International experience,universities support and graduate employability – perceptions of Chinese international students studying in UK universities

Recent policy developments in English Higher Education have resulted in employability placed in the spotlight, whereby the success of universities will be measured based on graduate employment. This represents the latest focus placed on employability in the sector, as universities are increasingly expected to provide employment-ready graduates to meet the demands of a global economy. In response universities have invested considerable energy into initiatives and services to enhance the employability outcomes of graduates. However, institutions have largely been UK-centric on their focus, with limited attention paid to the employability needs of international students. In this paper, we report the outcomes of a study centred on the largest group of non-EU domiciled international students in the UK, those from Mainland China. Drawing on survey data we examine Mainland Chinese students’ attitudes to their employability and the support they engage with through their UK University. We pay specific attention to the opportunities presented through the ‘international’ nature of the HE experience, and consider how these are utilised by both the students, and their institutions, to develop their future employability. We conclude by proposing recommendations for universities and institutions to enhance the support offered to this often overlooked, but significant group of students.     

Coaching between experts – opportunities for teachers’ professional development

Sharing experiences among teachers is an important part of professional development. Coaching is defined as an ongoing process in which experts engage with practice, with the purpose of continuous improvement. This article will discuss the principles of peer coaching in teacher development, by examining a specific case of peer coaching between two experienced teacher educators. From this analysis, we derive two major concepts as guiding the process of peer coaching: joint deliberation and metapedagogy. These two features are conceptualized using excerpts from the case study and from the literature.     

Adventure education as aesthetic experience

This study is an investigation of what happens to participants during their adventure education (AE) experiences and the meanings they ascribe to those experiences. These topics were explored through the qualitative framework of educational connoisseurship and criticism at three sites: a backpacking expedition, a challenge course and a multi-activity adventure programme. Through 183 hours of observation and 74 interviews with 41 participants, the qualities of AE as aesthetic experience were revealed. This conception of AE experience is characterised through sensory encounters, full attention and aesthetic paradox. Findings are supported with the voices of participants, and the significance of this conception of AE experience is discussed.     

初生期创业企业商业模式预评价指标体系构建研究

鉴于当前初创企业商业模式预评价的理论和实践难题,本研究综合运用R-聚类和变异系数分析等多种定性和定量研究方法,建立了定量的、层次化的初创企业商业模式预评价指标体系。该指标体系共包括目标层、准则层和指标层等三个层次,以商业模式竞争力为目标层,以创新度、成长度、效率度、稳定度、盈利度、区隔度、包容度等为准则层,并包括新颖性、差异化程度等29个指标层衡量指标。本研究丰富了商业模式预评价研究,在当前多样化、分散的商业模式预评价研究中建立起了初步的沟通桥梁,为初创企业在诸多商业模式潜在预案中做出抉择提供了可操作的评价指标体系依据,有助于商业模式理论研究和实践探索的深入。     

高校促进科技成果转化对策研究:国内经验与借鉴——基于八省十所高校的调研

国内高校在长期的科技成果转化探索与实践中积累了许多成功的做法和经验,选取浙江、上海、江苏、广东、福建、湖南、陕西、辽宁8省10所典型高校作为研究对象,结合问卷调查法、实地调研法、专家咨询法及案例研究法,在对各个调研高校基本情况、学校政策、文献资料和访谈纪要进行梳理分析的基础上,归纳总结出6条经验做法:激发科技成果转化活力、营造良好成果转化环境、健全科研评价考核机制、建立成果转化专门机构、加大成果转化条件保障、发挥科技中介载体作用,进而提出几点启示,以期为我国广大高校及科研机构提供经验借鉴。     

科技期刊诚信危机治理的制度规范与伦理建设

【目的】 研究科技期刊诚信危机的治理方法,为解决我国科技期刊诚信危机提供借鉴。【方法】 通过文献分析,对科技期刊诚信危机进行界定,并总结科技期刊诚信危机发生的深层原因,在此基础上,提出解决诚信危机的策略。【结果】 出版制度不健全、学术评价体系不科学,以及科技期刊出版从业人员职业道德缺失等,导致了科技期刊诚信危机。可从制度规范与伦理建设两方面对诚信危机进行治理,包括完善出版法律法规和学术评价体系,推动行业伦理规约建设以及出版人员职业道德建设。【结论】 加强科技期刊制度规范与伦理建设,可在一定程度上治理科技期刊的诚信危机。     

微信公众号对提升英文科技期刊影响力的影响——以“药学学报”微信公众号为例

【目的】 探讨我国英文科技期刊微信公众号运营的思路,以提升我国英文科技期刊影响力。【方法】 采取个案研究法,总结我国英文科技期刊微信公众号的设计策略。【结果】 “药学学报”微信公众号通过宣传推广文章和构建期刊社群,成功地辅助《药学学报(英文版)》全面提升了影响力。【结论】 我国英文科技期刊微信公众号可围绕宣传期刊文章,以及运营由作者、编委、读者构成的期刊社群,以宣传期刊品牌,全面提升期刊影响力。

杜威的实用主义教育哲学及其对我国成人教育的启示

19世纪末20世纪初,以杜威为代表的实用主义思潮对美国的成人教育产生巨大影响。他将实用主义运用于教育领域从而产生的实用主义教育哲学观对成人教育运动具有推动作用。他提出的＂教育即生长＂、＂教育即生活＂、＂教育是经验的不断改造或改组＂、＂儿童中心＂的观点促使教育理论和实践的结合,通过阐述杜威实用主义教育哲学的基本主张,分析对我国成人教育的借鉴和启示。
