文章通过对30篇英文留学个人陈述样本的体裁进行比较分析,归纳总结了其在内部建构上的共性和差异,从而揭示了个人陈述的体裁特征,同时证实了体裁分析的核心是交际目的,交际目的决定体裁的存在。

Short-Term Study-Abroad Experience in Ireland: An Exercise in Cross-Cultural Counseling

International exchanges or study-abroad experiences can have lifelong impacts on students from various disciplines. This article describes the integration of a short-term study-abroad program to Ireland into two socio-cultural courses. The experience also offers course credit for major requirements in two programs. Through this two-week travel experience students are brought into intensive contact with educators, scholars, and community activists in Ireland and Northern Ireland and weigh differences and similarities in the social issues and services among the three countries. While the course is aimed at students in the counseling field, it also appeals to students majoring in criminal justice, sociology, women's studies, international studies, and political science.

袁世凯是著名的中国近代历史人物,为中国近代军事教育的发展作出了重大的贡献。但是,袁世凯对军事留学教育却经历了一个从重视到抵制、排斥的过程,对于学成归国的军事留学生也持怀疑、排斥的态度。     

How Does Training Abroad Affect Faculty Income? An Analysis Based on the “2014 Faculty Survey in China”

Abstract

Training abroad is an important avenue for promoting the specialized development of faculty and improving international accomplishments. On the basis of the data from the 2014 Faculty Survey in China, this paper applies the technique of propensity score matching to control for the self-selection bias in the sample, so as to quantitatively evaluate the economic benefits of training abroad for faculty. The study finds that training abroad presents significant economic returns, while the potential benefits of training abroad for faculty members who have not yet pursued training abroad are higher than the benefits for faculty members who have pursued training abroad; a nonlinear relationship exists between the period of time for which a faculty member pursues training abroad and the economic benefits thereof, with the order of the economic benefits of training abroad from least to most for different time periods being: 1?year, less than one half year, more than one half year to less than 1?year, and more than 1?year. The conclusions of the study provide an empirical basis for the selection of pathways for the professional development of faculty in the future, as well as the design and refinement of training abroad programs, et cetera.
