Teachers’ Perspectives on Promoting Reading and Writing for Pupils with Various Linguistic Backgrounds in Grade 1 of Primary School

ABSTRACT

The aim of this study is to gain a deeper understanding of teachers’ perspectives on promoting reading and writing for pupils with various linguistic backgrounds in grade 1. Focus group interviews were conducted with 17 teachers who work in preschool classes and in grade 1. The teachers’ perspectives on reading and writing can be characterised as balanced, in the sense that the teachers describe how they work with both the technical and the learning-oriented dimension. The number of different languages spoken in their classes is regarded in a positive manner, but it also leads to major challenges, such as not having enough time for all of the pupils and not having sufficient knowledge of multilingualism.     

Grade repetition in Honduran primary schools

This paper looks at several dimensions of the grade failure issue in Honduras using a unique data set compiled by the UMCE evaluation project in 1998 and 1999. The analytical framework incorporates econometric analysis of standardized tests and teacher pass/fail decisions for roughly 13,000 second and fourth grade students. The results show that first time grade repetition, as well as repeating previous grades, is associated with lower marginal achievement on the UMCE exams, although the same is not true for students who are repeating the second or third time. The strongest predictor of grade failure is previous repetition, despite the inclusion of controls for achievement and attendance. The implications of this apparently strong stigma effect associated with grade repetition are discussed, as well as other policy issues related to grade repetition in developing countries.

首先对FRAP试件进行了试验研究,根据试验现象分析了FRAP梁的破坏机理,在破坏机理分析的基础上提出了FRAP正截面破坏的两种形式:适筋破坏和超筋破坏。提出了判断适筋和超筋的界限值,分别给出了两种破坏形式的正截面承载力计算公式。最后以试验构件作为算例,试验与理论结果吻合良好。

预期记忆是与追溯记忆相对的一类独特记忆，即当没有直接的外部提示时，在未来特定条件下从事先前计划好的活动的记忆，可以是习惯性的或情节性的、单活动的或双活动的、时间性的或事件性的。解释预期记忆老化的理论主要有自启层次理论、任务类型理论和加工关系理论。研究预期记忆，有助于全面认识人类的记忆，特别是记忆老化的机制，有助于切实提高个体应对生活的适应能力。

Decisional procrastination correlates: personality traits, self-esteem or perception of cognitive failure?

The aim of the present study is to examine a number of decisional procrastination correlates. A sample of 258 subjects attending secondary school were administered the Melbourne Decision Making Questionnaire, Cognitive Failures Questionnaire, Self-Esteem Scale, Big Five Questionnaire and Five Factors Adjective Short Test. The data were subjected to correlation and multiple regression. Decisional procrastination is best explained by the Cognitive Failures Questionnaire. The results enable a further analysis in the field of decisional procrastination.
