Associations Among Physical Education,Activity-Related Healthy Lifestyle Practices,and Cardiorespiratory Fitness of Chinese Youth

Purpose: Physical education (PE) in school provides opportunities for physical activity (PA) engagement and reportedly results in improved health-related fitness. This study explored the underlying correlations between PE and activity-related healthy lifestyle practices with current level of cardiorespiratory fitness. Methods: A total of 13,138 students age 14 (boys = 7,094, 54.0%) in Grade 8 from the China National Assessment of Educational Quality - Physical Education & Health 2015 were included in this study. Two independent structural equation modeling (SEM) analyses were conducted to obtained sex-specific results. Data included the results of the 15-m progressive aerobic cardiovascular endurance run (PACER) and questionnaire data regarding PE curriculum implementation, learning and practice, perceived support from PE teachers, PE facilities, PE equipment, activity-related healthy lifestyle practices, habitual physical fitness, appropriate method of physical fitness, and breakfast eating habits. Structural equation modeling was applied to examine the associations between variables, controlling for socioeconomic status, the location of schools, and Body Mass Index. Results: There was a statistically significant relationship between cardiorespiratory fitness and activity-related healthy lifestyle practices, which was somewhat positively impacted by skill learning and practice and perceived support from PE teachers. Together, the boy’s model explained 21.8% of the variance in cardiorespiratory fitness, whereas the girl’s model explained 15.9%. Conclusions: A well-organized PE program is related to students’ activity-related healthy lifestyle practices, and consequently provides an improvement to cardiorespiratory fitness.

What works,for whom,and in what circumstances? Towards a critical realist understanding of learning in international and comparative education

The article explores the potential for a critical realist approach to researching learning in international and comparative education (ICE) with a particular focus on the emerging post-2015 education and development agenda. It provides a critique of existing empiricist and interpretivist approaches to researching learning. It is suggested that whilst both have strengths, they are based on an ontologically reductionist view of learning with implications for research, policy and practice. As a ‘third’ research approach critical realism has the potential to build on the strengths whilst avoiding the pitfalls of both empiricism and interpretivism. Such an approach it is argued needs to start from an ontologically inclusive and laminated view of learning. Further, it is suggested that comparative research should focus on the development of theories of learning that are able to explain the natural and social structures and causal mechanisms that give rise to and inhibit learning at different scales and levels and in different contexts. The development of theory ought to embrace epistemological pluralism drawing critically on, cross-cultural, inter-disciplinary and mixed methods enquiry and making use of abductive and retroductive forms of inference. In this way it is argued it becomes possible to move beyond the dominant ‘what works’ agenda favoured by empiricists to critically consider what works, for who and under what circumstances.

纪念高鹗,其根本目的就是要更好地认识他和程伟元整理的120本《红楼梦》;正确地向国内外和我们的子孙宣传、传承“国宝”程高本《红楼梦》.俞平伯晚年两次对自己研究《红楼梦》的反思,对学界正确认识程高本《红楼梦》极端重要.程伟元、高鹗整理《红楼梦》从目的到方法都是正确地,无可指责.程本前八十回和庚辰本的优劣与正确传承、保全《红楼梦》是两个完全不同层面的问题.用庚辰本替代和肢解程本《红楼梦》是不妥当的.应该重新组织专家力量注释、校对一部优秀的程本《红楼梦》以作普及、传世本《红楼梦》.

从用户角度探讨版本著录的方法

版本信息是文献内容的重要揭示,是用户选择文献的重要依据,因此版本的著录是非常重要的。但在版本著录的实践中往往存在较大差异。版本信息包含说明性版本信息和记录性版本信息。通过对记录性版本信息与说明性版本信息及其著录意义的比较发现,记录性版本信息著录在205字段、说明性版本信息著录在200字段$e子字段的著录方法是合理的。这种著录方式使复杂多样的版本信息变得清晰明了,降低了版本著录的难度,有利于实现版本著录的统一。     

《辞源》版本的百年流变

《辞源》从1908年动工编纂至今已达百余年,在这百年间,伴随着中国社会的巨大变革,《辞源》也经过了多次的改版。研究《辞源》的版本特征,可以明显看出时代变化对出版物的深刻影响。     

评红批俞的世纪回眸

本文指出上世纪五十年代那场评红批俞运动弄错了对象:将俞平伯研究红楼梦脂本发现的“红楼梦新观念”当作俞平伯自己的观念大批了一通,所批的是“脂本观念”而非俞氏的观念,以致造成诸多纷乱,红坛的种种争论和此不无关系,进而说明以搞运动方式搞学术的弊端。
