Balancing Significance and Maintaining ‘Sense of Place’ in the Sustainable Display of Tudor Tapestries in the Great Hall,Hampton Court Palace

ABSTRACT

Hampton Court Palace’s Great Hall located in Surrey, UK, is a magnificent late medieval hall. Its large hammer-beam roof is sumptuously decorated while its walls for the past century have been rehung with Henry VIII’s five-hundred-year-old tapestries illustrating The Story of Abraham, and one of the most internationally significant sets of sixteenth-century tapestries, commissioned for the same hall. This paper presents research which began in 2007, exploring conservation solutions based on evidence-based decision-making, through to successful implementation of measures that conserve these invaluable tapestries without damaging the aesthetic or physical integrity of the Great Hall. The impacts of environmental exposure conditions mapped in detail were assessed to evaluate risk for each tapestry. Next, feasibility studies identified the effectiveness of a range of potential mitigating options to address each local risk, now being incrementally implemented over many years. The research has enabled us to develop, test and deliver permanent interventions that have – when considered together as a holistic management regime – allowed the tapestries to remain in situ. These interventions will continue to be monitored and evaluated for at least a further year to confirm their effectiveness.

This textual analysis focuses on the portrayal of female journalists in House of Cards. The uneven depictions of six female journalists could have a socializing effect on the audience. The researchers argue that the character Zoe Barnes is depicted as childlike, unprofessional, and unethical, while the character Ayla Sayyad is portrayed as a dedicated watchdog journalist. The researchers then explore the ethical implications of these portrayals through the lens of social responsibility theory.

The Validity of Global Press Ratings

This study examines year-by-year correlations between Freedom House and Reporters Sans Frontières' (RSF) press freedom scores for countries over a 13-year period (2002–2014). The goal of the study is to test the hypothesis that, further into the age of digital disclosure, as press abuses and harassment of journalists are more widely reported, press freedom ranking systems are gradually becoming more precise and, therefore, correlations between the two indices will strengthen over time. To further assess concurrent validity of the indices, correlations between both indices and scores on the United Nations Human Development Index are also provided. The study also examines changes in the indices' rankings of countries over time within six world regions: the Middle East and North Africa, the Americas, Western Europe, Eastern Europe/Central Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Asia. In so doing, this study adds a degree of understanding to the validity of two press freedom indices that are routinely cited in journalistic reportage and trade journals, as well as many scholarly publications. Results suggest that the two organizations' scoring of press freedom has become significantly more correlated in the years 2002–2014, and the primary cause of the increased agreement is that RSF's ratings became substantially more aligned with Freedom House's scores during this period. Both indices' ratings are significantly correlated with countries' United Nations Human Development Index scores.

分析了电除尘侧面式振打装置结构特点,利用Solidworks快速建立机械零件的三维实体绘图和三维装配功能,对侧部挠臂锤振打装置的各个组成部分进行实体造型设计与虚拟装配.虚拟设计技术的应用极大地缩短了电除尘侧面式振打装置的设计研发周期,降低了产品生产成本,为电除尘侧面式振打装置的设计提供了一个高效的开发途径.

通过以互文性为理论依据,采用托马斯.卡莱尔对工业化进程中社会价值观变迁的回应论—"现金联结",对《荒凉山庄》中众多人物间的人际关系重新进行审视,揭示狄更斯既有力地批判了中产阶级和贵族阶级以钱财为主导的价值观,又塑造了伊斯特和乔治这样的正面人物,作为对卡莱尔所批评的"现金哲学"的有力呼应。以此证明《荒凉山庄》是狄更斯回应"进步"话语的又一部巨著。

设计了一种由单片机(STC12C5616AD)控制的智能黑板擦,能自动识别粉尘位置,自由移动,并在擦出后自动收集粉尘。该黑板擦由粉尘传感器、采集电路、四轮驱动机构、单片机(STC12C5616AD)、吸尘装置等部分构成,其特征是:利用粉尘传感器实现定位;利用电机正反转原理控制板擦的上下左右的移动;利用磁材、自动控制擦除装置与黑板的接触与分离,实现随时随意擦除的功能;利用负压原理实现粉尘的集中处理。
