This paper examines the enactment of critical literacy pedagogy in secondary English language teaching in the face of globalisation. This qualitative case study signals that global citizenship education (GCE) and English as a foreign language (EFL) teaching can converge through offering equitable and globally contextualised learning opportunities. The overarching themes presented here challenge the dominance of instrumentalist orientations of EFL education in mainland China today while mobilising pedagogical choices that affirm students' local and lived experiences in relation to international socio-political issues. Findings provide EFL educators nuanced insights into how critical global literacies are extended through critical understandings of literacies, interconnections from a personal to a global level, and opportunities for social actions on multicultural issues, thus fostering globally competent and bilingual learners who critically engage with the contested terrain of an increasingly globalised world.  相似文献

This research examined the effects of using rubrics, exemplars, and self-assessment as forms of feedback in an L2 writing development course in English with Chinese speakers. The sample consisted of 114 L2 students at a university in Macau. Participants were randomly assigned to treatment groups and provided feedback on an English writing task using either rubrics, exemplars, self-assessment, or a control condition. The efficacy of these treatments was examined for both performance (on the writing task at hand) and learning (as demonstrated by performance on a new, similar writing task). Results indicate that rubrics and exemplars were effective as compared to the control condition, but the self-assessment approach was not.  相似文献

通过向574名大学生发放调查问卷,分析了解独生子女和非独生子女对《学生体质健康标准》政策的态度。结果表明:(1)大学生对《健康标准》政策内容比较认同,但独生子女与非独生子女之间有显著差异,独生子女的政策认同均低于非独生子女;(2)独生子女对政策实施的认同方面与非独生子女差异不显著,但是在过程管理、教学配合、重视程度三方面有显著性差异,独生子女要高于非独生子女;(3)独生子女对政策效果的认同方面与非独生子女差异不显著,但是在负面体验方面有显著性差异,独生子女要低于非独生子女;(4)独生子女在政策满意度方面与非独生子女有显著性差异,且均低于非独生子女;(5)独生子女在政策行为方面与非独生子女差异不显著,但是在逃避和失范方面有显著性差异,独生子女要低于非独生子女;(6)通过改变教育观念、加强大学生的意志品质的培养,加强教师的服务意识和过程管理等途径来改变学生对《健康标准》政策的消极态度。  相似文献

People often search for information in order to learn something new. In recent years, the “search-as-learning” movement has argued that search systems should be better designed to support learning. Current search systems (especially Web search engines) are largely designed and optimized to fulfill simple look-up tasks (e.g., navigational or fact-finding search tasks). However, they provide less support for searchers working on complex tasks that involve learning. Search-as-learning studies have investigated a wide range of research questions. For example, studies have aimed to better understand how characteristics of the individual searcher, the type of search task, and interactive features provided by the system can influence learning outcomes. Learning assessment is a key component in search-as-learning studies. Assessment materials are used to both gauge prior knowledge and measure learning during or after one or more search sessions. In this paper, we provide a systematic review of different types of assessments used in search-as-learning studies to date. The paper makes the following three contributions. First, we review different types of assessments used and discuss their potential benefits and drawbacks. Second, we review assessments used outside of search-as-learning, which may provide insights and opportunities for future research. Third, we provide recommendations for future research. Importantly, we argue that future studies should clearly define learning objectives and develop assessment materials that reliably capture the intended type of learning. For example, assessment materials should test a participant’s ability to engage with specific cognitive processes, which may range from simple (e.g., memorization) to more complex (e.g., critical and creative thinking). Additionally, we argue that future studies should consider two dimensions that are understudied in search-as-learning: long-term retention (i.e., being able to use what was learned in the long term) and transfer of learning (i.e., being able to use what was learned in a novel context).  相似文献
