A pillar of the Youngstown community: The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County engages in the Harwood practice

ABSTRACT

The Harwood Institute arrived in Youngstown, Ohio, in 1999; and today, over 18 years later, its teachings have made a profound effect upon the city. The Youngstown Public Library, through the leadership of Carlton Sears and Heidi Daniel, has wholeheartedly embraced the methods and ideology of the Harwood Institute, helping to reinvigorate and power a city working its way back to prosperity.     

Benefits to Collection Development Librarians from Collaborating with “Community-Embedded” Librarians-In-Training

The 21st century collection manager encounters serious challenges in collection development (e.g., budget shortages, lack of skilled personnel, lower agency prioritization, and reduced available staff time). This article explores a practical, low-cost solution to these challenges that prevent collection developers from regularly creating/managing adequately balanced collections. It discusses the role of 93 “community-embedded” librarians-in-training to develop contextually situated collections in a graduate course taught seven times in an information sciences program in a southern land grant university. Findings of collection management activity tasks completed during the course provide evidence of accrued tangible outcomes/benefits to motivate collection development librarians and their information agencies collaborate with librarians-in-training in future initiatives.     

COUNTER R5的新特性及对图书馆的影响

COUNTER是规范网络化电子资源使用统计报告数据处理、审核和提交的国际化标准,是图书馆电子资源使用量统计和评估的核心要素。目前COUNTER已经发布了最新版本R5,了解R5的新特性及与之前版本的不同对于图书馆的电子资源统计工作具有重要意义。本文拟从COUNTERR5的报告设置、报告的指标类型、数据类型、访问类型和其他完善报告的属性来解析R5,同时介绍R5对SUSHI收割的影响、"持续维护"的概念、R5发布对图书馆的影响和R5实施的重要时间节点,同时也对R5较之R4的发展和不同进行了比较和分析。COUNTERR5的主要关注点是一致性、清晰性和简单性,较之COUNTERR4有了明显的完善,同时包含了持续的维护过程,允许对代码进行更新而不必再引入一个全新的版本,解决了版本升级会对供应商和图书馆带来的各种时间和人员成本的影响。     

Contesting Communities

This introductory article to the combined special issue of Journalism Studies and Journalism Practice provides an overview of some of the key contemporary approaches to studying journalism and social order. It argues the need to step beyond a functionalist framework when considering the news media’s central role in shaping social connections, community and cohesion. To advance our understandings of social order, our paper suggests a greater emphasis of the significance of journalism’s relationship to the wider social sphere along with three other key considerations, including (1) a critical focus on the relationship between media, politics and social order, especially in defining and/or negotiating “anti-social” practices and social disintegration; (2) a more refined focus on the “imagined” and geographic boundaries of news audiences in digital spaces; and (3) the changing relationship to norms and conventions of journalism practice from trust and legitimacy to the role of journalists as arbiters and connectors across social spaces.

黄冈经济是以传统产业为主导,在推进新型工业化进程中,存在着技术水平低、产业集中度低、科技投入不足、创新能力不强等问题。本文认为,黄冈经济发展要把握重点产业,推动产业集群发展;以信息化推进黄冈工业化;加速城镇化,提高城市经营水平;全面发展服务业,提高为工业化和人民生活服务的能力;加大制度创新、科技创新和管理创新力度,走一条跨越式的工业化发展道路。

Exploring learning and fit in the transition from higher education to the labour market: A systematic review

The transition from higher education to the labour market is an important period for youngsters, characterised by extensive changes which act as triggers for learning. Furthermore, students’ educational background and the (in)congruence with their work context is important. Accordingly, the aim of this systematic review is to explore the role of learning and fit in the transition process. Results indicate that most emphasis is put on theoretical knowledge, communication, problem-solving, and learning skills. Although the perception on what has to be learned differs for employers, educators, and graduates, each group valued generic competences most. Results show that transfer can be experienced in three ways and the need for learning at work is stressed. Concerning fit, four types of fit are distinguished: vertical, horizontal, competence, and person-environment fit. Several personal background characteristics are shown to influence fit and findings indicate that fit has an influence on career progress and personal resources.

宜宾市九座古戏楼考述——《酒都文物——宜宾市第三次全国文物普查成果集成》补遗

尽管宜宾市第三次全国文物普查全面而仔细,"全市乡村普查到达率均达到100%",但笔者对宜宾市戏曲文物调查时,又查出九座古戏楼,它们分别是江安县底蓬镇古戏楼、江安县蟠龙镇古戏楼、江安县桐梓镇禹王宫古戏楼、江安县夕佳山民居古戏楼、长宁县桃坪乡玉皇楼古戏楼、长宁县梅硐镇余家祠堂古戏楼、珙县洛表镇何家大院两座古戏楼、长宁县老翁镇文昌宫古戏楼。以上戏楼具有丰富的历史文化价值,笔者实地测量了相关数据,并采访相关人士发现了因把握文物的标准不同、建筑保存现状很差等原因造成这九座戏楼被普查遗漏了。     

微博时代:90后大学生的政治意识现状及对策研究

微博是90后大学生进行政治意识表达的主要载体,大学生的政治意识在某种程度上影响着社会大众的思想意识。在微博的影响下,大学生政治意识的主流虽然是积极、健康、向上的,但也出现了政治冷漠,盲目轻信甚至是群体极化的现象。因此,政府应该加强微博立法,高校应开设公共微博,培养一批意见领袖,而大学生也要努力提高自己的微博素养,才能保证微博上政治意识表达的有序运行。
