk of psychiatric disorders. However, cultural differences in measurement and assessment of mental health are important confounding factors.ConclusionsThe current literature on youth in transit consistently paints a picture of how experiences URMs face can place a great burden on their mental health - clearly depicting an urgent need to consider their mental health within the current climate. The pressing need for improved care based on best practice is discussed.     

Theoretical and methodological implications of associations between executive function and mathematics in early childhood

Despite agreement about the importance of executive function (EF) for children’s early math achievement, its treatment in correlational studies reflects a lack of agreement about the theoretical connection between the two. It remains unclear whether the association between EF and math operates through a latent EF construct or specific EF components. Specifying the correct measurement model has important theoretical implications for the predicted effects of EF interventions on children’s math achievement. In the current study, we tested whether associations between EF and math operate via a latent EF factor, or via specific EF components using data from a large, nationally representative sample. We then replicated these same analyses with a meta-analytic database drawn from ten studies that collected measures of children’s EF and math achievement. Our results lend support to explanations that a single EF factor accounts for most of the EF component-specific associations with math achievement. We discuss theoretical and methodological implications of these findings for future work.

荷兰大学教师发展研究轨迹探析

20世纪60年代以来,荷兰的大学教师发展研究顺应了其教师教育研究的发展,走过了一条从稚嫩到相对成熟的发展之路,至今仍呈现出国际化水平不断提升的良好发展态势。本文对荷兰教师教育研究的历程作简要的回顾,在此基础上,以荷兰跨校教育研究中心和莱顿大学教师教育研究院为例,具体分析该国以研究促发展的大学教师发展研究的内容与特点。     

面向用户需求分析的产品评论用例提取研究

[目的/意义]实现海量产品评论数据的快速分析,帮助产品设计人员高效地获取用户需求,在新产品设计的决策中提供参考。[方法/过程]在特征提取和情感分析的基础上,构造了包括"词+词性+词干+位置+依存关系"等节点特征的条件随机场模型,按照"产品特征、谁、在何种情境下、遇到了什么问题"4个要素,以描述手机屏幕和电池的负面评论为例,从产品评论中提取用例。[结果/结论]模型评估和实证研究表明,所构造的模型可以有效地从评论文本中识别产品特征、使用主体、使用情景和遇到的问题,从而快速构造用例,获取用户需求。     

IT engagement as a blessing and a curse? Examining its antecedents and outcomes in organizations

Information technology (IT) engagement is defined as a need to spend more time using IT. Practice-based examples show that IT engagement can have adverse effects in organizations. Although users can potentially get more work done through IT engagement, observations show that the users might jeopardize their well-being and hamper their work performance. We aimed to investigate this complexity in the research on IT engagement by examining its potential antecedents and outcomes in organizations. Considering the potentially mixed outcomes, we developed a model to examine the effects of IT engagement on personal productivity and strain. We also aimed to explain the antecedents of IT engagement by drawing on the collective expectations for IT use. In particular, we examined the extent to which normative pressure on IT use drives users’ information load and IT engagement. Finally, we sought to understand whether users’ attempts to avert dependency on IT use reduced their IT engagement. Several hypotheses were developed and tested with survey data of 1091 organizational IT users. The findings help explain the role of normative pressure as a key driver of IT engagement and validate the positive and negative outcomes of IT engagement in organizations.     

If you Build it,They Won’t Come: What Motivates Employees to Create and Share Tagged Content: A Theoretical Model and Empirical Validation

The purpose of this paper is to investigate factors influencing employees’ knowledge-sharing behavior on social tagging supported systems. Using the strong theoretical background of the well-known technology acceptance model (TAM), this paper proposes and empirically validates a model that fits the social and technical nature of social tagging tools within the public sector. The analyses in this paper were based on data collected from a large survey of more than 480 respondents working for two public organizations in the United States. The findings demonstrate a significant impact of the role of social presence in encouraging employees to create and share content. Further, there is a strong relationship between the benefits employees receive from using tagging tools and their creation and sharing of tagged content. Specifically, the following factors showed a significant impact on employees’ creation and sharing behavior, specifically their attitudes towards and intentions to create and share tags: perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, social presence, and pro-sharing norms. For researchers, the paper offers an opportunity to further study knowledge-sharing behavior regarding social media technologies. The findings should motivate practitioners to inject these tools with a social aspect so that employees are encouraged to share content.     

全球及中国可持续发展目标进展与挑战

实现17项联合国可持续发展目标（SDGs）是世界各国在2016—2030年的重要任务,但近期评估显示有半数目标进展停滞甚至倒退,并且到2030年世界各国可能无法实现大多数目标。文章在回顾全球及中国实现17项SDGs进展的基础上,总结了影响SDGs实现的5项主要挑战,包括：数据缺失和监测能力不足,不同SDGs间相互联系的高度复杂性,区域差异和负外部性影响,科学、政策和社会联系不足,以及全球变化对SDGs实现的不确定性影响。同时,文章从加强政策一致性、聚焦优先目标、强化基础理论研究、提升数据获取能力4个方面提出了加快中国实现SDGs的对策建议。     

交叉双尖窄状多重温室与太阳能热利用

将日光温室进一步改造为内部成交叉双尖窄状的多重温室,使尖窄状内温度更高,从而使置于尖窄状内的太阳能集热器的热效率更高,达90%左右,并将这种特殊结构的温室安装在建筑物窗户外面下端的墙壁上,而热水箱则放于室内,并用软管与集热器相连通,就构成一种窗户型太阳能热利用装置.从而"将多重温室太阳能与建筑相结合,并且使用方式从房顶转向窗户",是一条新的技术路线.
