This conceptual paper explores three areas of research collaboration: (a) effectively harnessing differences, (b) setting defensible boundaries and (c) gaining legitimate authorization. The focus is on their potential lessons for individuals leading and managing research collaborations, evaluation of research partnerships and areas for further investigation. Examples from three partnerships - building the atomic bomb, the Human Genome Project and the World Commission on Dams - are used to highlight key elements of the ideas presented. The paper provides a framework for systematically thinking about integration of different perspectives and other elements essential to any particular collaboration. It also sketches out ideas for (1) managing differences which may destroy partnerships, (2) deciding what the collaboration should encompass, (3) understanding and accommodating forces which may distort what the collaboration is able to achieve, and (4) enlisting necessary supporters while preserving research independence.  相似文献

The motivation for this work has been to provide relevant information to the right situation for mobile phone users. We have iteratively developed applications for travellers and tourists to provide a general travel guide with local tourist information. This used a combination of wireless tag technology and information from content service providers. Classical test theory offers theoretically derived reliability measures such as Cronbach’s alpha, which can be applied to measure the reliability of a set of Information Retrieval test results. The theory also supports item analysis, which identifies queries that are hampering the test’s reliability, and which may be candidates for refinement or removal. A generalization of Classical Test Theory, called Generalizability Theory, provides an even richer set of tools. It allows us to estimate the reliability of a test as a function of the number of queries, assessors (relevance judges), and other aspects of the test’s design. One novel aspect of Generalizability Theory is that it allows this estimation of reliability even before the test collection exists, based purely on the numbers of queries and assessors that it will contain. These calculations can help test designers in advance, by allowing them to compare the reliability of test designs with various numbers of queries and relevance assessors, and to spend their limited budgets on a design that maximizes reliability. Empirical analysis shows that in cases for which our data is representative, having more queries is more helpful for reliability than having more assessors. It also suggests that reliability may be improved with a per-document performance measure, as opposed to a document-set based performance measure, where appropriate. The theory also clarifies the implicit debate in IR literature regarding the nature of error in relevance judgments.  相似文献

针对电梯群控系统的特点,设计出一种更适合的梯群控制的遗传算法.本算法中采用了整数编码和可进行种群竞争的双种群机制,设计了以候梯时间、乘梯时间、系统能耗为群控目标的多目标适应度函数.并在选择操作中引入个体最优选择策略,在交叉操作中构造了与遗传代的数目、预交叉个体本身特点相结合的交叉方式,在变异操作中应用了两点对换和位点变异相结合的变异方法,并设计了从最优解集合中选择最优解的评价函数.经过模拟仿真,运行实验结果表明了此方案的可行性和优越性.  相似文献

以流域为单元,评价生态系统健康状况,将为流域的规划、管理和保护以及流域综合治理提供决策依据。总结了国内外关于流域生态系统健康评价的方法,对流域生态系统健康评价体系的理论基础、基本框架、指标选择、指标的评价函数、权重分配、体系建构步骤等关键性问题进行了研究。以“自然条件限制因子-流域生态健康指示因子-人类活动影响因子”评价体系为基础,选择了水质、植被、水土保持、生物多样性、湿地、土地利用、人口、点源污染、面源污染、水资源开发利用率、河流自然化、人均GDP、土壤、水文和生物第一性潜在生产率等20项指标,构建每个评价指标的评价函数,利用层次分析法对滦河山区流域和北四河平原流域进行生态系统健康评价。综合评价结果表明,滦河山区流域和北四河平原流域生态系统健康得分为76和46,年降雨量、点源污染、面源污染、水资源开发利用率是我国北方半湿润/半干旱地带小流域生态系统健康状况的主要控制因子。  相似文献

Online education and computer‐assisted instruction (CAI) have existed for years, but few general tools exist to help instructors create and evaluate lessons. Are these tools sufficient? Specifically, what elements do instructors want to see in online testing tools? This study asked instructors from various disciplines to identify and evaluate the importance of several features that they want to see in testing tools. Along with standard elements, the respondents evaluated the importance of more advanced elements including adaptive responses and programmability, which would be used to add responsiveness and intelligence to provide more tailored questions and assistance. A latent variable analysis of the detailed model was performed and the results reveal that several advanced features not commonly available today would be useful to many instructors—particularly to handle higher level courses. Instructors teaching lower level courses tended to emphasize basic testing and simple grading features. The features were grouped into nine categories: question formats, feedback, programmability, grading, question bank, page display capabilities, platform, data analysis, and security. The results of the study examine the relative importance of the categories as well as the detail items within each category.  相似文献
