论简·奥斯丁叙事策略的转化

简.奥斯丁的第一部小说《诺桑觉寺》采用了大胆、激进的叙事态势,构建了公开的、女性身份立场。这种叙事策略显示出一个初涉文坛的女作家对男性文学传统进行颠覆的勇气,显示了奥斯丁对话语权威毫不掩饰、大胆而激进的追求。这部小说在商业上的厄运促使奥斯丁改变了叙事策略,在随后的《理智与情感》、《傲慢与偏见》、《曼斯菲尔德庄园》和《爱玛》四部小说中,她避开了外向的作者权威,明显地表现出对作者型叙事行为的克制。这四部小说的成功给了奥斯丁极大的信心,在其最后一部小说《劝导》中,奥斯丁又一次改变叙事策略,她试图回归《诺桑觉寺》那种自由叙事手法,表现出对外在作者权威的再一次大胆地追求。奥斯丁叙事策略的改变显示出一个有着鲜明女性意识的作家在男性声音占统治地位的社会里对女性话语权的不懈追求。     

Fairy-tale Retellings between Art and Pedagogy

In this article, it is shown how authors of fairy-tale retellings have incorporated ideas of feminist literary criticism into a fictional form. As such, these retellings display the tension between the pedagogic and aesthetic aspects of all childrens literature. Jane Yolens Sleeping Ugly is chosen as a case study: although it can be argued that the book serves as a mouthpiece for the ideology of the emancipation movement formulated in Marcia Liebermans key text Some Day My Prince Will Come, it is suggested that Sleeping Ugly teaches children to read against a texts authority and as such undermines its own didactic potential.Vanessa Joosen (1977) has a Masters degree in English and German Literature from the University of Antwerp, and an MA in Childrens Literature from the University of Surrey Roehampton. In 2003, she received an FWO scholarship to fund her PhD at the University of Antwerp. She researches the interaction between fairy-tale retellings and criticism on fairy tales in the period from 1970 to 2000. Recent publications include Translating Dutch into Dutch in Signal 100, and an article on Belgian childrens books in Peter Hunts International Companion to Childrens Literature.

Jane Austin(1775-1817),one of the greatest realistic novelists in English literature,wrote several classical and popular novels,which are the portrayal of the late eighteenth and the early nineteenth centuries,although with a certain limitation.This paper tries to reveal the social history,the economic realities as well as the women’s social statues of Jane Austin’s day through her fictions.

由经典所启发的前篇和续书深受读者的欢迎。《夏洛特》即为最成功的续篇之一。该文从这一点出发,以文本细读为依托,对《简爱》续篇《夏洛特》中的女性反英雄形象后现代简爱和米兰达进行了详尽的剖析和解读。最后,笔者得出结论,在后现代主义阶段,传统的英雄人物形象已经褪去了高尚的光环,越来越接近普通人。而后现代简爱和米兰达即为反英雄的代表。

The Awakening of Female Consciousness:Analysis of Jane Eyre’ s Character

Jane Eyre is the masterpiece of Charlotte Bronte,who was a famous British woman novelist.In Jane Eyre,the author describes a heroine Jane Eyre who shows her rebelliousness to the indifferent and unequal society in her time and revealed the tragic life of common people,especially of women and children,under Capitalism.Meanwhile,this novel also provides such an important theme that women should enjoy an equal position with men both in family and social life.The heroine Jane is neither beautiful,nor rich,but her rebellion,independence and her pursuit of love strike us deeply.Jane Eyre sets a good example for women.Therefore,Jane Eyre becomes the typical figure with female consciousness.This paper is to analyze the typical character in Jane Eyre from the different periods of her life and conclude that Jane comes to self consciousness in this process.From the analysis of Jane’s splendid character,we can see the awakening of female consciousness in that period of time.
