A Review of: “Training Paraprofessionals for Reference Service: A How-To-Do-It Manual for Librarians. 2nd ed. Morgan,Pamela J.”

QR codes, or “Quick Response” codes, are two-dimensional barcodes that can be scanned by mobile smartphone cameras. These codes can be used to provide fast access to URLs, telephone numbers, and short passages of text. With the rapid adoption of smartphones, librarians are able to use QR codes to promote services and help library users find materials quickly and independently. This article will explain what QR codes are, discuss how they can be used in the library, and describe issues surrounding their use. A list of resources for generating and scanning QR codes is also provided.     

Wolfphram|Alpha: A Brief Introduction

On May 18, 2009, British computer scientist Stephen Wolfram officially launched a new search product called Wolfram|Alpha (WA). This launch was preceded by months of speculation and hype online about exactly what WA would be and how it would compare to Google and other search engines. This article will explore the basic features of WA, show some example queries and results, and discuss the usefulness and limitations of this new tool.     

Health Sciences Librarians' Research on Medical Students' Use of Information for Their Studies at The Medical School,University of Queensland,Australia

This study reports the findings of research undertaken by health sciences librarians at the University of Queensland Library into how medical students use information for their studies, particularly resources and services provided by the Library. The methods utilized were an online survey and focus groups. Results indicated that students favor print resources over electronic, value accessing resources on a one-stop basis, and prefer training to be delivered flexibly. The implication of these results for future resource selection, service provision, and instructional design and delivery is discussed.     

From Google Print to Google Book Search: The Controversial Initiative and Its Impact on Other Remarkable Digitization Projects

Google's initiative to scan and add book content into its search engine has resulted in much praise and protest. Changing its digitization project's name from Google Print to Google Book Search and adding information to its site did not keep Google out of copyright court. However, publicity surrounding this project has spawned renewed interest in book digitization projects, with collaborative efforts quickly growing. This article will look at Book Search's history, highlight how it has been altered along with its name, and point out other interesting book digitization projects that Book Search has spawned or recently brought into the limelight, such as those associated with the Internet Archive.

Web Archive采集并保存Web内容,满足当前和未来的访问和使用,其重要性已得到图书馆、档案馆、政府、企业等机构的广泛认可.本文在文献与网络资源调研的基础上,以Web采集、Web Archive的保存、访问和使用为主线,构建了一个系统化的研究框架,并在此框架下梳理国外的相关研究与实践进展.国外的研究与实践值得国内借鉴,如:多主体参与、广泛的交流与合作、注重标准和规范的建设、构建类型多样的Web Archives、对访问与使用的优化等方面,但该领域仍面临法律与伦理、新Web应用内容的归档、存档内容的长期保存、存档内容的多元化应用等问题和挑战.

大学生网络成瘾及团体心理干预策略

本文通过文献研究,分析了大学生网络成瘾的心理和行为特点,提出一些有效治疗大学生网络成瘾的团体领导策略和团体活动策略,并认为整合型团体心理干预方案效果更显著、更持久。     

The Interface of Opinion,Understanding and Evaluation While Learning About a Socioscientific Issue

Scientific literacy is an important goal for science education, especially within controversial socioscientific issues. In this study, we analysed 143 students' research reports about stem cell research (SCR) for how they addressed specific source evaluation criteria provided within the assignment. We investigated students' opinions about SCR, how they used the evaluation criteria to evaluate online sources and whether the evaluation criteria and/or the specific sources influenced their opinion and/or understanding of SCR. We found that most of the students supported some form of SCR and reported that their sources were credible and contained more factual information than opinions. Students critiqued the language of the authors, as well as status in their respective fields, along with the content within each source. Additionally, students reported that their sources influenced their content knowledge, but had little influence regarding their SCR opinions. Through this work, we present a new working model and suggest the need for additional research about the understudied interface of opinion, understanding and evaluation within the context of important socioscientific issues. Students' opinions and content knowledge, located at the model's centre, influence and are influenced by the research topic, the sources used, the evaluation criteria and the evaluation of the sources that students use to provide evidence for claims.     

网络环境下思想政治教育内容体系构建

网络的出现和发展及由此带来的网络环境,既给思想政治教育带来新的挑战,又为其发展提供新的条件。网络环境下思想政治教育是根据网络环境的特征以及关系而确定的,其内容由思想观念、政治观点和道德规范三方面的体系所构成;应遵循科学性与价值性相结合、渗透性和主体性相结合以及隐性教育和显性教育相结合的原则。     

英文写作的多媒体网络辅助教学模式探索

本研究的目的是为了探索互联网在二语写作教学中的作用.笔者讨论了3种网络辅助教学的方法:以多媒体为媒介的英语写作教学;以网络为媒介的英语写作教学,在虚拟网络平台进行的英语写作教学.研究认为教学效果取决于学习者的现有水平;写作任务的类型和学习者的个人因素.研究揭示了多媒体网络辅助教学方式的利与弊,并为未来的研究指明方向.
