This study explores the long-term impact on participation in the Linda Ray Intervention Program (LRIP) for children (n = 54) who were developmentally delayed and prenatally exposed to cocaine. By identifying a group of programme graduates from a high crime/high poverty neighbourhood in Miami-Dade County using ArcGIS 10.2 software, a quasi-experimental design was used to compare children living in this area who participated in the centre-based modality (5 h a day; 5 days a week) to children living in this area who participated in the home-based modality (3 h per week) on their Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) reading and math scale scores in public school. The children who participated in the centre-based modality reported stronger outcomes in both math and reading FCAT scale scores at the p < .05 level and also out-performed their school-age peers on both math and reading FCAT scores at the p < .05 level. 相似文献

Blood zinc protoporphyrin (ZPP), serum total protein (TP), and total cholesterol (TC) levels in automobile workshop workers
in relation to lead toxicity were analysed. In the present study, automobile workshop workers (healthy male workers at an
age between 28 and 35 from four major automobile workshops in Kottayam, Kerala State, India) and the control (male healthy
adults at an age between 28 and 35 residing at Aymanam, a distant village at Kottayam District, Kerala having reduced or no
chance of lead exposure) displayed significant difference in blood lead (BPb) and blood ZZP (BZPP) level. The mean value of
BPb in automobile workshop workers was 15.76±0.33 μg/dl, while in the control it was 8.20±0.15 μg/dl. In automobile workshop
workers, the mean value of BZPP was 34.2±0.62 μg/dl. The control group exhibited a mean of 11.5±0.22 μg/dl. Automobile workshop
workers exhibited significant increase in BZPP was corresponding to the increase in BPb level. The total protein levels estimated
in automobile workshop workers showed significant decrease compared to control individuals, but was within the reference range
of healthy individuals. The mean value of TP level in automobile workshop workers and control was 6.9±0.13 g/dl and 7.71±0.18
g/dl, respectively. There was no significant difference in blood haemoglobin (BHb) level among the automobile workshop workers
and control. The serum TC level in automobile workshop workers showed significant decrease compared to the control individuals,
but was with in the reference range of healthy individuals. The mean level of serum TC in automobile workshop workers was
162.00±3.44 mg/dl and the same in control was 172.86±4.32 mg/dl. The present study affirms occupational lead toxicity in automobile

This paper explores a group of Singaporean English language teachers’ knowledge and beliefs about critical literacy as well as their perspectives on how best to teach literacy and critical literacy in Singapore schools. A face-to-face survey was conducted among 58 English language teachers by using open-ended questions. The survey covered various topics related to literacy instruction including text decoding, meaning construction, and critical analysis of texts. The participating teachers believed strongly that reading and writing are transactional and interactional practices. However, they were less certain in their beliefs about teaching critical literacy including the critical, analytical and evaluative aspects of text reading. Some teachers saw a conflict between using time on teaching critical literacy and preparing students to pass their exams. As critical literacy is not a requirement at exams, they found it difficult to justify using time teaching it. The results suggest that the teachers’ belief systems are strongly influenced by the broad macro-structure of the educational system in Singapore and their own educational experiences. 相似文献

In practical text classification tasks, the ability to interpret the classification result is as important as the ability to classify exactly. Associative classifiers have many favorable characteristics such as rapid training, good classification accuracy, and excellent interpretation. However, associative classifiers also have some obstacles to overcome when they are applied in the area of text classification. The target text collection generally has a very high dimension, thus the training process might take a very long time. We propose a feature selection based on the mutual information between the word and class variables to reduce the space dimension of the associative classifiers. In addition, the training process of the associative classifier produces a huge amount of classification rules, which makes the prediction with a new document ineffective. We resolve this by introducing a new efficient method for storing and pruning classification rules. This method can also be used when predicting a test document. Experimental results using the 20-newsgroups dataset show many benefits of the associative classification in both training and predicting when applied to a real world problem. 相似文献

In this paper, we present a topic discovery system aimed to reveal the implicit knowledge present in news streams. This knowledge is expressed as a hierarchy of topic/subtopics, where each topic contains the set of documents that are related to it and a summary extracted from these documents. Summaries so built are useful to browse and select topics of interest from the generated hierarchies. Our proposal consists of a new incremental hierarchical clustering algorithm, which combines both partitional and agglomerative approaches, taking the main benefits from them. Finally, a new summarization method based on Testor Theory has been proposed to build the topic summaries. Experimental results in the TDT2 collection demonstrate its usefulness and effectiveness not only as a topic detection system, but also as a classification and summarization tool. 相似文献

目的:通过对肥胖儿童少年血脂及红细胞膜脂及磷脂酰丝氨酸(PS)外翻的研究,探讨肥胖对儿童少年脂代谢的影响,为早期监测儿童少年脂代谢紊乱提供理论依据。方法:64名肥胖儿童少年按体脂百分比分为轻度、中度和重度3组,测定其血脂六项、红细胞膜胆固醇、PS外翻量及膜Na+K+-ATPase和Ca2+Mg2+-ATPase活性。结果:①肥胖儿童少年的TC水平已超过参考标准的理想水平;②肥胖儿童少年血TG与BMI及WC、WHR明显正相关,其中和前两项指标显著性P≤0.01;③轻度肥胖组PS外翻量与其他两组肥胖者之间存在显著性差异(P≤0.05),HDL仅在轻度肥胖者和重度肥胖者之间存在显著性差异。结论:肥胖儿童少年血脂出现紊乱的潜在可能,PS外翻异常可能比血脂指标更早表现出来,因此对儿童少年肥胖发展的预测和预防可能会有更大的价值。 相似文献
