The development of Chinese education in Malaysia, 1952–1975: political collaboration between the Malaysian Chinese Association and the Chinese educationists

This paper examines the development of Chinese education in Malaysia from 1952 to 1975, focusing on the political collaboration between the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) and the Chinese educationists to advance the cause of Chinese education instead of the usual macro policy analysis. This collaboration was compounded by the different stand adopted by the MCA and the Chinese educationists on issues relating to Chinese education. This different stand reflected the MCA’s political limitations to advance the cause of Chinese education. The MCA had to abide by the elite accommodation model adopted by the coalition government since it was a partner of this coalition. Such an accommodative approach could not meet the assertive demand of the Chinese educationists on issues relating to Chinese education. Meanwhile, the political collaboration between the MCA and the Chinese educationists was also constrained by internal conflict within the MCA that compromised the interests of Chinese education.     

The Role of Intercultural Competence and Local Wisdom in Building Intercultural and Inter-religious Tolerance

ABSTRACT

This paper examines the role of intercultural competence and local wisdom to build tolerance. Recent situation shows that the rights of religious and cultural minorities are on the decline. It focuses on the experience and practice of tolerance in kampong Buneng to prevent ethno-religious conflict. This study employs accommodation theory and qualitative approach to investigate a case study, which describes real phenomena. The findings show that convergence strategy is more dominant than divergence strategy and local wisdom found in Buneng is designed to maintain harmony between village members rather than voicing distinction amongst plural identities occupying the same public sphere.     

各国政府住房保障比较研究

“吃、穿、住、行”是民生问题。当人们“吃、穿”问题基本解决以后,“住”的问题被提升到显著位置。世界各国政府都致力于本国住房保障问题。文章对发达国家在住房保障制度中的作用与政策进行比较研究,这有助于我国住房保障问题的有效解决。     

发生认识论的理论框架

从研究问题、研究方法和理论建构三方面对皮亚杰所创立的发生认识论体系进行了初步疏理,认为发生认识论在认识论研究从哲学范式向科学范式的演变过程中影响深远。     

基于内容分析法探究大学生校外实习的适应问题

校外实习的适应性是影响大学生实习效果的重要因素之一。以大学生在校外实习中遇到的适应问题为切入点,采用内容分析法,抽取我校产品质量工程专业学生的校外实习日记本为分析样本,开展研究。研究发现:产品质量工程专业的大部分学生在校外实习过程中会遭遇各种适应问题,包括"工作适应"、"情绪适应"、"人际适应"与"生活环境适应"等。依据研究结果,为高校改进校外实习提出相关建议,以提高大学生在校外实习中的适应性。     

Making the Case for a Comprehensive ADHD Assessment Model on a College Campus

Despite increased demands on university counseling center resources, some centers are offering comprehensive assessments for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The rationale for one counseling center's decision to provide comprehensive ADHD assessments is presented, including the clinical, legal, social, medical, financial, and philosophical factors influencing such a decision. The general characteristics of the students presenting for assessment and the specific ADHD assessment process are described. In addition, the benefits of and drawbacks to such a program, as well as its applicability to other university counseling centers, are discussed.
