Sports Infrastructure,Legacy and the Paradox of the 1984 Olympic Games

The 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games created a new sponsorship model for organising committees, changed perceptions about the value of hosting the Games, encouraged greater reliance on television revenue and generated a $232.5 million surplus. Although observers rarely cite sports venues as a 1984 legacy, the Los Angeles Olympics resulted in the construction or improvement of nearly 100 sport facilities in Southern California in three decades following the Games. These sports spaces served more than 500,000 young people annually. Much of the construction funding came from grants made by the LA84 Foundation, which was endowed with Southern California's share of the 1984 surplus. The Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee (LAOOC) achieved a surplus by producing substantial revenues while tightly controlling costs. A key element of cost control was limited spending on Olympic venues. The LAOOC built only three new venues, relying on existing stadiums for all other venues. The LAOOC's construction budget was significantly lower than those of other Olympic organisers in the 1980s and 1990s. Thus, by building very few new venues for the 1984 Games, the LAOOC laid the groundwork for a legacy of sports fields, tracks, gymnasiums and pools built or improved after 1984.     

A House Divided Against Itself Cannot Stand: Problematizing Public and Private in Organized Religion

Poll results consistently reveal Americans' high interest in spirituality, yet also point to a dearth of participation in religion. I position organized religion's waning attractiveness as an organizational communication issue as I analyze the discourse of an alternatively organized housechurch. Utilizing feminist principles, I position the organization and notions of church within a context of scholarly and societal notions of public and private. I qualitatively explore what motivates this group to adopt and maintain alternative patterns and practices that both enable and constrain members. Moreover, I draw attention to paradoxes and tensions that arise and are navigated as members negotiate traditional applications of public and private and enact alternative ways of organizing within the tradition-laden domain of Christianity.     

Encouraging Identification with the Larger Campaign Narrative: Grassroots Organizing Texts in Barack Obama’s 2008 Presidential Campaign

Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign motivated thousands of people to train, organize, and recruit volunteers to get involved at the grassroots level. In this essay, I study a set of training manuals used during the 2008 Obama campaign and explore how four key rhetorical devices encouraged volunteers to identify strongly with the campaign. Using Kenneth Burke’s theory of identification, I analyze how (a) “Respect. Empower. Include.,” (b) the Story of Self, (c) volunteer recruitment and retention, and (d) the Obama “O” symbol fostered a sense of mission and commitment to the larger campaign narrative.     

关于加强成教院团建工作的思考

高校共青团组织在高校育人工作中有着特殊的地位和优势,充分发挥其团结、引导和教育青年大学生的育人职能,具有十分重要的意义。该文章以闽江学院成教院团建工作为例,针对成人教育学院团建工作目面临的新情况、新问题进行分析探讨,并提出相应对策。

We propose an improved theoretical approach to the rich variety of collective action now present in public life. Toward this end, we advance a conception of collective action as communicative in nature, and offer a two-dimensional model of collective action space, comprising dimensions for (a) the mode of interpersonal interaction and (b) the mode of engagement that shapes interaction. We illustrate the perspective by describing the location of a variety of contemporary collective action groups within it and by an explication of the space that reveals its utility for making sense of modern collective action efforts. Specifically, we apply the collective action space to illustrate the changing presence of collective action groups over time, deviations in collective action groups through changes in size, shape, and location, and variations in the experiences and motivations of people engaged in collective action efforts. Finally, we show how our communicative approach to collective action can integrate the insights of several theoretical traditions, including collective action theory, social capital theory, and aspects of organization theory.

基于迭代自组织数据聚类阈值PCNN的图像分割法

基于迭代自组织数据聚类阈值的脉冲耦合神经网络的图像分割算法改进了传统脉冲耦合神经网络在图像分割中由于不恰当的参数选择而导致图像欠分割和过分割的问题.基于迭代自组织数据聚类阈值的脉冲耦合神经网络图像分割算法无需确定参数和循环次数,也不需要用特定原则确定循环结束的条件,只需利用图像中的每个像素点的灰度值进行聚类,然后利用改进的迭代自组织数据算法确定图像的初始聚类数目以及聚类中心,并以此作为脉冲耦合神经网络的最佳阈值,一次点火过程自动完成分割.实验结果表明,这种算法具有较好的分割结果和分割速度,提高了分割的准确性.     

地方高校学报联合组稿的合作办刊模式实践与思考——以《河北农业大学学报(农林教育版)》为例

【目的】 以《河北农业大学学报(农林教育版)》为例,探讨学报合作办刊的新举措,为期刊主管部门进行期刊体制改革提供参考。【方法】 采用个案分析法,基于《河北农业大学学报(农林教育版)》地方高校学报的期刊定位和发展现状,在分析学报专业化和外向性发展趋势的基础上,探寻该刊与其他地方高校学报合作的必然性和应然性,提出联合组稿的期刊合作模式。具体方式是与有互补性质的学报进行稿件的互通有无和与高校教务处或学报编辑部合作开办“全国农业高校专栏”。【结果】 实践证明,联合组稿的期刊合作模式便于专业或层次互补的学报之间优化配置,体现集中优势,统一评审尺度,提升期刊群体的影响力。【结论】 《河北农业大学学报(农林教育版)》联合组稿的合作办刊模式,为地区性同类高校学报或同一系统高校学报分专业合作提供了参考。联合办刊是地方高校学报乃至重点大学学报的可持续发展之路。     

上级反馈对公务员组织公民行为的影响机制研究

文章是基于对北京市六家政府机关219名普通公务员进行的问卷调查分析,通过层次回归分析的方法考察了上级反馈对公务员组织公民行为各维度的作用机制。研究结果发现,在控制了人口统计学变量和工作反馈之后,上级反馈对帮助行为和谏言行为有显著正向预测作用。进一步的中介作用分析结果表明,工作投入和工作倦怠在上级反馈与帮助行为中具有完全中介作用,工作投入在上级反馈与谏言行为中具有部分中介作用。研究结果表明,上级反馈是促进公务员组织公民行为的重要因素。     

Organizing links with science: Cooperate or contract?: A project-level analysis

Links with science have been argued to improve the (innovation) performance of firms. Yet we still know comparatively little about the project-level characteristics affecting the organization of such links. Our study, based on a sample of 52 projects carried out by a multinational company in the semiconductor industry, reveals that the knowledge attributes of a project help in predicting how the R&D activities will be organized. In particular, basic projects are likely to be developed through formal cooperative agreements with universities. Such projects also tend to be strategically less important. For strategically more important projects, in contrast, and for those where the knowledge to be developed is particularly novel to the firm, the firm is more likely to resort to formal contracting with a university for a specific component of the R&D project, usually early on in the project.
