Assessment of oxidative stress and antioxidant status in age related cataract in a rural population

Oxidative stress was assesed by estimating lipid peroxidation product (LPO) in the form of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), enzymatic antioxidants in the form of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase and nonenzymatic antioxidant vitamins e.g. vitamin C, β carotene and vitamin E in either serum or plasma or erythrocytes in 190 cases of age related cataract in the age group of 50–80 years. 190 cases were grouped into three morphological types namely, 73 cases of cortical, 77 cases of posterior subcapsular and 40 cases of nuclear cataract and values of LPO and antioxidants were compared with 78 cases of age matched healthy control groups. Plasma TBARS levels were cataract cases when compared with control groups. There were no significant differences in the erythrocyte levels of catalase and plasma levels of Vit E between cataract cases and control groups. No significant changes of parameters were seen among three different morphological types of age related cataract. The present study shows that the oxidative stress may play an important role in the age related cataract.

20世纪80年代以来,美国主流环保组织的体制化趋势明显。这一趋势是主流环保组织实力不断壮大的产物,也是顺应20世纪70年代以来美国社会趋向保守这一形势的结果。主流环保组织的体制化,主要体现为环保组织自身建设的加强,环保组织间长效合作机制的建立及环保组织斗争方式的改变。主流环保组织加强了同政府及公司的合作,主张以合作为基础的第三条道路。主流环保运动的体制化有利于扩大其社会影响,美国民众的环保意识、美国社会的生产和消费及美国的环境政策都因此而发生了一定的改变。环保运动的体制化也使它在结构、制度和指导思想等方面存在诸多缺陷,从而限制了环保运动向纵深发展。     

Adept through adaptation: Third culture individuals’ interpersonal sensitivity

This study evaluated the interpersonal sensitivity of third culture individuals, defined as people who lived in a country other than that of their nationality during their developmental years, by comparing them to mono-cultured individuals. While the notion that third culture individuals develop enhanced perceptual skills as a result of intercultural adaptation is widely accepted in popular and professional literature, this assertion has not been empirically tested. Previous research on intercultural communication competence and adaptation has almost exclusively focused on intercultural exposure among adults. This study collected data from 142 individuals using web-based surveys. The instruments measured two aspects of participants’ interpersonal sensitivity: social and emotional sensitivity. Results showed that third culture individuals have significantly higher social sensitivity than mono-cultured individuals, while mono-cultured individuals reported higher emotional sensitivity. Additionally, no significant correlation was found between greater intercultural experience and increased interpersonal sensitivity.

基于Mobile IPv6的3G-WLAN网络切换策略研究

3G移动通信系统可以满足用户随时随地更快速的传输多媒体应用与实时性服务的需求,而IEEE的802.11无线网络则可以为用户提供涵盖范围较小、高速的数据传输环境。因此将两种传输技术结合为用户提供快速无缝接入的通信能力,并能在这两种传输技术间快速的切换,有着重大的现实意义。考虑到无线传输的环境中,用户对移动性的需求较高,因此本文以3GPP制定的3G与WLAN整合架构为基础,提出一种基于移动IPv6的异构网络快速切换策略,以减少用户在移动过程中所造成的服务中断和数据包丢失问题。
