Raised Serum Lactate Dehydrogenase associated with gangrenous small bowel volvulus: A case report

Usually CPK, CK-MB and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) enzymes are measured in blood during the period of myocardial infarction. The changes in LDH assay indicates duration of the infarction. The level of lactate dehydrogenase is 500 times greater in tissue than those found in serum. A small mass of damaged tissue causes leakage of enzyme and increases its level in serum. Any cause of tissue break down/hemolysis which is sufficiently severe can produce LDH pattern similar to that in myocardial infarction. We report this case of small bowel volvulus showing significant increase in LDH. It may be due to tissue necrosis which increases the level of LDH in serum.     

茜素红S标记分光光度法测定微量人血清白蛋白

研究有机染料茜素红S（alizarin red S,ARS）与牛血清白蛋白（bovine serum albumin,BSA）、人血清白蛋白（human serum albumin,HSA）的结合反应,选择实验的最佳条件：PH=5．10的B—R缓冲溶液3．00mL,4．00mL5．0×10-4mol／L茜素红S溶液．反应20min后,体系的吸光度很稳定,在入λ=420nm处有最大吸收峰,并且随着牛血清白蛋白（BSA）,人血清白蛋白（HSA）的加入,茜素红S的吸收峰下降．因此以茜素红S为标记物,根据其在波长420nm处吸收峰下降的程度,可用于定量测定BSA和HSA．测量BSA的线性响应范围为0～32．0μg／mL,相关系数为0．9987,测量BSA的线性响应范围为0～28．0μg／mL,相关系数为0．9968．该方法具有较高的灵敏度和选择性,用于实际试样分析,实验结果令人满意．     

Kinetic analysis of γ-glutamyltransferase reaction process for measuring activity via an integration strategy at low concentrations of γ-glutamyl p-nitroaniline

At 0.12 mmol/L γ-glutamyl p-nitroaniline (GGPNA), an improved integrated method was developed for kinetic analysis of γ-glutamyltransferase (GGT) reaction process and the integration with the classical initial rate method to measure serum GGT. For the improved integrated method, an integrated rate equation, which used the predictor variable of reaction time and considered inhibitions by both GGPNA and products, was nonlinearly fit to GGT reaction processes. For the integration strategy, classical initial rates were estimated when GGPNA consumption percentages were below 50%; otherwise, maximal reaction rates of GGT were estimated by the improved integrated method and converted into initial rates according to the differential rate equation at 0.11 mmol/L GGPNA. The integration strategy was validated using optimized GGT kinetic parameters and 10-s intervals to record reaction curves within 8.0 min. By the integration strategy, there was a linear response from 0.9 to 32.0 U/L GGT, coefficients of variation were below 3.5% for GGT from 8.0 to 32.0 U/L (n=5), and GGT activities in clinical sera responded linearly to their classical initial rates at 2.00 mmol/L GGPNA with an expected slope. Therefore, the integration strategy was successful in measuring GGT at 0.12 mmol/L GGPNA.     

The Correlative Study of Serum Pseudo-cholinesterase, Biological Parameters and Symptoms Among Occupational Workers

Cholinesterase is one of many important enzymes needed for acetylcholine hydrolysis. This study aimed to evaluate the serum pseudo-cholinesterase (BuChE) level and its relation to biological parameters (hematological and biochemical parameters) and symptoms among occupational workers, gasoline station worker in Bangkok, Thailand. Our results revealed that the average BuChE level was in normal range, but it had strong relation to hemoglobin (Hb), hematocrit (Hct), blood urea nitrogen (BUN), creatinine (Cr) and serum glutamic pyruvic trans-aminase (SGPT) (Linear regression analysis, p < 0.05, p < 0.05, p < 0.01, p = 0.001 and p < 0.01 respectively). Although, BuChE was not related to white blood cell parameters, but it may exhibit the skin irritation (p = 0.058) of the workers as it showed significant correlation to conjunctivitis and nausea (Pearson’s correlation, p < 0.01 and p < 0.05). In conclusion, this finding may explain that BuChE was significantly related to red blood cells (RBC), liver and kidney functions.     

孝感市城区3～4岁儿童血清锌、硒微量元素含量调查研究

目的：描述孝感市城区学龄前儿童微量元素锌、硒含量分布,为制定儿童微量元素干预措施提供依据。方法：幼儿园3～4岁儿童作为研究对象,采用原子吸收法测儿童血清锌、硒两种微量元素含量。用频数分布表和频数分布图描述微量元素含量分布,用SPSS12软件作微量元素含量偏低率和偏高率的统计。结果：293例孝感市城区3～4岁儿童血清锌元素含量在9～12umol／L所占比例最高,为21．50％;血清硒元素含量在2．0～2．5umol／L所占比例最高,为24．57％;血清锌、硒元素含量偏低率分别为11．94％、18．09％。     

Underestimation of Impaired Kidney Function with Serum Creatinine

Serum creatinine (SCr) levels are frequently used as a screening test to assess impaired renal function; however, patients can have significantly decreased glomerular filtration rate (GFR) with normal SCr values and making the recognition of kidney dysfunction more difficult. Hence, this study was designed to determine the extent of misclassification of the patients who have significantly reduced GFR as calculated by reexpressed four variable modification of diet in renal disease (MDRD) equation but, normal range of SCr. The study included 1040 in and out patients referred by physicians for serum creatinine measurement. When an exclusion criterion was applied 928 patients were qualified for the study. SCr was measured in 928 patients by a Roche kinetic compensated Jaffe’s assay. GFR was calculated using reexpressed four variable MDRD study equation. Of the 928 patients 270 (29.1%) had renal dysfunction on the basis of eGFR (<60 ml/min/1.73 m²). However, with SCr only 162 (17.5%) patients had abnormal renal function (>1.5 mg/dl) and SCr values misrepresented (108) 11.6% patients with impaired kidney function. In addition, more females, about 15% were failed to detect by SCr method in contrast to males of 9%. This study documented that, a large proportion of patients with impaired renal function are not diagnosed if clinicians rely solely on normal SCr as evidence of normal renal function. Inclusion of eGFR calculated by re-expressed 4 variable MDRD equation may facilitates the early identification and intervention of patients with renal impairment.     

耐力训练对安静状态和短时渐增负荷下血清氨基酸影响的研究

通过测定普通学生和长泳运动员安静状态和短时渐增负荷下血清氨基酸后发现：长泳运动员安静时血清氨基酸水平高于普通学生；与有氧供能过程中关键酶活性密切相关的丝氨酸和甘氨酸水平明显高于普通学生；短时渐增负荷下，长泳运动员较之普通学生存在更为活跃的支链氨基酸－丙氨酸－葡萄糖循环活动。结果提示，安静状态和短时渐增负荷下，某些氨基酸代谢活动对长期耐力训练有适应性改变。     

肝片吸虫感染对山羊机体无机盐含量的影响

选择 9只 6 - 10月龄的健康雄性白山羊 ,经粪便检查和DotBLISA检测 ,确认无肝片吸虫感染 ,随机分成感染组 (n =5 )和对照组 (n =4 ) ,试验组每只一次口服接种 15 0个肝片吸虫囊蚴。每周定时从颈静脉采集感染前 0周和感染后 14周血液一次 ,分离血清 ,测定血清中的钾、钙、钠、镁、磷、氯等无机盐的含量 ,旨在研究感染肝片吸虫对山羊机体无机盐含量的影响。结果表明感染后山羊血清中的钾、钠、钙、镁、磷、氯的含量均成波动变化 ,说明肝片吸虫感染后机体无机盐含量发生了不同程度的变化 ,这与虫体感染后机体的代谢发生改变有关。

Study on the serum levels of soluble intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (sICAM-1) in patients with Helicobacter pylori Infection

Objective: To evaluate the interaction between serum levels of soluble intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (sICAM-1) and Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection in patients with chronic gastritis and peptic ulcer. Methods: The serum levels of sICAM-1 in 205 patients with chronic gastric diseases were detected by ELISA method and the status of H. pylori was determined by histologic examination, RUT, 14C - UBT, and serology. The sera obtained from 18 healthy volunteers served as controls. Results: The serum levels of sICAM-1 were significantly higher in patients with H. pylori positive than those of H. pylori negative (889.43±32.52 ng/ml vs. 747.07±30.45 ng/ml, P<0.05). The serum levels of sICAM-1 in patients with mild, moderate and severe infection of H. pylori were 841.68±72.36 ng/ml, 905.43±37.59 ng/ml and 1012.54±49.34 ng/ml,respectively (P<0.05). The serum levels of sICAM-1 proved to be significantly correlated with the density of H. pylori colonization in gastric mucosa (rs =0.316, P<0.001). The serum levels of sICAM-1 in patients with chronic gastritis and peptic ulcer were significantly higher than those in healthy controls (P<0.05). Conclusions: These results indicated that H. pylori infection up-regulates the expression of sICAM-1.
