《七侠五义》成功地塑造了许多栩栩如生的侠义之士,讴歌和赞美了其＂侠之忠＂与＂侠之义＂,并且使这些侠士及其侠行、侠节,侠行成为贯穿小说始终的一个核心和主体。作为＂侠士＂的代表人物,展昭的形象历来争论不休,众说纷纭。初读《七侠五义》认为展昭只是＂侠之忠＂的刻骨追随者,但是在深入了解作品的的写作背景后再读这本书,则发现展昭身上所体现的是另一类＂侠之义＂,展昭就是＂忠义两全＂的完美结合者。

舜帝传说与民间故事有着宽广而深刻的联系,一方面,原生态舜帝传说的情节单元作为原型对民间故事的母题产生着源远流长的影响.另一方面,民间故事母题当中的因子又渗透到再生态舜帝传说当中使得舜帝传说更为丰富多彩.舜帝传说中包含了大量民间故事的传统主题和母题原型.而民间故事中,难题考验故事、孝子故事、灰姑娘型故事、两兄弟型故事、仙女救夫型故事和恋人殉情故事与舜帝传说的情节单元有着密切的联系.

周昭王南征.前人及时贤多有论及,但涉及昭王南征的对象、目的、线路等诸问题,则多有歧异,故不得不辩。本文结合传世文献及出土文物,尤其是青铜器铭文,对昭王南征作一简单辨析。本文认为,周昭王南征的对象是周初溃逃江南的殷民旧族,南征的目的是为了获取江南的铜锡,南征的线路则渡汉水击荆楚,沿颍水、汝水而下伐虎方。

The Black Arts Movement and African American Young Adult Literature: An Evaluation of Narrative Style

In this article I question whether or not African American young adult literature serves as a primer for, and a version of, African American adult literature. Using the Black Aesthetic as my literary theory and the Coretta Scott King Award as the young adult canon, I note that while the content of adolescent literature is consistent with the tenets of the Black Aesthetic and African American adult literature, the literary elements and style are not. As such, young readers of African American young adult literature are not necessarily prepared for the literary elements and style of canonical African American adult literature. Further, I note that editors, publishers, and literary critics may contribute to the construction of young adult literature, in that editors may discourage authors from experimenting with form and style. Finally, I call for reorienting Black children’s and adolescent literature away from White literary elements and style and toward Black literary elements and style.     

C. Walter Hodges: A Life Illustrating History

C. Walter Hodges first came to prominence as the author/illustrator of Columbus Sails in 1939, which the Junior Bookshelf hailed as The best book never to have been awarded the Carnegie Medal. Widely acclaimed for the treatment of its subject matter, its powerful narration, and accompanying dramatic line illustrations, Columbus Sails was the first of a number of vivid historical novels written and illustrated by Hodges, including The Namesake (nominated for the 1964 Carnegie Medal), The Marsh King (1967), and The Overland Launch (1969). He is internationally recognised both for his indispensable and learned books about the Elizabethan theatre (for which he gained the Kate Greenaway Medal for illustration in 1964) and his vital illustrations to other authors' texts. This timely article is based on interviews and correspondence between the author and Hodges, and traces and celebrates the latter's life and career as a writer, book illustrator, teacher, and scholar.
