This car seems to be alive – perspectives on the documentary, Plan F

Ed Marko redefines what it means to be not only an auto mechanic but also a person who is blind. At the age of 20 years, he lost his sight from a degenerative disease called infantile glaucoma. However, he has surpassed what we traditionally think of as the capabilities of blind people. Now in his late 60s, he was once a rehabilitation counsellor, but he also enjoyed working on cars. Then he decided to open his own shop, Community Car Care, in Columbus, Ohio. Plan F , a 27-minute documentary awarded the 2007 Oxford International Film Festival Award in cinematography and nominated for best short documentary at the Southern Winds Film Festival, takes us through a day in Ed's life as we watch him work on cars and interact with his partner Brad and his cat. Ed teaches us that one does not need to see to work on cars as he uses his fingers and tongue to manipulate bolts, nuts and bearings. The ways Ed navigates the auto shop demonstrate how he approaches life. If Plan A does not work, he moves on to Plan B. Flexibility and a sense of humour allow him to switch to a new plan when the first one does not work out. In this review of Plan F , we begin with summaries of the nine major scenes of the documentary, followed by reviews by a blind and a sighted person. The piece concludes with comments from the director.

本文从高职教育的特殊性出发,认为我国中长期教育改革和发展规划纲要中应对高职教育的根本属性、各主体间关系以及运行机制等作出特别的阐述,以对高职教育产生战略性、前瞻性和科学性的影响。     

‘They get a qualification at the end of it,I think’: incidental workplace learning and technical education in England

Workplace learning is increasingly central to the international lifelong learning agenda but has made limited contributions to full-time vocational education in England during the last 30 years. A more central role is envisaged within the technical education proposed by the 2016 Sainsbury Review and Post-16 Skills Plan, with access to work placements dominating discussion of policy implementation. A multicase study of workplace learning among post-16 students in England on current ‘study programmes’ was mapped to four of the technical routes designated by the Sainsbury Review and Skills Plan, using documentary, observation and interview data. The study drew on theorisation of the workplace as the site of situated or incidental learning, whilst noting that its opportunities are differentially allocated according to organisational or personal differences, in ways that have particular implications for young people on placements. Whilst access to more advanced learning opportunities was secured through planned, collaborative approaches, reliance on incidental learning offered more routinised experiences to students less prepared for autonomous learning. The study indicates that questions of access, knowledge and pedagogy remain to be addressed if plans for ‘technical education’ in England are to provide meaningful learning opportunities and support transitions to fulfilling work.

应用QFD和案例推理的思想,利用通过QFD方法形成的质量特性及其权重来评价备选的绿色产品设计方案,然后检索出与决策者期望之间相似性最大的绿色产品设计方案。结果表明基于QFD方法可以有效地构建绿色产品设计方案中的指标体系和指标权重。此外案例推理是一种有效的绿色产品设计方案选择方法。可根据实际情况,进行绿色产品设计方案选择,具有一定的实用价值。

一般纸浆模塑制品热压整形设备采用气液增压系统,工作力小,成本高,维修复杂。为提高效率,减少能耗,选择力增益倍数大的五孔斜排式双曲肘三连杆合模机构,并使用MATLAB软件的多目标最优化函数fgoalattain优化结构尺寸,得到优化参数。为提高设备的适应性,采用PLC控制工艺流程,满足工艺试验要求;得到合理工艺参数,可调节快慢行程时间、保压时间、凸模抽吸时间等工艺参数;根据温度和压力反馈,控制模具温度和合模力。     

Efficient processing of ordered XML twig pattern matching based on extended Dewey

Finding all occurrences of a twig pattern is a core operation of extensible markup language （XML） query processing. Holistic twig join algorithms, which avoid a large number of intermediate results, represent the state-of-the-art algorithms. However, ordered XML twig join is mentioned rarely in the literature and previous algorithms developed in attempts to solve the problem of ordered twig pattern （OTP） matching have poor performance. In this paper, we first propose a novel children linked stacks encoding scheme to represent compactly the partial ordered twig join results. Based on this encoding scheme and extended Dewey, we design a novel holistic OTP matching algorithm, called OTJFast, which needs only to access the labels of the leaf query nodes. Furthermore, we propose a new algorithm, named OTJFaster, incorporating three effective optimization rules to avoid unnecessary computations. This works well on available indices （such as B~-tree）, skipping useless elements. Thus, not only is disk access reduced greatly, but also many unnecessary computations are avoided. Finally, our extensive experiments over both real and synthetic datasets indicate that our algorithms are superior to previous approaches.
