赫德与晚清海关

鸦片战争之后,英国政府凭借强大军事实力与清政府签订一系列不平等条约,夺取在华政治、经济和军事特权。赫德担任中国海关总税务司这一要职期间,掌握了中国对外进出口贸易的税收大权,在发展对华贸易中维护英国的利益,但是其实行的海关体制方面的改革,也为中国海关走向近代化奠定了一定基础。     

论“新批评”文学理论对宇文所安唐诗研究的影响

宇文所安的唐诗研究受到新批评理论的深刻影响,这一方面体现在他对初—盛唐诗歌史的建构上:初盛唐诗歌的发展史实是诗歌题材和体裁的演变史,其主潮是宫廷诗—京城诗的演变;初盛唐诗歌大家的文学成就只有放到宫廷诗—京城诗的背景下才能真正得到理解。另一方面体现在他对唐诗进行的语义学分析上:具体表现为他以文本细读方式对唐诗展开的复义语言研究、反讽诗学解读和三部式结构分析。

通过对诗人诗歌、书信和相关评论等的研究,从三个方面追问弗罗斯特深层生态意识的形成：一是弗罗斯特的宗教信仰;二是弗罗斯特的阅读体验;三是弗罗斯特的人生阅历。     

La réception des travaux scouts de Pierre Bovet en France (1912–décennie 1930)

Le scoutisme français n’a pas toujours vu Baden-Powell comme un modèle. A leur fondation en 1911, les Eclaireurs de France refusent de traduire Scouting for boys. Mais, le philosophe genevois Pierre Bovet le traduit dès 1912 pour l’éditeur neuchâtelois Delachaux et Niestlé. Le texte anglais arrive en France malgré le nationalisme des Eclaireurs qui le maintient dans un purgatoire sévère. La traduction est saluée par un réformateur social comme Georges Bertier, directeur de l’Ecole des Roches. Dès 1921, celui-ci préside les Eclaireurs et les ancre dans l’Education nouvelle. En 1919, l’éditeur Delachaux et Niestlé a ouvert une succursale dans la capitale française. L’essor des traductions scoutes est contemporain, notamment par des cadres suisses, tels Ketty Jentzer, commissaire genevoise ou Jean Carrard, chef à Lausanne. Mais, alors qu’en 1920, Bovet écrit son livre-maître Le Génie de Baden-Powell où il analyse cette pédagogie au prisme de l’Education nouvelle, d’autres frontières émergent. Les Français qui possèdent leurs propres travaux, ont moins besoin des traductions suisses. La frontière se recompose selon une autre ligne, l’étude savante. Les Français travaillent avec des philosophes comme Edmond Goblot et Pierre Mendousse autour de la question sociale, objet absent chez Bovet. Les Français défendent le merveilleux pédagogique au détriment de l’analyse savante pouvant le mettre en cause. Bovet demeure un simple passeur. Le scoutisme ouvre et ferme les frontières, recombinées selon les modalités propres à chaque époque.

Constitutions,Institutions, and Games

We provide a new wrinkle to the Argument from Unfair Advantage, a rather popular one in the ethics of doping in sports discussions. But we add a new argument that we believe places the moral burden on those who favor doping in sports. We also defend our position against some important concerns that might be raised against it. In the end, we argue that for the time being, doping in sports ought to be banned until it can be demonstrated that our concerns can be satisfied.

罗伯特.舒曼,德国作曲家、音乐评论家,19世纪德奥浪漫主义音乐的典型代表。他的音乐思想对当时德奥浪漫主义音乐产生了积极的推动作用。其精髓在于:对音乐作品思想的进步性和情感丰富性的孜孜追求,将古典主义形式与浪漫主义情感在创作中结合这一理念的提出。本文试图对其音乐思想精髓进行简要阐释。     

Lonely Courage,Commemorative Confrontation,and Communal Therapy: William James Remembers the Massachusetts 54th

On May 31, 1897, William James, one of America's most influential philosophers and psychologists, delivered the first civic oration of his career. The principal orator at the dedication of the Robert Gould Shaw memorial in Boston, James did what commemorative speakers are not supposed to do. He chose to be confrontational and divisive in a situation that called for exactly the opposite. Nevertheless, upon conclusion of his speech the audience erupted in applause, hailing his remarks as both unconventional and fitting. In this essay, I explore how James's speech could be both unconventional and fitting. I argue that his Shaw memorial oration demonstrates a style of commemorative discourse that is conflictual, even disruptive, yet capable of serving the ends of the epideictic tradition. As I show, James used his intellectual ethos as the nation's leading psychologist to construct a kind of communal therapy session, at the heart of which was the notion of “lonely courage.” With this strangely individualistic civic virtue, James turned his audience from spectators gazing upon the Shaw memorial to active participants in the memorial's meaning. Ultimately, his individualistic notion of civic virtue stands as an alternative to other forms of civic virtue and to the patterns of epideictic discourse that authorize them.

美国汉学家宇文所安关于中国古代文学史的书写从整体上呈现出破除传统执念的特征.其《诺顿中国文学选集》重新划分中国古代文学史的某些历史分期,有助于重估这一时期的文学活动,在某种程度上形成文学史的结构性破执.他在唐诗研究中,由于提出新的意义范畴,为理解唐诗的演变提供新的叙事框架,从而实现文学史在观念上的破执.最后,宇文所安在研究中兼顾感性体验和理性分析的思维模式,突破了以往文学史叙事的单一性话语模式.
