On using spheres of meaning to define and dignify the IS discipline

The question, “Is information systems a real discipline?” has taxed IS scholars for over 20 years, and they debate its identity at length. Many other disciplines are facing similar crises. This article suggests a new approach, which views disciplines in terms of what is meaningful to those who work within them. Making use of the philosophical notion of ‘spheres of meaning’, and one well-thought-out suite of such spheres, the core contribution of the IS discipline may be understood, giving it confidence among its neighbours, so as to maintain dialogue with them. Questions about identity are replaced by questions about dignity, destiny and responsibility, and strategic suggestions are offered.

CPI、PPI、PMI对经济发展影响的实证研究--基于SVAR模型的分析

随着社会主义市场经济和经济全球化进程的深入发展,市场竞争日益激烈,影响经济发展的因素也日渐繁多。这一变化固然给国家经济发展带来了更多的机遇,但也增加了经济增长预测的难度。由此,及时准确地把握市场经济走向,了解经济运行态势显得尤为重要。将价格指数CPI、PPI与采购经理指数PMI相结合,且用月度的工业增加值来代替季度的GDP指标,运用结构向量自回归（SVAR）模型来建立一个新的经济增长预测模型。实证结果表明,综合考虑了CPI、PPI、PMI三个指标的新模型,具有更好的拟合效果和预测效果。     

机读目录中的责任者

当我们名义上取消了“主要款目”后,仍在机读目录中留下它的尾巴,使编目员对责任者名义上的平等地位迷惑不解。在机读目录中并无“款目”,更无“主要款目”、“附加款目”,但却有责任不同的知识责任块。用“实体－关系”概念模型,我们可以比较客观地观察编目工作的实体及其相互关系,以及这种关系对用户需求的映射。在概念模型中,我们看到了“责任者”实体与“著作”实体之间的“责任”关系,认识到揭示这种关系,反映其性质与主次相对于用户需求的必要性。无论是传统的MARC还是新兴的元数据、如果需要发挥目录的应有功能,就不能无视具备这些功能的种种手段,不管这些手段我们称作“主要款目”、“主要知识责任”,还是什么别的名称。     

Fans as a source of extended innovation capabilities: A case study of Xiaomi Technology

In the digital era, many companies are developing extended capabilities with external stakeholders. Fans are an important, but often untapped, source of extended capabilities, especially innovation capabilities. Our study intends to fill that gap by examining how companies develop extended innovation capabilities with fans. Although extant studies have examined user-based innovation, their findings may not be readily applicable to fan-based innovation because fans are more committed and have more demanding needs than regular users. We conducted a case study of Xiaomi Technology, a leading smartphone manufacturer, which grew rapidly by cultivating a group of motivated fans and soliciting their opinions. Our case analysis uncovers three important lessons that can help companies leverage fans to build extended innovation capabilities: 1) companies can build an online community to foster communal relationships with fans; 2) companies can assign different types of fans different roles; and 3) companies can organize internal operations around fans.     

The role of adoptive parents’ intergroup contact in fostering the well-being of adoptees: The “extended intragroup contact effect”

The present study examines the effects of a new cultural socialization strategy on the well-being of transracially adopted adolescents and emerging adults. Specifically, we propose a novel strategy focused on the role of adoptive parents’ positive contact with members of their children’s ethnic group of origin, which we labelled “extended intragroup contact.” The hypothesis was that observing ingroup members (adoptive parents, belonging to the family ingroup) engaging in contact with another ingroup (members of children’s original ethnic group) would be associated with adoptees’ meaning in life and, in turn, with well-being. A self-report questionnaire was administered to 120 families, each composed of transracial adoptees (all born in Latin American countries) and their adoptive parents. The results were generally supportive of predictions, showing that knowing of positive interactions between members of two different ingroups (family ingroup and ethnic ingroup) had beneficial effects for the well-being of transracial adoptees. The theoretical and practical implications of findings are discussed, focusing on the importance of investigating extended intragroup contact as a strategy for improving the well-being of disadvantaged group members.
