A pillar of the Youngstown community: The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County engages in the Harwood practice

ABSTRACT

The Harwood Institute arrived in Youngstown, Ohio, in 1999; and today, over 18 years later, its teachings have made a profound effect upon the city. The Youngstown Public Library, through the leadership of Carlton Sears and Heidi Daniel, has wholeheartedly embraced the methods and ideology of the Harwood Institute, helping to reinvigorate and power a city working its way back to prosperity.     

Managing a Biomedical Library’s Instruction Program: Redefining Scope

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) library instruction program provides training services to staff, clinicians, and researchers across NIH and several Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) operating divisions. The audience, training needs, and training topics are diverse and constantly changing. The NIH library has developed several new services and class topics to meet the needs of its NIH and HHS communities. Context, strategies, and future directions for the NIH library instruction program are described.     

Family Communication Patterns as Predictors of Organizational Dissent: A Replication Study

This study replicated a previous research project addressing connections between family-of-origin communication and organizational dissent expression. We predicted that family communication patterns (FCPs), specifically conversation and conformity orientations, would predict upward, lateral, and displaced dissent. As in the original study, significant findings emerged for upward dissent and conformity orientation. This replication study indicated family type as an inconsistent predictor of expressed dissent. Contrary to the original study, we found no evidence to support a connection between pluralistic family types and upward dissent. Finally, as an extension of the original study we analyzed effects of FCPs on displaced dissent, finding an inverse association with conversation orientation. Implications for future research are discussed.     

高校图书馆·"五定律"·贫困生

由于社会经济发展不平衡,来自经济困难家庭的大学生占了不少的比例.高校图书馆在现代进程中为贫困生利用图书馆创造平等机会,是阮冈纳赞图书馆"五定律"精神所要求的,也是高校图书馆教育职能的体现.但高校图书馆在现代化的进程中忽视了贫困生的权益.文章指出上述问题存在的事实,提出了改进的主张和方法.     

土木工程专业英语教学改革探讨

针对土木工程专业英语教学中存在的问题,从教学目标、教学内容、教学方法等方面进行了探讨,并提出了改革课程设置、实行“双语”教学的意义。     

基于嵌入式Linux的网络传输系统的内核编译与移植

以Xscale处理器架构的PXA255开发板为硬件基础,将开发好的嵌入式TCP/IP协议栈加载到嵌入式Linux构成的嵌入式系统内核中,设计并构成了基本的硬件、软件平台,在此基础上按照内核重编译的工作流程和要求,完成了TCP/IP协议栈在嵌入式Linux操作系统2.6.10内核中的加载与编译,并最终移植到Xscale处理器架构的PXA255开发板上。     

基于ASP.Net应用系统的网络安全研究与设计

介绍了基于ASP.Net平台B/S架构的应用系统网络安全的设计,分析了B/S三层网络架构的安全机制,给出了通过身份验证、权限控制、数据加密、存储过程访问数据库等手段实现系统的安全性的技术要点。     

美国国家科学基金会对融合研究的资助及启示

融合研究是促进科学技术发展的新范式,不仅会促进科学技术取得突破性发展,而且是解决21世纪人类面临宏大挑战的一种重要途径。文章考察了融合研究的内涵和特点,以及美国国家科学基金会(NSF)融合研究的概念;根据NSF十大投入计划和新的战略规划(2018—2022年),指出发展融合研究在NSF中的战略地位;分析NSF支持融合研究的基础和融合项目的特点,并对第一批融合项目的实施作了介绍;总结出NSF支持融合研究可供借鉴的若干结论,并对我国发展融合研究提出若干建议。     

嗜热酶的稳定机制和稳定策略的研究进展

来源于嗜热菌的嗜热酶具有热稳定性和嗜热性。嗜热酶与对应的中温酶序列具有高度的序列同源性、高度相似的三级结构和催化机制。在简单总结了嗜热酶的生化和分子特性后,本文重点讨论了嗜热酶稳定的分子机制和提高蛋白质稳定性的策略。嗜热酶稳定的分子机制包括:氨基酸组成特性、蛋白质分子内的作用力、蛋白质构型的影响、锚定N末端和C末端、环的缩短和固定、翻译后修饰。提高蛋白质热稳定性的策略包括:蛋白质工程策略(序列一致概念、理性设计、定向进化、多肽链延伸和计算模型)、化学修饰法、添加保护剂提高酶的稳定性。     

生师比评价的一个数学模型及其在教学评估中的应用

本文在生师比评价实际问题的基础上,提出了一种基于模糊数学原则的数学模型,将该模型应用于一个实际的教学评估案例中,对评估结果进行分析并给出了建议。
