Contrasts Between Benefits Expected and Delivered Among MBA Inquirers,Students, and Graduates

ABSTRACT

A survey was conducted of three groups: prospective students, current students, and alumni. Prospective students were asked what benefits (career, on-the-job performance, and personal benefits) they expected to derive from their MBA education. Current students and alumni were asked what benefits they have derived from their education. The expectations of the prospective students were quite consistent with the experiences of the current students and alumni with respect to on-the-job performance and personal benefits, but the career benefits that prospective students anticipated far exceeded actual experiences. This study should help prospective students to have more realistic expectations and should help MBA-granting institutions to understand an important source of dissatisfaction.     

Dancing in the ditches: reflecting on the capacity of a university/school partnership to clarify the role of a teacher educator

This paper used the data collected from reflective diaries, semi-structured interviews and surveys to identify and examine common themes identified in the roles required and/or perceived for teacher educators by both teachers and teacher educators. Collaboration, discussion and critique enabled personal reflection as teacher educators worked as partners to schools in a state-sponsored teaching and learning skills project. We have termed the collaboration in such an interactive project as one of ‘dancing in the ditches’, often requiring both groups to get out of their comfortable spaces and engage with each other in constantly moving situations. The teacher educators were required to be change agents at the interface of theory and practice and their experiences reflected individual journeys, but their reflections have ongoing implications for clarifying and professionalising the role of teacher educators.     

Regional networks in education: a case study of an Austrian project

This case study presents the development of networks in education, using the Austrian IMST (Innovations Make Schools Top) project as illustration. The regional networks are coordinated in every Austrian federal province by groups made up of teachers, representatives of the educational authorities, and members of academia. In the framework of the IMST project, all networks are monitored by a team of the Institute of Instructional and School Development at the University of Klagenfurt. This article presents theoretical concepts, network structures and network activities, as well as evaluation data. The overall challenge in trying to enable sustainable development of learning of those involved might be described as keeping momentum between network structures and network processes or, in other words, between stability and flow.

Australian Waste Wise Schools Program: Its Past,Present, and Future

The Waste Wise Schools program has a longstanding history in Australia. It is an action-based program that encourages schools to move toward zero waste through their curriculum and operating practices. This article provides a review of the program, finding that it has had notable success in reducing schools’ waste through a “reduce, reuse, and recycle” (or “three Rs”) approach. Since the program's conception, an evaluation process has continually occurred alongside the actual program. This report presents the most recent program evaluation results: a 2007 statewide survey that was administered to 1,015 primary (elementary) and secondary teachers. The article outlines the past, present, and future directions of the Waste Wise Schools program and, in doing so, discusses the broader implications for school-based environmental education programs. In particular and of most significance, the findings reveal a growing sustainability culture in Australian schools and communities.     

2000-2011年中国图情研究主题的“变”与“不变”——以《图书情报工作》刊发的论文为样本

以《图书情报工作》2000-2011年刊发的论文为样本,以高频词和知识图谱为考察视角,发现图书馆学情报学相对"不变"的主题域主要有5个:数字图书馆、学科信息服务、竞争情报与知识管理、图书馆学与情报学理论研究和文献计量学研究。以关键词历年频次变化为考察视角,分别挖掘出最近6年新兴主题、增幅明显主题、消失主题及降幅明显主题若干,并筛选出30个左右"突现词"作为最具"变"的意味的关键词,以考察图书馆学情报学的情境性演变。研究发现《图书情报工作》热切关注前沿主题,在某种程度上引领着我国图书馆学情报学的发展方向。     

WEB Service环境下基于业务流程的访问控制模型设计

结合传统的访问控制的优点,在充分考虑安全性的基础上,提出了一个关于WEB Service流程的授权架构模型,实现了电子商务平台更加安全、稳定、高效运行的目标。     

基于面向服务构架的在线学习系统模块整合——在Moodle资源页面中的评分模块整合

文章分析了软件整合的需求和面向服务构架的特点,论述了如何使用基于面向服务构架的方法对软件进行模块级别的整合,以达到模块重用和降低开发成本的目标;并通过在Moodle的资源页面中嵌入简单的代码调用另一平台的评分模块服务,提供了面向服务构架的整合实例。     

勒让德多项式拟合IGS精密星历

在阐述勒让德多项式拟合算法的基础上,推导出ICS精密星历的勒让德拟合多项式,通过实例分析拟合的精度,并与经典的拉格朗日插值、切比雪夫拟合等其他算法进行比较.结果表明,在00:00:00至23:45:00时间段内8阶勒让德多项式拟合的精度高于其他任何一种同阶多项式插值或拟合方法,并且最大误差不超过1 cm.     

基于TCP/IP虚拟USB集线器的设计

随着网络技术和虚拟技术的发展,操作系统对资源的管理也由本地化转向网络化、虚拟化。研究了通过网络和虚拟技术,将网络中其他系统的USB设备资源通过网络转化的渠道直接映射到本地的USB总线上,实现操作系统的直接管理和应用。
