The communicative imagination and its cultivation

The present essay argues that the cultivation of a communicative imagination should be a primary objective in the undergraduate communication curriculum. The essay begins by exploring and defining what is meant by the term communicative imagination. It then examines the role complex and challenging narratives can play in helping our students cultivate their communicative imaginations and, in so doing, prepare themselves for effective and humane participation in their increasingly complex social worlds.     

‘This is Me’: developing literacy and a sense of self through play,talk and stories

Children from literate home backgrounds, who have exposure to supportive, positive reading role models using good quality texts, are the ones who are best able to cope with the demands of learning about literacy and the transition from home to school. This study of 3-year-old children will focus on their interactions with picturebook read aloud, their repeated requests to have favourite books read over and over again, their developing sense of identity and their growing ability to respond to the books through play, oral retellings, drawings, emergent writing and ‘readings' of the stories in their own words. Over a period of time, as the children had a series of picturebooks read to and shared with them, they were able to identify a sense of self mirrored in the content of some of the books and to make informed choices about their favourites. The children identified themselves in the storybook narratives and went on to record their responses in a variety of differing modes some of which led to them becoming real authors as they constructed their own books to be read, re-read and enjoyed.     

道家文化对南无拳传承与发展的影响

采用文献资料、调查分析等方法,以道家思想为理论基础,通过梳理南无派发展的历史脉络,为南无拳传承的历史渊源寻找史学依据,以促进南无拳相关理论的研究及发展为目的。研究发现,南无拳是在全真道内丹修炼思想基础上,结合导引行气术形成的养生拳术,对调理脏腑功能具有特殊功效,在南无派历经30代传承,现已在洛阳地区广泛开展,为南无拳全面推广奠定了基础。
