英语否定之"陷阱"

英语否定表达形式多样,方式各异。使用频率极高。如果不能明晰英语中各类否定,以中国人的思维方式及习惯用法去理解,往往会陷入误区。本文对英语中否定概念的表达方式及翻译技巧作一概括性分析。

保罗·利科在“事件”的维度上赋予言谈、话语、文学触及存在本身的“意义”。他从对当代思想中言语与劳动间关系的反思出发,将言语视为人自身的有限性构成,理论与实践的中介;在话语的时间性、意向性、主体性、他者维度上确立其事件性,话语构成意义与事件的中介;文学话语在现实的意谓之外具有意谓维度,即可能世界,其中小说和诗歌以潜在的模式意指存在本身,在日常现实之外打开了一个可能性。     

A Journey Backwards: History Through Style in Children’s Fiction

A & C Black’s Flashbacks series invites its readers to “Read a Flashback...take a journey backwards in time”. There are several ways in which children’s fiction has encouraged its readers to engage with and care about history: through the presence of ghosts, through frame stories, time travel, or simply setting the narrative in the past. However, modern critical theory has questioned the validity of traditional modes of the genre. This paper defends historical fiction for children by arguing that, whatever narrative strategy is used, such writing stands or falls through its evocation of a historical sensibility—or what Raymond Williams calls a ‘structure of feeling’. This is achieved through elements of style, both in the representation of dialogue and thought. Pastiche, sometimes thought of as an unsatisfactory feature of contemporary culture, can often perform a similar evocative function. The paper is based on close readings of Alan Garner’s The Stone Book from 1976, and 21st century fiction by Kevin Crossley-Holland, Kate Pennington and Paul Bajoria. If these books do not overtly use the techniques of “historiographic metafiction”, it may be because awareness of historiography is implicit in the very texture of their writing. Christopher Ringrose is Principal Lecturer in English at the University of Northampton, and Head of Learning and Teaching in the Arts. He is an Editor of The Journal of Postcolonial Writing, and has published on Canadian literature, literary theory, eighteenth-century literature, and autobiography, as well as writing a study of the novelist Ben Okri, published in 2006. For CLE, he wrote on Lying in Children’s Fiction in Volume 21 No.3 (July 2006).

Political clarity and the limitations of humanistic violence in the U.S. K-12 classroom

I examine the development of my political clarity and its relation to the exercise of humanistic violence as a K-12 teacher in the United States. Reflecting upon my experiences as a classroom and community educator, I conclude that the mission of forging a new humanity is currently not possible from within the U.S. classroom. Presenting a series of testimonios with reflections regarding political clarity and humanistic violence, I make the case that K-12 institutions constrain our ability to truly explore and commit to more humanizing ways of knowing and being. I recommend that we be wary of the multicultural trap: utilizing the ways of knowing and being of diverse peoples in order to better teach them how to know and be Western.

Characterization of enhancer trap and gene trap harboring Ac/Ds transposon in transgenic rice

Insertion mutagenesis has become one of the most popular methods for gene functions analysis. Here we report a two-element Ac/Ds transposon system containing enhancer trap and gene trap for gene tagging in rice. The excision of Ds element was examined by PCR amplification. The excision frequency of Ds element varied from 0% to 40% among 20 F2 populations derived from 11 different Ds parents. Southern blot analysis revealed that more than 70% of excised Ds elements reinserted into rice genome and above 70% of the reinserted Ds elements were located at different positions of the chromosome in rice. The result of histochemical GUS analysis indicated that 28% of enhancer trap and 22% of gene trap tagging plants displayed GUS activity in leaves, roots, flowers or seeds. The GUS positive lines will be useful for identifying gene function in rice.     

论柯文的中国史观及其史学特征

柯文早期的中国史观曾受“传统与现代性”两极对立理论的影响。后来,他所倡导的“中国中心观”试图超越这一理论的局限,进而从根本上否定以西方“现代性”为标准的衡量中国社会发展程度的研究模式。但柯文未能科学地把握“传统”与“现代”的关系,其史学思想具有较为明显的相对主义倾向。
