Whitehead's Contribution to Ecological Thought: Some Unrealized Possibilities

The organizers of this conference have given me a difficult task: that of finding heretofore unfound implications of Whitehead's philosophy for environmental thought. The task is not difficult because implications of Whitehead's philosophy for environmental thought are hard to find. They are easy to find. The problem is that so many people have found them that finding something new to say is not easy.In what follows, however, some new implications are actually ferreted out. They fall under three headings: a) the interrelations between three ways of thinking about the environment: bioregionalism, land ethics, and the philosophy of organism; b) the implications of Whitehead's philosophy of organism for environmental aesthetics; and c) the implications of Whitehead's philosophy of organism for human communities (sustainable communities) viewed as interfused with living nature.

大功率白光LED的寿命计算

本文用电流加速老化实验法测试1W大功率白光LED光衰及寿命.发现光衰减存在两种过程:前期的缓慢衰减和后期的快速衰减.针对前期衰减通过指数拟合算出不同老化电流下的寿命,确认本批LED寿命和工作电流关系符合Eying模型,由此推得额定电流(350mA)下的寿命τ=1924h.     

宋代青白瓷的禅宗美学解读

宋代既是中国"瓷的时代",又是中国禅宗的鼎盛时期。文章运用禅宗美学的独特视角对宋代青白瓷的釉色、造型、装饰等方面进行解读,认为禅宗的现象"空"观、"顿悟"、"自性"、"一切色是佛色、一切声是佛声"、"闻声悟道,见色明心"等思想是形成宋代青白瓷空灵挺秀、清丽淡雅、含蓄隽永的独特风格的主要原因之一。     

A demographic and epistemological divide: problematizing diversity and equity education in traditional,rural teacher education

This study documents the experience of an Asian woman faculty in the rural Mountain West as it relates to difficulties teaching predominantly White preservice teachers about the importance of diversity and social justice to prepare them adequately with skills and materials for their P-12 classrooms in a rapidly changing world. The current challenge has its origins in US history (the macro-level) and continues into the present (the micro-level) beyond the preservice teachers to include college of education colleagues and administrators, and community members. Using nexus analysis to reveal this larger picture, the hope is to develop actions to keep the problem from persisting into the future. This study is geography-specific in that not all rural areas are predominantly White, nor do they all share the same worldview. The results suggest that rural university communities remain predominantly White in their demographic makeup and crucial actors often hold fast to Whiteness and White ignorance. This is problematic – the need to transform and change is urgent in rural teacher education programs.

解放就是“解除束缚,获得自由和发展”。人之生存的根本掣义在于解放自己,其中包括肉体解放和精神解放、个体解放和种群解放。教育是为人的,其价值旨归应是解放人,然而现代教育却成了禁锢人、奴役人的活动。在当今主体性高扬的时代,教育亟须回归初衷,回归“解放人”的价值轨道。     

Where Information Society and Community Voice Intersect

Information and communication technology (ICT) development initiatives have begun to acknowledge the power and importance of cultural and community-focused belief systems. Yet the vast majority of such initiatives tend to preidentify developmental goals that communities hold. Paulo Freire's writings have influenced development initiatives by introducing the possibility of working with communities to orient projects. While these “participatory” initiatives have involved soliciting community feedback relative to a research project whose goals were formulated in the university or development institution, they do not go far enough to harness actual visions held by communities. It is important to conceptualize a model and methodology of engaging communities to develop and articulate their own goals of information access and ultimately, an indigenous approach toward cultural, political, and economic aspects of development. This approach holds promise to sustain communities within a return on the investment and efforts of the researcher or institution. This article closes by describing a current initiative in Southern India that reflects the described methodology.
