阿普尔在中国:回顾与评论

为进一步推动国内的阿普尔研究,本文简要回顾了阿普尔的个人履历及其与中国(包括台湾)教育学术界的交往历程,并对国内(包括台湾)所做的"阿普尔研究"进行了全景式的回顾.通过对阿普尔本人的直接接触和文献研究,本文对国内一些学者对其本人的一些不甚准确的介绍做了澄清,对一些学术文章和学位论文中所反映出来的翻译、研究方法和有关"新自由主义"的歧义等方面问题进行了揭示,并对国内一些学者对其学术思想所做的草率评价做了必要的辩护.     

皮尔士与詹姆斯实用主义之比较

"实用主义"是遭受最多误解和责难的哲学术语之一。在中国,它已经完全成为一个贬义词。通过比较其创始人皮尔士和早期代表人物詹姆斯对实用主义的阐释,也许可以澄清实用主义的最初含义从而使这一哲学思想能够得到应有的正视和理解。     

Montessori and Jerome W. Berryman: work,play, religious education and the art of using the Christian language system

For more than 30 years, the thinking and writing of Jerome W. Berryman has made a significant and unique contribution to the religious education of children and adults in faith-based contexts. Claiming to be influenced primarily by the work of Maria Montessori, his writings reveal the purpose of religious education to be teaching children the art of using the Christian language system to play at the edges of knowing and being so as to creatively discern meaning and purpose in life. However, a close examination of his many journal articles and books reveal some anomalies in his approach to religious education when compared with the Montessori Method, in particular his focus on play as opposed to work, as well as creativity and the creative process, as opposed to Montessori’s grounding of the imagination in reality. These anomalies, explored in this paper, raise questions about the extent to which Berryman is, in fact, a true Montessorian.     

Are our president learning? Unpacking the enthymematic connections in the speech mistakes of President George W. Bush

The purpose of this paper is to explore public interpretations of President George W. Bush's speaking errors. One interpretation of Bush's speech mistakes offered in the media is that he may have dyslexia. Therefore, we explore how an enthymeme using markers of dyslexia as a sign of bad leadership has been used to frame Bush's speaking errors. We provide an analysis of an exemplar of how Bush's speech errors are represented in the media. Our exemplar is the desktop calendar George W. Bushisms: The Accidental Wit and Wisdom of Our 43rd President . We demonstrate that this text focused on common indicators of dyslexia, that is, speaking errors, to position Bush as a 'bad' and 'stupid' leader. Finally, we offer conclusions and implications that this study has for our understanding of politics and disabilities.     

论塞拉斯的“两种映像”观——兼谈哲学研究的目标问题

塞拉斯把人类与世界之间的关系划分为"常识的"映像和"科学的"映像。他认为,前者是关于人类自己的概念,是一种前科学的、未受批判的、朴素的人类世界观,它定义了已有的哲学反思的一个端点;后者是一种经过反思、批判和逻辑加工形成的框架,是用假定感觉不到的客体和事件来说明能感觉到的客体与事件之间的相互关联。哲学研究的目标正是向着把这两种既相互竞争又相互补充的映像统一起来的方向发展的。这种观点促进了对整个哲学史的批判与反思,为科学实在论的辩护提供了方法论的借鉴意义。但是,他把人类概念思维的社会的、伦理的和价值的维度留给常识映像,把认知与说明维度留给科学映像的做法,有可能会加深自然科学与社会科学之间的分离;他对理论实体的本体论地位的论证方式有可能陷入"理论家的困境"。

中国田园诗人陶渊明与英国湖畔诗人华兹华斯,生活在不同的国度、不同的时代,却都在各自的诗歌传统中,开创了山水田园诗主题,表达了在自然中获取自由的理想。本文以“飞鸟”意象为切入点,探讨由于中西自然观及思维方式不同,二位诗人在诗中表达了对自由的不同理解。

The measure of all things: on the use of time as a value indicator in arts impact assessment

Like money, time is a scarce resource. People used to economizing with one are likely to economize with the other. This proposition has serious implications for cultural economics (as for economics generally); three in particular are explored here. (1) Because cultural values are learned, and learning takes time, from the sorts of learning experience to which people have committed time in the past much can be inferred about their probable cultural consumption behaviour in future and about their attitudes to art. (2) The arts deliver socio-economic impact by encouraging new forms of belief – altering people's values essentially. Beliefs then influence action. Impact assessors must confront the question of value generation head on. (3) Use of time indicators will enable assessors to capture and quantify impacts which barely register on the usual money-economic scale, generating new categories of evidence directly if unconventionally relevant to cultural policy debate. The discussion is situated in historical context, drawing attention to a rich tradition of time-reflexive thinking within professional economics. The assumption underlying much of modern, purposely “neoclassical” cultural economics – that cultural value can best be measured in terms of willingness to pay or willingness to be paid money – is not strictly necessary either in economic theory or in economic practice, and for impact assessment purposes it is not always helpful. Sections following the historical introduction take careful account of recent developments in cultural economics, and to facilitate further reading frequently refer to the summative handbooks edited by Ruth Towse (2003) and Victor Ginsburgh and David Throsby (2006).
