Leaders operating along these lines can identify high-potential initiatives and artfully adjust their behaviors to achieve the best outcomes.

Understanding the role of the mentor in developing research competency among undergraduate researchers

Undergraduate research and creative activities are established high-impact practices that provide students with both advanced knowledge of their academic disciplines and the ability to apply that knowledge to creatively answer questions. At the center of these experiences, is the close relationship between a student researcher and a mentor. Using survey data from 69 recent undergraduate researchers at one university, we investigated the characteristics and impact of these mentor–mentee relationships. We found that active mentoring practices were a significant influence on how competent students perceived themselves as scholars. These practices were more influential than practical aspects of mentoring. Our findings reflect the complicated nature of mentoring in higher education and identify key characteristics of successful mentoring relationships. With greater understanding of this essential component of undergraduate research, we are equipped to make more informed decisions regarding faculty and administrative support for future undergraduate research and creative activities.     

The Role of the School District in Student Discipline: Building Consensus in Cincinnati

The problem of student discipline disproportionately affects urban schools with large numbers of low income and ethnic minority students. Research over the past 35 years however has consistently shown that discipline policies that are understood and accepted by teachers, students, and parents and consistently enforced by school officials, correlate with lower levels of student disruption. The important role that urban school districts can play in building consensus in support of student discipline policies has not been well documented. But increased levels of student mobility in large urban areas, and increased diversity among the families served by urban districts, highlight the need for district-wide codes of behavior that provide schools with a range of discipline programs that serve the needs of their particular communities. The purpose of this article is to demonstrate how the process of developing and implementing a district-wide code of student behavior in Cincinnati played an important role in reducing disruptive behaviors leading to student suspension and expulsion. By involving all stakeholders in the development of its policies, and by responding to the concerns of all stakeholders in the range of programs it offered, the Cincinnati Public Schools was able to build consensus across socioeconomic and ethnic lines and make its code of behavior effective. On the basis of the evidence presented, it is argued that urban school districts can play a more active role in the area of student discipline. By developing and implementing district-wide codes of behavior that are understood and accepted by teachers, students, and parents, and consistently enforced by school officials, urban districts can lay the foundation on which schools can build healthy learning communities. Dr. Brown is retired from the Cincinnati Public Schools (CPS) where he served as a teacher, vice-principal, principal, and Deputy Superintendent. His responsibilities in the role of CPS Deputy Superintendent included the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, the Office of Student Discipline, and the Office of Student Affairs. Dr. Brown is currently an Assistant Professor in the Division of Educational Studies, College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services, University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati, Ohio. His research and teaching interests include urban education, alternative education, and programs for Black males.Dr. Kelvin S. Beckett holds Bachelors and Masters degrees from the University of British Columbia, Canada and a Doctoral degree from the University of London, United Kingdom. He is an Adjunct Lecturer in the Division of Educational Studies, College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services, University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati, Ohio. His teaching and research interests include urban education and alternative education.     

四连杆式独立悬架运动学分析与优化

建立了四连杆式悬架多刚体系统模型，并对车轮定位参数等特性进行了仿真，运用多目标函数的最优化方法对悬架的结构参数进行了优化，将优化前后的车轮定位参数运动学特性进行了对比，结果表明，悬架结构参数的优化对提高悬架性能具有重要作用。     

主体性创新性主动性师范性--关于教育心理学教学改革的尝试与思考

新一轮基础教育课程改革正在顺利、有序的推进。新教材、新理念也强烈地冲击着现有的师范教育体系。师范院校必须在更新观念，改革教学内容、方法和手段等方面做出表率，使培养出来的毕业生能够适应基础教育课程改革的需求。因此，在教育心理学教学改革中，应该在教学理念上，体现主体性；教学形式上，体现创新性；教学方法上，体现主动性；教学过程中，体现师范性。努力使我们师范院校的教育心理学教学改革，与基础教育课程改革相适应，并起到指导和示范作用。     

促进大学生自主学习英语的教学策略探讨

随着当前形势的发展变化,社会对大学生的英语水平提出了更高的要求。本文指出,为了切实提高大学生的英语实用能力,应当改变长期以来过于注重教师的主体作用的传统英语教学模式,确立以学生为主体的教学理念,实施促进大学生自主学习英语的教学策略。
