Use Your Words: The Role of Language in the Development of Toddlers' Self-Regulation

Self-regulation emerges throughout early childhood, and predicts later success in socially and cognitively challenging situations. Vygotsky proposed that symbols, particularly words, serve as mental tools to be used in service of self-regulation. Cross-sectional research indicates a positive but inconsistent association between language and self-regulation skills throughout toddlerhood, but research has not accounted for general cognitive development, nor gender differences in these domains. We used growth modeling of longitudinal data for 120 toddlers collected when children were 14, 24, and 36 months to test the impact of two expressive language skills - spoken vocabulary and talkativeness - on the growth of toddlers' self-regulation, and to determine whether associations between these domains exist when controlling for cognitive development. Results reveal gender differences in self-regulation trajectories, and in the impact of language on self-regulation. Vocabulary is a better predictor of self-regulation than talkativeness, and both concurrent and prior vocabulary positively predicted children's levels of self-regulation. When cognitive development was controlled, 24-month vocabulary still predicted the trajectory of self-regulation. Results reveal that, even in early development, words are tools that can be applied to the task of self-regulation, and may be a more necessary tool for boys than for girls at this age.     

浅谈江南传统建筑装饰样式的符号化——周生记酒店设计初探

当今社会,现代、简约的装饰风格已经成为时代发展的主题,而如何继承传统,如何把地域特色和传统文脉融入现代设计中,越来越受到人们的关注,成为我们设计研究的方向.在周生记酒店的设计中我们试图做一些尝试,把江南传统建筑装饰样式作为现代设计符号来运用,以表现江南传统特色,并就其符号的图象性,符号的标志性,符号的象征性三者之间的关系,以及传统符号与现代设计的共生等问题结合具体设计进行说明.     

Meaningful learning and creativity in virtual worlds

Virtual worlds open new possibilities for learners, prompting a reconsideration of how learning takes place, and setting education in a context of playfulness, delight and creativity. They provide environments in which it is not only possible but also necessary to generate and try out ideas. They therefore offer opportunities to explore new possibilities related to teaching and learning about creativity and to challenge assumptions about the creative capabilities of young learners. The research reported here focuses on a group of teenaged learners who worked together online in the virtual world of Second Life®, as well as using other online tools. It applies thematic analysis to a 120-post forum discussion carried out over two weeks, in which 19 learners and educators debated how to develop their virtual island, and sets this discussion in the context of ongoing interaction within this group. Their focus widened from building plans to cover the creation and maintenance of a community, creatively synthesising considerations relating to environment, ethics, governance, aesthetics and purpose. The teenagers’ creativity when dealing with this authentic problem extended well beyond the elements identified by England's National Curriculum, and was supported by staff's active and supportive engagement in the debate.     

大学英语课堂应重视价值引导

当前大学英语教师对是否应该在大学英语课堂进行价值引导没有统一的认识,但是大学英语课堂丰富的人文性使得价值引导成为一个无法回避的话题。罗杰斯的教育目的观和学习观对大学英语课堂价值引导提供了有益的启示：教育要培养“完整的人”,因此大学英语课堂不仅要注重语言技能和文化技能的培养, 也要加强价值引导和素质教育; 为了使英语学习成为“有意义的学习”,价值引导和人文关怀对于大学英语课堂也成为不可或缺的一部分。     

“幸福体育”的文化哲学建构——基于身体赋权视角

以文化态身体为逻辑起点,通过对体育、身体、幸福之间逻辑关系的演绎,以文化哲学研究范式的符号化指向,提供了“幸福体育”的阐释路径和基本理论架构;通过对体育中身体赋权概念及其路径的分析,建立了身体赋权连接幸福意义系统的模型。认为：（1）幸福的具身体验是一种意义系统的描写,“幸福体育”可以通过体育中身体的文化符号行为来建构;（2）身体赋权通过“自我意识、超越、群体与组织意识”等符号化意义系统连接了幸福体育所蕴含的要素,并解析了其赋权策略;（3）身体赋权存在超越符号的反动的意义系统,体育中的痛苦与冲突等体验,可以体悟和建构形而上的美学化幸福体育。     

人性的残缺和完满--试论渡边淳一《失乐园》

日本作家渡边淳一的《失乐园》曾引起许多读者的关注,但一般都仅仅把它看作是叙述一个“婚外情”的故事。笔者认为《失乐园》还可以看作是一个象征符号,它揭示了现代人性的残缺,是对现代社会和人性的批判,同时又是对完满人性的祈祷和召唤。     

武当山武术活动略述

通过文献资料、调查访问等方法,对武当山武术活动情况进行了系统研究。结果认为：武当山先民为武术的产生储备了先决条件;原始战争是武当山武术产生的动因,“干戚舞”是武当山武术诞生的标志;巴人“巴渝舞”是武当山武术活动的一大亮点;楚人“武当”,促使了武当山武术技击体系初步形成;从武术活动的群体、功能上来看,武当山武术活动主要有：军事武术、民间武术和道教武术等活动。     

论哈尼/阿卡血缘标志——谱系

哈尼/阿卡人①有自己的语言,而无自己的传统文字,在漫长的历史发展过程中,用自己的聪明才智,创造了光辉灿烂的父子连名谱系文化。这种文化在世界文明的史册中占有不可替代的位置。该文通过对国内外哈尼/阿卡父子连名谱系、宗族分支、血亲认同等材料综合比较分析,阐释国内外哈尼/阿卡父子连名谱系中的"人鬼共居"时期的"神谱"、父系氏族社会时期部落首领的"人谱"和平民百姓家族谱系中的宗族分支等,揭示了国内外哈尼/阿卡父子连名谱系产生的历史背景和宗族血缘认同的内涵。
