Good Models of Reference Service Transactions: Applying Quantitative Concepts to Generate Nine Characteristic Attributes of Soundness

The role of mental or formal models in most quantitative research is unquestioned and taken for granted, yet reference researchers have focused little attention on identifying the attributes of sound (i.e., good) models for understanding the reference transaction. The goal of this article is to promote the development of better models for understanding reference service. Based on a case study of reference service presented herein, sound models appear to be those that are clear and simple, comprehensive, convincing, insightful, parsimonious, provocative, well structured, testable, and understandable. In addition, this article identifies the spectrum of undesirable attributes—ambiguity, confusion, or needless complication.     

关联数据发布流程与关键问题研究——以科技文献、科学数据发布为例

本文结合中国科学引文数据库和中国生态系统研究网络通量数据的关联数据发布,以关联数据的发布技术框架为研究对象,采取实例阐释的方法,提出了关联数据发布过程中可参考的标准化流程,并详细分析了其中的关键问题.研究表明,关联数据发布流程可以分解成数据建模、实体命名、实体RDF化、实体关联化、实体发布、开放查询六个关键步骤,发布过程中需要考虑到多语种问题、值词表的发布、RDF词表的发布等关键问题.关于利用D2R Server发布数据,本文建议:不要采用空白节点;尽量做好关系型数据库的前期设计;指定非文本属性的数据类型;适当进行实体表的拆分与合并.     

ILLiad: Customer-Focused Interlibrary Loan Automation

ABSTRACT

ILLiad is an interlibrary loan borrowing system designed and implemented in the University Libraries at Virginia Tech. ILLiad models the ILL borrowing process so as to track the status of an ILL request as it is processed, either by the staff or by software. This process approach to automating interlibrary loan is leading to fundamental improvements in ILL management and service. The process approach allows continued expansion and modification of the system, including the addition of electronic delivery of articles. The process approach results in substantial improvements in customer service by allowing customers to intervene directly in the borrowing process without staff assistance.     

Stress Relief: Help for the Technophobic Patron from the Reference Desk

Summary

Although much has been written on technophobia and how it can be treated, little has been published on how the reference librarian can help. Limiting the time spent introducing new technologies, speaking without using computer jargon, offering instruction through different learning styles, and preparing patrons to deal with the problems they encounter are a few of the strategies the reference librarian can do to help patrons deal with their fear of computers. This article examines and defines technophobia, offers short-term strategies that reference staff can use to alleviate the anxiety of their technophobic patrons, and finally touches upon long-term solutions and changes that can be made within the library environment itself.     

Measuring the Quality of Contributions of Saudi Authors to LIS Journals Using Journal Impact Factor (JIF), SCImago Journal Rank (SJR), and Google Scholar Metrics (GSM)

This research study evaluates the quality of articles published by Saudi and expatriate authors in foreign Library and Information Science (LIS) journals using three popular metrics for ranking journals—Journal Impact Factor (JIF), SCImago Journal Rank (SJR), and Google Scholar Metrics (GSM). The reason for using multiple metrics is to see how closely or differently journals are ranked by the three different methods of citation analysis. However, the 2012 JIF list of journals is too small, almost half the size of the SJR and GSM lists, which inhibited one-to-one comparison among the impact factors of the thirty-six journals selected by Saudi authors for publishing articles. Only seventeen journals were found common to all the three lists, limiting the usefulness of the data. A basic problem is that Saudi LIS authors generally lack the level of competency in the English language required to achieve publication in the most prominent LIS journals. The study will have implications for authors, directors, and deans of all types of academic libraries; chairmen and deans of library schools; and the Saudi Library Association. Hopefully these entities will take necessary steps to prepare and motivate both academics and practicing librarians to improve the quality of their research and publications and thus get published in higher ranked journals.     

基于GSM模块的水文测报系统的设计与实现

历年来,暴雨洪灾、风潮频频发生,给国民经济和人民生命财产带来巨大威胁。因此,水文实时测报成为预防灾难的重要手段之一,本文设计的水文测报系统是基于增强型51单片机控制GSM模块向主机发送雨量、水位、进库容量或入库容量等信息。通过连接翻斗式雨量传感器反复的试验,证明该系统的实时性强、可靠性高,有利于进行应用推广和科学管理。

我国的招商引资策略,使得外资企业不断增加.透过一些机制和渠道,外商直接投资的技术溢出效应成为当地企业先进生产技术和管理经验的重要来源,有助于企业实现产业升级和提高自主创新能力.然而,当前我国存在着很多限制技术溢出效应的主客观因素.因此,应采取必要措施,减轻或者消除这些抑制因素,扩大外商直接投资的技术溢出效应,提高本国企业的自主创新能力.     

创新投入强度与企业规模——基于分位数回归方法

以上海市大中型工业企业为研究对象,运用分位数回归方法,从微观层面围绕“熊彼特假说”进行实证研究。结果表明：大型企业较之中型企业,创新经费支出强度普遍更高,且随分位点的上升而优势逐渐增大;企业规模对于大中型企业,影响不同,即中型企业在高分位点处出现了较不显著的“倒U”型关系,而大型企业在中低分位点处出现了较为显著的“U”型关系。此外,人均工资的上涨,对创新支出强度不同的企业,会产生不同的影响,而企业上期利润率对企业本期创新支出强度则并未有显著影响。     

基于C#的GSM短信平台系统设计
