‘We tend to stick together and mostly we stick to our own kind’: British Indian women and support networks at university

This paper will examine the support networks that are available to British Indian women studying at a ‘new’ (post-1992) university in the South-East of England, UK. It will examine the support that women draw upon whilst at university and discuss the ways in which these support networks enable women to develop strategies for success. Thirty-two in-depth interviews were carried out with British Indian women who were studying for a Social Sciences or Education Studies degree in one university. All of the interviews were tape-recorded and the data transcribed. The findings suggest that British Indian women are able to use their support networks to enable them to succeed in higher education. The article will draw upon the work of Putnam to argue that within their communities at university, women engage in their support networks from which they develop ‘bonding’ and ‘bridging’ social capital.     

Using Health Literacy in School to Overcome Inequalities

Health literacy has firmly established the links between literacy skills and health outcomes and is subsequently considered a key strategy for improving the health of disadvantaged populations and addressing social inequality. However, current research findings for improving health literacy have primarily focused on adults and actions within health and health care settings. Implementation studies outside the health sector are scarce. This study, a subset of the INCLUD-ED community- based project on social inclusion, reports on successful community-based approaches to health literacy. This article focuses on two schools that take advantage of the cultural intelligence of their students' family members, allowing them to make health literacy programmes more effective and useful for the participants. In addition, family involvement in educational activities addressed to children, including health programmes, has been found to improve the health literacy of the participating adults and their use of healthcare services. Findings indicate that schools in Europe can play a key role in breaking the cycle of health inequalities by promoting health literacy through education.

基于“U-K”专业实践共同体的幼儿教师职前教育改革

职前教育是幼儿教师专业发展的起始阶段,其教育质量影响到幼儿教师队伍的整体水平。当前,幼儿教师职前教育中存在偏重教育理论知识传递、忽视专业实践能力培养的问题。随着教师专业化进程的推进,重视实践教学、加强高校与幼儿园的深度合作已成为幼儿教师职前教育改革的重心。“U-K”专业实践共同体是高校与幼儿园基于合作共赢目的建设的、有助于高校学前教育专业人才培养和幼儿园教师专业成长的新型组织。它使幼儿教师的职前培养与在职发展融为一体,使幼儿园成为教师职前教育的重要力量,为幼儿教师职前教育改革提供了极好平台。

Developing a Mentoring Scheme in Primary Initial Teacher Education

Researchers have shown the benefits of mentoring in both personal and professional growth. It would seem that group mentoring would only enhance those benefits. This work represents a literature review of peer-reviewed articles and dissertations that contribute to the theory and research of group mentoring. This work reviews the articles that contributed to the development of group mentoring theory as well as relevant research. Four primary types of group mentoring emerge—peer group, one-to-many, many-to-one, and many-to-many. Despite over 20 years of research, significant gaps remain in the research methods, demographic focus, and fields of study. The review concludes with recommendations for future research.     

抗日根据地社会教育对我国农村社区教育改革的启示

抗日战争时期,根据地的社会教育在中国共产党的领导下获得了充分的发展,这对提高民众的素质和取得抗日战争的胜利做出了突出贡献,并积累了丰富的社会教育经验。在今天,社会教育的成功经验对我们改革农村社区教育提供了许多可借鉴之处。进行农村社区教育改革要加强政府管理和领导,建立农村社区教育的管理体制和运行机制,采取多种多样的教学方法,灵活设置课程内容,加强师资队伍建设,加大教育经费投入。     

苏南小城镇全民健身点体育组织与管理现状的调查研究

用现代社会调查的方法,对苏南地区64个小城镇全民健身点所在的社区进行抽样调查。结果显示,苏南小城镇全民健身点所在社区的体育组织与管理中,健身信息服务较差,组织与管理缺乏科学性、健身器材安全性不高,对此提出了相应的建议。     

乒乓球运动在太原市社区发展现状与对策研究

文章运用文献资料,问卷调查、数理分析等方法,对乒乓球运动在太原市社区发展现状进行调查.研究结果表明,乒乓球运动太原市社区中群众基础好,但参与人群表现出一定的性别、年龄和职业特征;参与乒乓球运动的社区居民时间投入比较合理,但资金投入水平总体较低,随着收入的提高,居民的资金投入结构呈平衡发展态势;虽然社区居民在参与形式和参与动机上呈多元化发展,但设施、时间和专业指导人员的缺乏依然是制约居民积极参与乒乓球运动的主要因素.本文建议:科学建立社区乒乓球服务管理网络,发挥积极分子骨干和管理作用,整合优势资源,打造基层赛事,实现自下而上的自我服务、自我管理、健康发展的社区体育新模式.
