Rationalising for and against a policy of school-led careers guidance in STEM in the U.K.: a teacher perspective

This paper reports on teacher attitudes to changes in the provision of careers guidance in the U.K., particularly as it relates to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). It draws on survey data of n?=?94 secondary-school teachers operating in STEM domains and their attitudes towards a U.K. and devolved policy of internalising careers guidance within schools. The survey presents a mixed message of teachers recognising the significance of their unique position in providing learners with careers guidance yet concern that their ‘relational proximity’ to students and ‘informational distance’ from higher education and STEM industry may produce bias and misinformation that is harmful to their educational and occupational futures.     

Moving Beyond the Lecture: Inspiring Social Justice Engagement through Counter-Story Using Case Study Pedagogy

Abstract

The paper examines participant perceptions of the effectiveness of using case studies with college students (undergraduate – doctoral) to teach social justice and educational equity. Findings indicate that participants who identified with the characters in the cases were able to draw connections between the case and their own personal experiences. They felt the cases broadened their understanding of the topics and increased their sense of empathy and their commitment to principles of social justice.

对政府投资项目风险研究,在理论上可弥补我国对政府投资项目研究的薄弱环节,在实践上防范政府投资项目风险,减少政府投资项目损失。在文献的基础上,根据政府投资项目特有的特点,采用案例研究方法,详细分析政府投资项目的决策风险、技术风险、环境风险、质量风险、债务风险、效益风险和政治风险。管理政府投资项目风险重点在于加强干部教育和完善监督制度。     

Investigating university students’ adoption of video lessons

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to examine the undergraduate students’ adoption of video lessons. The data were collected from 313 undergraduate students from Education, Health Sciences, and Letters Faculties within a large university in Turkey using a questionnaire with six constructs: ease of use, usefulness, enjoyment, intention, computer self-efficacy and relative advantage. The Technology Acceptance Model and Diffusion of Innovation Theory were used as the research framework for the study, and the data were analysed by Structural Equation Modeling. The results showed that ease of use and computer self-efficacy had a significant influence on usefulness of video lessons. Computer self-efficacy had a significant influence on ease of use regarding video lessons and usefulness of a video lesson had a significant influence on relative advantage. In addition, relative advantage and enjoyment had a significant effect on student intention to use a video lesson. Interestingly, it was found that perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, and computer self-efficacy had no effect on the intention to use video lessons. Consequently, five constructs account for 38% of the variance intention to use video lessons. The research model was found to have a good fit.
