Peer Teachers With Autism Teaching 3D Modeling

ABSTRACT

Few autism programmes address the needs of adolescents and young adults, and those that do are unlikely to include individuals with autism in the design and evaluation of the programme. This study involved nine youth with autism (ages 16–25) in the development and evaluation of a peer teaching programme where they taught three-dimensional modelling to other students with autism spectrum disorder. The methodology was participant-oriented research where the students with autism were co-designers and programme evaluators in the research. This approach highlighted their unique strengths and abilities and shifted the power such that they were leaders and not simply the recipients of knowledge from instructors. Four themes emerged through the qualitative analysis of the students’ perceptions of the peer teaching programme: 1) the meaning of peer teaching, 2) motivations for peer teaching, 3) challenges and 4) coping with the challenges of the role.

离体肝脏灌注法收集家鸭毛毕吸虫成虫

为研究毛毕吸虫成虫的分离方法,应用离体肝脏灌注法和肠系膜静脉解剖法对毛毕吸虫成虫进行了分离效果的比较研究。结果表明离体肝脏灌注法的分离效果明显优于肠系膜静脉解剖法（Ｐ＜０．０１）。该方法对于进一步研究毛毕属吸虫的生活史及其成虫的形态特征有其实用价值。     

沈阳市成年业余足球锻炼人群现状研究

采用文献资料法、问卷调查法和数理统计法,对沈阳市业余参加足球锻炼人群的性别、年龄、学历、收入等情况及其动机进行调查,以期为进一步普及足球运动、促进足球运动在沈阳的发展提供参考。     

Biculturalism as a double-edged sword: The perspectives of Mexican American emerging adults

Cultural and ethnic identity research largely highlights the adaptiveness of biculturalism among Latino youth in the United States. Less is known about how Latino youth themselves define and experience biculturalism, the cultural identity content that they deem relevant, and how heritage and host identities intersect. Using an inductive approach, this study examines the salience, valence, and meaning of biculturalism among Latino youth living in a multicultural U.S. city. Twenty-six Mexican American emerging adults (M_age = 22.35 years) participated in semi-structured interviews and constructed cultural identity maps focusing on their experiences of biculturalism. Qualitative analysis reveals that participants overwhelmingly deem biculturalism to be positive and explores the duality (i.e.: opposition or contrast) that lies beneath that positivity. Participants emphasized individual-level advantages of biculturalism, namely, that their Mexican heritage provides identity rootedness and enables expanded career and educational opportunities. The bicultural challenges that participants discussed were overwhelmingly relational: familial cultural gaps due to dissonant values and critical gazes from others due to inadequate cultural performances. By revealing that and why biculturalism is mostly positive in the eyes of participants, and exploring the duality that lies beneath that positivity, this study draws attention to the complexity of biculturalism that can be obscured by exclusive reliance on quantitative self-report measures.     

瑜伽练习对成年人心血管危险因素影响的Meta分析

目的：评价瑜伽练习对成年人心血管危险因素的影响。方法：检索MEDLINE、CNKI、万方等数据库,获得瑜伽练习对成年人心血管危险因素影响的中、英文随机对照试验文献,进行文献质量评价,应用Stata120进行Meta分析。结果：13篇文献纳入Meta分析。①瑜伽练习组BMI和血压降低程度显著大于对照组(p＜001）;②亚组分析显示：瑜伽练习总运动时间＞8周显著降低BMI（p＜001）;瑜伽干预时间并不影响血压下降的整体效应;③ Egger检验发表偏倚。9篇瑜伽练习影响BMI、5篇瑜伽练习影响收缩压和舒张压、5篇瑜伽练习影响血糖和8篇瑜伽练习影响血脂的文献漏斗图对称性均较好,均无显著发表偏倚（p＜001）。结论：现有证据显示：瑜伽练习显著降低具有心血管危险因素的成年人BMI和血压水平,当具有心血管危险因素、总运动时间＞8周时,BMI的下降效果更加显著     

Story writing skills of adults with a history language-impairment

The purpose of this study was to investigate the story writing skills of adults with a history of oral language impairment. It was hypothesized that writing text would pose difficulty for adults with a history of language impairment (LI), and that this difficulty would manifest itself as reduced grammatical complexity and increased errors in spelling, grammar and punctuation. The story writing of 10 adults with a history of LI was compared to a group of 51 unimpaired individuals. Participants were asked to write the story of Cinderella. Stories were analysed for length, grammatical complexity and accuracy of grammar, punctuation and spelling. Data were analysed to determine group trends as well as individual profiles. As a group, the adults with LI showed no difference from the comparison group in the length of their stories as measured by total number of words. The LI group did, however, show reduced grammatical complexity in their writing, as measured by mean length of t-unit. The LI group made more errors in grammar, spelling and punctuation than the comparison group. Individual analyses indicated substantial variability within the LI group. It is concluded that LI in childhood is associated with writing difficulties in adulthood.     

“What are you Representing?” Contesting Identities of Incarcerated Youth

This article explores how incarcerated youth and adult supervisors contest claims to identity via language of “representing”. Comparing how youth and adults “represent” in discussions of their own past and future selves sheds light on the constrained universe of discourse within which both groups work to express identities and on the basis of which we counsel, mentor, and educate young people. Acknowledging these constraints can contribute to understanding what I call exceptionalism—the idea that only exceptional poor and raced young men, through great personal effort and sacrifice, may resist the lure of the “street”. I conclude by discussing implications of this work for education and youth development work both inside and beyond the juvenile justice system as well as for research across lines of difference by committed “outsiders”.
