Action sports athletes as entrepreneurs: Female professional wakeboarders,sponsorship, and branding

This teaching case explores the sport of wakeboarding to examine how its female practitioners need to become entrepreneurial in order to make a living from the sport. Students ponder the financial pressures of becoming a professional female wakeboarder, and how to sustain momentum once one turns professional. The significance and inter-relationship of sponsorship and self-branding/promotion figure prominently. Costs of competing are high in the best of circumstances, and nearly insurmountable without corporate backing. Obtaining such support requires a healthy degree of marketing oneself. The female riders offer a number of anecdotes and recollections providing salience to issues concerning sustainability and gender inequity. Male riders may earn up to four times more on tour than female riders and there is pressure to adapt to the “boys’ club” to advance one's career. Earning a living through involvement in wakeboarding is difficult for women. Models of entrepreneurism are provided to guide student discussion in developing strategies to overcome issues for female wakeboarders making the sport financially attractive for female competitors.

The dynamics of connecting universities,non-governmental organizations and community members by means of academic projects directed at people in need

In this article we discuss an action research experience that took place from 2002 to 2015. We analyze the inception and progress of several project-based learning-centered academic courses that were aimed at developing the project management skills of graduate and undergraduate students. The experience involved approximately 1800 students from two universities and 40 community partners. The students developed real-life projects on behalf of institutions and non-governmental organizations located in the area that help people in need; we refer to these agencies as ‘community partners.’ We analyze the development of the course from a systemic perspective, making use of causal loop diagrams in order to understand the main driving dynamics. We discuss the results achieved by these projects and the benefits brought to the community partners. We also present testimony from the community partners themselves. We conclude by presenting the lessons we learned over the years we have been running this course.     

Action learning as an element within an assessed and supported year in employment for newly qualified social workers: a three-role perspective

The assessed and supported year in employment (ASYE) is employer-led and provides a programme to support and assess newly qualified social workers (NQSWs) working with children and families and adults during their first year of employment. Action learning was brought into Cambridgeshire County Councils ASYE programme as a 12-month pilot from October 2015 to September 2016, with the view of providing an opportunity for the 55–60 NQSWs to develop critical thinking, problem-solving and leadership skills. This paper gives an account of the journey from the perspective of the roles of the accoucheur and action learning lead, ASYE Programme Lead and Evaluator and identifies key learning points. In writing this paper, the authors acknowledge the contribution of their colleague facilitators and the NQSWs who participated in action learning sets.     

新媒介生态下的香港报业转型研究

在互联网引发的新媒介生态下,香港报业呈现出两种转型模式:一是以星岛新闻集团为代表的免费内容与规模效益模式:免费报通过对收费报新闻的再加工,降低采编成本,实现规模效益。二是以壹传媒有限公司为代表的产品深加工与免费增值模式:大部分新闻产品实行免费以增加人气,少部分深加工的新媒体内容微收费,以实现盈利。香港报业转型中遭遇的最根本的困境在于,高成本生产的新媒体产品难以盈利。免费成为新媒介生态下唯一的内容生存之道。     

Teacher feedback,disciplinary climate,student self-concept,and reading achievement:A multilevel moderated mediation model

Research has confirmed the importance of teacher feedback on student learning. The mechanism of how they are related, however, is not clear enough. In this study, we explored this relation with 60,501 fifteen-year-old students from collectivistic and individualistic cultures in PISA 2018. Importantly, we examined the possible mediating role of reading self-concept and the moderating role of disciplinary climate at both student level and school level in multi-level structural equation models (MSEM). Results demonstrated that the association between teacher feedback and reading achievement was significantly mediated via reading self-concept at student level across cultures, and this indirect effect was significant irrespective of the disciplinary climate level. Moreover, results showed that a positive disciplinary climate would facilitate the building of students’ reading self-concept which subsequently would enhance their reading achievement at school level. This study has important theoretical, practical, cross-cultural, and methodological implications for teacher feedback research and student learning.     

档案文献与图书馆文献术语的标准化——“档案文献”“图书馆文献”规范性之比较

对档案文献、图书馆文献的规范性梳理发现,两者的规范性差异主要体现在术语在标准规范的制定、术语在本学科和其他学科标准规范中的使用等方面。同时,档案与图书馆术语的标准化是档案文献研究与图书馆文献研究共同的当补之缺。     

论将编辑出版学列入《授予博士、硕士学位和培养研究生专业目录》的必要性和迫切性

编辑出版学独立的学科属性滋生着它特有的学科内涵.我国编辑出版专业研究生教育目前存在的首要问题是学科定位不明确,这导致编辑出版专业的学科归属混乱、名称繁杂.将编辑出版学列入<授予博士、硕士学位和培养研究生专业目录>是解决这一问题的根本手段,也是培养高素质编辑出版人才的迫切需要.     

有机酸与U(VI)络合作用研究实验

将已知浓度的标准铀溶液加入到一定浓度的有机酸溶液中进行混合,经过一定时间的振荡反应后,测定混合溶液中的铀浓度,以确定有机酸对六价铀的络合能力。实验研究数据看出,测定铀浓度与已知铀浓度误差较小,因此可以表明常温中性条件下,有机酸与六价铀能够发生反应,有机酸对六价铀有着较强的络合能力。
