The Original Creative Principle

The following imaginary interview is linked to an hour long drawing workshop carried out during the 2002 NSEAD Annual Conference ‘Creativity in Art & Design Education’. The intention was to get closer to the experience by raising questions. I hope those who participated may recognise it as, in some way, connected to their experience. The American Artist, Robert Motherwell maintained an interest in psychic automatism throughout his life. Although he remained suspicious of its mystical connotations [1] fundamental principles appeared to inform his working methods. Motherwell identified a number of key issues which serve to define its potential in the origination and development of paintings and drawings. He saw the process as “...very little a question of the unconscious, but much more a plastic weapon with which to invent new forms.”[2] Motherwell’s analysis and, to some extent defence, of the process is as follows: 1. It cuts through any a priori influences — it is not a style 2. It is entirely personal 3. It is, by definition, original 4. It can be modified stylistically and in subject matter at any point during the process. The proposed drawing workshop seeks to explore Motherwell’s approach and by definition, exposes a related and learning and teaching strategy. The process serves as a catalyst for creative thinking, exploiting analogy, simile and metaphor in the generation of artistic and personally defined contexts or narratives.

Paraprofessional home visitors’ perspectives on addressing poor mental health,substance abuse,and domestic violence: A qualitative study

This research was conducted to understand paraprofessional home visitors’ perceptions of their training in addressing poor mental health, substance abuse, and domestic violence, and their actions in working with families in addressing these issues. Five focus groups were conducted with a total of 28 paraprofessional home visitors. Three main themes emerged from qualitative analysis. Home visitors experienced tension between addressing families’ more pressing needs such as housing or utilities and addressing poor mental health, substance abuse, and domestic violence. Home visitors felt that they received extensive training in these risk areas, but that this training focused heavily on knowledge acquisition rather than skill development. Home visitors also desired more guidance in addressing families’ poor mental health, substance abuse, and domestic violence concerns—namely, more clarity on the extent to which they should address these issues during visits and more and varied supervision. Home visitors need more training on how to initiate conversations about mental health, substance abuse, and domestic violence, including how to transition conversations from other client needs. Home visiting programs must clarify home visitors’ roles in addressing clients’ poor mental health, substance abuse, and domestic violence and provide additional and varied supervision to home visitors.

一种基于ZigBee无线传感器网络的智能家居系统设计

本文设计了一种基于ZigBee无线传感器网络的智能家居系统,采集各种关乎安全的环境因子,如温度、煤气、烟雾等,并通过红外探测技术对非法入侵进行检测,构建了完整的硬件数据采集平台。基于ZigBee协议组建无线通信网络,终端节点的CC2530单片机采集数据,并进行处理分析后将数据发送到远端基站,基站接收传感器节点发来的数据通过串口通信发送给上位机,上位机对数据进行解析和处理,实时显示刷新监测值,并准确对异常情况（入侵、火灾、煤气泄漏等）进行报警。本系统安全稳定,无须考虑布线,节能,灵活方便,而且具有一定的智能性和实时性,可以有效的提高家居安防水平。

随着美国"在家上学"运动的迅速发展,越来越多"在家上学"的学生开始进入高校学习或准备读大学。针对这一特殊群体,美国高校采取的政策主要有三类:完全拒斥、特别青睐以及与其他学生一视同仁;但整体而言,越来越多的美国高校开始接受和认可这类学生。美国高校政策转变的动力在于美国高等教育的市场化机制、分权制管理体制以及对多样性的珍视。对于以"在家上学"为代表的多元化的教育形式,我国高校也应采取包容的态度,满足多元化的教育需求。
