Disentangling the relationship between working memory and language: The roles of short-term storage and cognitive control

This study investigates the relationship between working memory and language in young children growing up in a multilingual environment. The aim is to explore whether mechanisms of short-term storage and cognitive control hold similar relations to emerging language skills and to investigate if potential links are mediated by related cognitive abilities. A sample of 119 Luxembourgish 6-year-olds completed several assessments of working memory (complex and simple span), native and foreign vocabulary, syntax, reading, rhyme awareness, and fluid intelligence. Results showed that short-term storage and cognitive control manifested differential links with developing language abilities: Whereas verbal short-term storage was specifically linked to vocabulary; cognitive control manifested unique and robust links with syntax and early reading development. The study suggests that in young children the working memory system is composed of separate but interacting components corresponding to short-term storage and cognitive control that can be distinguished by the roles they play in supporting language acquisition.     

Improving Writing Skills of Thai EFL Students by Recognition of and Compensation for Factors of L 1 to L2 Negative Transfer

In this study, we examined the likelihood of a TAME （extended technology acceptance model）, in which the interrelationships among computer self-efficacy, perceived usefulness, intention to use and self-reported use of computer-mediated technology were tested. In addition, the gender- and age-invariant of its causal structure were evaluated. The data were collected from a self-reported questionnaire administered to 477 administrative staff of a public university in Malaysia. The results of structural equation modeling supported the adequacy of TAME. Although the TAME＇s causal structure was applicable to both male and female staff, age group appeared to moderate the structural relationships among the constructs of interest.     

蔡元培美育思想对当前高校审美教育的启示

蔡元培先生提出的以培养完全人格为目标的近代美育观,不仅对中国近代社会产生了深远的影响,而且为我国现阶段的高等教育提供了不少有益的启示。当前,审美教育在中国高等院校中没有得到应有重视,这不利于高校学生审美人格的形成。根据蔡元培美育理念,高等教育应重视审美教育,通过组织美的教学、建设美的文化、营造美的环境等方式塑造美的学生,切实提高当前高校人才培养的质量。     

论教学的诗性

教学具有诗性。教学的诗性美具体表现为教学目标的育人之美、教学过程的心灵栖居之美、教学方法的灵动之美和教学内容的素材之美。构建诗性的课堂应该成为课程与教学变革的理想追求。

文学在抗战时期顺应历史潮流,宣传抗战促使抗战达到全面动员;这同时也促使了文学与当时的社会现实全面而整体的结合,走向现实主义,实现了抗战文学建国与建立新文艺的双重目标。由此,文学与抗战的结合充分显示了文学在抗战时期的作用和功能,展示了文学在特殊历史时期的特殊作用,同时,也为文学开拓了一个崭新的审美表现空间,使文学呈现出不同的文化特征和审美追求。     

关于文学语言的若干理论认识--读高万云的《文学语言的多维视野》

通过对高著的分析,进一步提出和阐述了一些重要的见解,对"语言不同而思维相同"说的质疑,提出作家的功力在对语言的敏感和对语言的认识两个方面等.此文认为语言交际是不同的人在交际中既去同又去异的不断磨合的过程:语言就是文学语言、日常语言、科学语言的联合体.不是先有一个叫语言的东西,然后出现文学语言、日常语言、科学语言这些变体;还举例说明程序语言.     

Language education needs for multilingualism in Fiji primary schools

This paper looks at current practice in teaching multilingual Indo-Fijian children in eight Fiji primary schools. Indo-Fijians speak Fiji Hindi (FH) as their mother tongue, learn Shudh Hindi (SH) or Urdu, and English for formal and literacy purposes and use English and Fijian for interethnic communication. The current education policy states that children be taught in their mother tongue for the first 3 years of primary school before English becomes the medium of instruction. This practice was not apparent in the schools. In all 24 observed classrooms, English was the dominant language of instruction. There is an important need in Fiji for teacher training to address the issues around multilingual education so that teachers can confidently contribute to an educational system which maximises the use of Fiji's linguistic resources for the educational advancement of all sectors of the country's population.
