Teachers’ occupational attributes and their psychological wellbeing,job satisfaction,occupational self-concept and quitting intentions

Little is known about the determinants of teachers' psychological wellbeing, job satisfaction, occupational self-concept and quitting intentions. In this paper, teachers' occupational attributes (i.e. professional and personal characteristics) were investigated as determinants. Henceforth, the Educator Motivation and Attribute Profile (EdMAP) scales were used to describe the nature of 1109 Hong Kong primary and secondary school teachers' occupational attributes. Furthermore, the relationships with the teacher outcomes were investigated. Construct validity and reliabilities of the EdMAP scales were satisfactory. The results showed positive associations between teachers’ occupational attributes and their wellbeing, job satisfaction, and self-concept, and negative associations with quitting intentions.     

Group Therapy for Improving Self-Esteem and Social Functioning of College Students With ADHD

The present study examined the effectiveness of interpersonal group therapy designed to improve self-esteem and social functioning in college students with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Participants with documented ADHD diagnoses completed self-report measures of self-esteem and social functioning at the initiation of the study, after 6 weeks, and at 12 weeks. Half the participants completed a 12-week interpersonal group therapy while the other half served as a control group matched by gender and age. Findings suggest that interpersonal group therapy improves self-esteem, psychosocial competence, and emotional maturity, and should be a treatment option for college students with ADHD. Implications for practice are discussed.     

Activity of periscapular muscles and its correlation with external oblique during push-up: Does scapular dyskinesis change the electromyographic response?

Scapular dyskinesis is the term used to describe changes in the positioning or movement of the scapula. Such dysfunction is associated with changes in the activation of the scapular muscles. However, the influence of the axial muscles on the scapular muscles activity of subjects with scapular dyskinesis is unknown. This study aimed to compare the electromyography (EMG) activity of periscapular muscles and its correlation with the external oblique muscle during the execution of push-up performed in different surfaces, in volunteers with and without scapular dyskinesis. Thirty-six men, divided in two groups (control and dyskinesis), performed push-up on stable and unstable surface. The EMG activity of serratus anterior (SA_5th and SA_7th fibers), upper (UT) and lower (LT) trapezius, external oblique (EO) was recorded during execution of each task condition. Statistical analyzes were performed using two way ANOVA repeated measures and Pearson correlation. It was observed effect of interaction between factors, being evidenced increased activity of UT, SA_7th and OE for the control group and decreased activity of SA_5th, SA_7th and EO for dyskinesis group during execution of push-up on unstable surface. In both groups positive correlations (r > 0.47) were observed between EMG activity of SA and EO. In the exercises tested, there seems to be an anatomical and functional relationship between the SA and EO muscles. The use of the unstable surface promotes increased neuromuscular demand, but the neuromuscular strategies appear to differ between groups.

优秀运动员职业心理特征现状研究

为了促进优秀运动员职业生涯指导工作的开展,使运动员更加合理地规划自己的人生,对广西优秀运动员的职业心理特征现状进行了调查研究。结果表明,从总体上看,他们的职业心理特征是积极向上的,不同运动项目的运动员在职业心理特征各维度上具有非常显著性差异,不同性别、年龄、运动等级、训练年限、文化程度及来自不同地域运动员的职业心理特征在某些维度上也表现出差异性。
