The influence of wearing ski-boots with different rigidity characteristics on postural control

Abstract

External supports that reduce ankle joint mobility such as ski-boots can impair postural control of healthy participants. Although this disruptive effect has been attributed to the rigidity of the external supports, the results remained controversial and no study has been conducted in order to evaluate the influence of ski-boots rigidity. Hence, the question about the influence of ankle support rigidity on postural control remains open. This study was therefore undertaken in order to investigate the effect of ski-boots rigidity on postural control. Ten healthy active participants were recruited. The wearing of soft and rigid ski-boots was compared to barefoot while standing on a seesaw generating mediolateral and anteroposterior instability. Centre of pressure displacements were sampled with a force platform. The surface electromyographic activity of the main muscles from the leg, thigh and trunk was recorded. A motion analysis system was also used to calculate the ankle, knee and hip angles. The results did not reveal any negative influence of ski-boot rigidity on postural control but rather suggest a less active postural control with the rigid ski-boots which offered a higher mechanical contribution.

Age and gender-related differences in the temporal congruence development between motor imagery and motor performance

Temporal congruence between motor imagery and motor performance was evaluated in 30 elementary school children (7 and 8-year-olds) and 61 middle school children (11 and 12-year-olds), using the “Harre's Chase” obstacle-course [Harre, D. (1976). Trainingslehre. Berlin: Sportverlag]. It is made of successive elementary actions including running, rolling forward, changing direction, jumping and crawling. The children were requested to perform the obstacle-course both actually and mentally. Results showed that motor imagery duration was closer to that of actual execution in the middle school children group, as compared to elementary school children. We also found a gender difference, boys being more able than girls to reach the temporal congruency between imagined and physical times. Developmental factors, as well as gender differences in socio-cognitive traits, are discussed as the main factors explaining the development of the isochrony between actual and imagined movements.     

Collaborative Teaching of Motor Skills for Preschoolers with Developmental Delays

The purpose of this paper is to describe collaborative teaching between preschool teachers, adapted physical educators, physical therapists, and occupational therapists of motor skills for preschoolers with developmental delays. The motor domain is typically taught by the classroom teacher who may have little to no knowledge of how to initiate a motor program. For this reason, a collaborative approach in teaching the motor domain facilitates developing preschool readiness skills such as motor imitation, bilateral coordination and sequencing, and spatial awareness—all while taking the child’s special needs into consideration. The team also collaborates on teaching strategies, behavioral supports, and how they will keep the activities fun to facilitate active participation. The team members work in synchrony for common goals, providing input from their individual areas of expertise, so the children can learn and generalize skills across all environments.

运动再学习疗法对脑血管意外偏瘫患者下肢运动功能康复的疗效观察

分别运用运动再学习疗法和易化技术对两组情况相似的脑血管意外偏瘫患者进行康复训练，并进行治疗前后的组内比较和治疗后的组间比较。经过两个月的康复训练两组患者下肢功能有显著提高，但运动再学习组功能改善情况明显优于易化技术组，为脑血管意外偏瘫患者的康复提供了依据。
