The Direct-instruction Model favors the use of teacher explanations and modeling combined with student practice and feedback to teach thinking skills.
Using this paradigm, this study incorporates e-learning during an 18-week experimental instruction period that includes 48
preservice teachers. The instructional design in this study emphasizes scaffolding, observational learning, mastery of critical-thinking
skills, guided practices, cooperative learning, providing feedback, self-reflection, online discussions, and active participation
in an online learning community. This study employs 2 critical-thinking tests, 2 inventories, and 1 open-ended reflection
questionnaire; and students’ scores on the pretest and posttest are compared via the Repeated Measure Analysis of Variance.
The primary findings are as follows: (a) all participants preferred the instructional design in this study; (b) the experimental
instruction effectively improved the preservice teachers’ critical-thinking ability as well as their professional knowledge
and personal teaching efficacy concerning critical-thinking instruction; (c) the mechanisms contributing to the effectiveness
of the experimental instruction mainly included discussing and sharing, observational learning, self-reflection, guided practice,

Prospective elementary teachers’ (N = 148) motivation to participate in whole-class discussions during mathematics content courses for teachers, as expressed
in their own words on an open-ended questionnaire, were studied. Results indicated that prospective teachers were motivated
by positive utility values for participating (to achieve a short-term goal of learning mathematics or a long-term goal of
becoming a teacher), to demonstrate competence (to achieve performance-approach goals), or to help others (to achieve social
goals). Negative utility values for participating were expressed by those who preferred to learn through actively listening.
Five motivational profiles, as composed of interactions among motivational values, beliefs, goals and self-reported participation
practices, were prevalent in this sample. Self-reported variations among participants’ utility values and participation practices
suggested that prospective teachers engaged differentially in opportunities to learn to communicate mathematically. Results
provide pedagogical learner knowledge for mathematics teacher educators.

This paper introduces a model of knowledge sharing in an online community of practice that suggests that knowledge contributions will be made by those who possess the relevant knowledge. For them, matching a ready-made solution to a problem is low cost. We hypothesize that lead users – due to their characteristics – are likely to possess more relevant solution knowledge and thus be centrally involved in contributing knowledge. Our results support the hypothesis by showing that lead user characteristics relate positively to making contributions to the community. In addition, we find that search and integration of knowledge from different external sources of relevance to the community positively moderates knowledge contributions by lead users. 相似文献
