Carnivals, the Carnivalesque, The Magic Puddin', and David Almond's Wild Girl, Wild Boy: Toward a Theorizing of Children's Plays

This article seeks to extend current children's literature criticism into children's plays and children's theatre. The article uses Norman Lindsay's The Magic Pudding as a prose introduction to an idea of a theatrical carnivalesque. Building on the practical experience of being involved in a large program of original drama for children, written and produced within the university context, it develops a theory of plays-as-the-performance-of-texts, relating this to the current debate on performance and performativity. It adopts the idea of performativity as performative belonging and identifies some distinguishing characteristics of children's plays. Applying some of these ideas to David Almond's Wild Girl, Wild Boy, it notes the idea of moral psychic reorganisation as part of the essence of carnival.

欣顿生态译诗的翻译陌生化性

二战以来,美国对中国古典诗词的译介逐渐体现出生态译诗的翻译诗学特征。欣顿作为其中重要的代表性翻译家,对山水诗的生态译诗表现出鲜明的翻译陌生化性。其翻译运用了形式模拟译诗体与文化厚译,实现了翻译充分性,再现了山水诗的独特诗歌形式,阐发了道禅哲学意境下的荒野宇宙观,体现了他对山水文化精神本真性的追求。我们认为,欣顿译诗独树一帜,产生了翻译审美的新奇性,揭示了山水诗的当代世界文学性与生态诗学价值。

该文从狄更斯《大卫·科波菲尔》中人物的性格特征分析入手 ,比较分析了漫画人物和扁形人物的不同概念和特点 ,认为狄更斯在《大卫·科波菲尔》中用夸张、变形和反复等手法 ,塑造的是大量的漫画人物。这些人物的性格是复杂的、发展的 ,他们是幽默的或讽刺的喜剧人物 ,是对真善美的歌颂、对假恶丑的鞭挞 ,具有强烈的喜剧效果     

Philpapers Breaks New Ground for Discipline Based Repositories

This is the first in a series of columns intended to report on the progress of the Open Access (OA) movement in scholarly communication, chart the changes OA brings to the methods libraries and library users employ to acquire information, and estimate the value of OA materials for undergraduate library collections. At this point, it is not clear how long commercially published academic journals will be a sine qua non for college libraries. However, it is already obvious that undergraduate instruction can benefit from the scholarship available through Open Access at the same time that our libraries need the budget relief such resources offer. Librarians who work with undergraduates have very good reasons to stay current with the range and quality of OA content as well as with the best means of providing access to that body of scholarship. In addition, faculty teaching undergraduates depend upon librarians to keep them informed about changes in the information environment. With that in mind, “Out in the Open” is an attempt to introduce readers to the people, resources, and trends identified with the rise of Open Access.

杰罗姆·戴维·塞林格的小说致力于探索现代社会的特征和现代人类的真实生存境况;从不同的角度揭示出了个人生存窘境和个体悲剧命运的必然性。将作品的阐释和人类的生存思考融为一体,应用查尔斯.泰勒的自我理论,来解读塞林格的成名作《麦田里的守望者》以及对人类道德信仰危机的焦虑和隐忧;分析主人翁霍尔顿的道德自我的组成因素和内在矛盾以及道德自我的分裂以何种方式影响了霍尔顿的人生选择,以至于进一步导致了他的生命悲剧。
