Improving Reference Services Through a Library Website: Strategies for Collaborative Change

SUMMARY

Websites are virtual front doors to the university library for many distance education students and for those simply choosing to access the numerous resources available to them through the library from off-campus. A driving force behind the redesign of the library website was to provide a user-friendly, content-rich website that offers assistance at the point of need, wherever the student is located. The University of Oklahoma Libraries' Web Committee's research and development focus combined with a collaborative environment provided a positive impetus for change to the library website and improved reference services to the University community.

Small business and entrepreneurship information is another area of strength on the Web. The author covers sites for general and start-up information, sites geared toward women and minorities, sites for advise and counseling, and sites for sources of capital.

ABSTRACT

The article describes the website Polska Biblioteka Internetowa (Polish Internet Library), currently a collection of many full texts of major literary works in Polish. The site will eventually also include musical scores, maps, paintings, and photographs. Title and author keyword searching is available, along with a browsable index of authors. The site is in Polish.     

以农村为中心的小城镇不同社会阶层居民体育锻炼方式的特征研究

社会分层是一种决定人们在社会位置中的群体等级和类属的一种持久模式。本文从社会分层结构的角度透视小城镇不同社会阶层居民体育锻炼方式。结果显示:社会上层体育健身选择率最高;不同社会阶层活动场地选择多数是在自家庭院、广场空地和马路边的几百米范围内的早晨进行锻炼。本文通过分析不同社会阶层居民参与体育锻炼方式之间存在的差异,旨在为越来越多"农转非"的农民(中下层)开展体育活动提供理论依据和实践指导。     

中美学术型网站链接特征的比较研究

本研究以心血管学为例 ,中、美各选择 10个研究型网站 ,通过对样本网站中超文本文件内存在的链接进行统计分析 ,对网站质量与链接特征之间的关系进行了初步探索 ,并对中、美网站的链接特征进行比较分析。在此基础上提出了心血管学研究型网站链接特征评价的参考指标     

Bridging the Digital and the Physical User Experience: Analysis of Academic Library Floor Plans

Abstract

In library user experience (UX) literature, physical and digital spaces are often studied separately. In academic libraries, different stakeholders often control and operate the logistics of each set of spaces. Additionally, library UX studies seldom consider the physical experiences of users beyond the borders of library websites or buildings. Our survey of 37?U.S. academic library websites found that 97% had some kind of digital representations of physical spaces – predominantly floor plans. A content analysis of those floor plans found that many were poorly designed, and identified two specific themes: non-accessible content and a lack of comprehensive information to facilitate the user journey. This paper offers several recommendations for building more accessible digital representations of physical spaces for the library website. These trends and recommendations are intended to be instructive for managers of library websites and elucidate larger themes about academic libraries.     

公共图书馆网站建设的现状、问题与对策

对我国现阶段公共图书馆网站的部体情况进行了分析和概括，列举了具有代表性的几个网站的主要特点，指出了存在的问题，提出了相应的对策，强调了网站建设首先应有以读者需要为依照的理念，并将之贯穿在网站的内容设置和页面设计整个过程中。

文章从图书馆网站的主要功能出发,对图书馆网站建设中版面和内容上需要注意的问题,图书馆网站在设计时应遵循的原则以及网站的后期维护、信息安全等方面分别进行了简要阐述。     

河南省武术网络信息市场的现状调查与发展对策研究

文章采用文献资料法、数理统计法、站点分析法、专家访谈法对河南省武术网络信息市场传播现状进行研究。研究结果表明:河南省不同性质和类型的武术网站总体发展较好,但仍存在官方网站缺少对武术论文、武术发明创造的介绍;个体私营武术网站内容的真实性及科学性缺乏考证,广告版面偏多,内容繁乱等一些问题。并提出河南省武术网站的发展应立足本省武术特点,抓住机遇加强武术信息的生产和有效利用;应根据不同类型和性质的武术网站大力发展河南省武术网络;加强河南武术网站建设重在增加投入,并给予政策保护;应根据上网人群的需求来建立武术网站和设立网页内容等一系列改革对策。
