Ratings and rankings

In this column, the editor of The Journal of Perinatal Education describes ranking systems for scholarly journals. The editor also describes the contents of this issue, which offer a broad range of resources, research, and inspiration for childbirth educators in their efforts to promote natural, safe, and healthy birth.     

荷兰教师教育工作者专业标准研究

为了提高教师教育质量和促进教师专业化发展,荷兰经过十多年的努力制定和完善了教师教育工作者的专业标准。该标准的制定以专业能力、专业知识、专业技能、专业态度、专业价值观和专业品质为基本维度,并将“自我评价、专业发展和注册程序”作为标准完善的辅助工具。这一专业标准制定的背景、发展历程、主要内容和功能对我国教师教育工作者专业标准的制定具有一定的借鉴作用。     

Educators‘ perceptions of an in-service training programme

Abstract

In-service training programmes for educators (INSET) in South Africa have a common objective, namely to support unqualified or underqualified educators to teach their subjects well. The Science, Technology, Environmental and Mathematics Education (STEME) outreach programme is an initiative of the University of South Africa to support these educators with skills and knowledge to teach these subjects efficiently. This article reports on an INSET programme for science teachers who took part in STEME and serves as a case study to investigate educators’ perceptions of the programme. The study, which involved a total of 13 educators, had two phases which were conducted during and after the INSET programme respectively. A focus group interview was conducted in the first phase while individual interviews were conducted in the second phase at the participants’ schools. Participants valued facilitators’ knowledge, continuous support and demonstration of new skills in practical real-life situations. Their main concern was applying the skills at their schools within present circumstances. This case study can serve to inform other service providers on what educators expect from INSET programmes.     

生育权侵权及其法律救济

本文认为生育权侵权可以分为外部侵权和内部侵权两大类,并联系实际分析了生育权侵权的具体形式,探讨了生育权侵权的构成要件及其抗辩事由,最后依据现有法律规定,笔者提出了对生育权侵权的法律救济方式。     

Amna Mahmoud Al-Jaydah,a pioneer in the struggle for female education in Qatar: a biographical research study

Much of the historical data, often narratives, on 19th and early 20th century women teachers in the West highlights the ways in which these women educators were influenced by religious institutions and/or the cultural, social, and political contexts in which they lived. This study uses this same lens to examine the life and work of a female educator Qatar (the Middle East) during this period. In 19th century Qatar, the rise of the kuttab system marked the beginning of communal learning for males; for females, however, education was limited to learning the Quran at home. In 1938, Amna Mahmoud Al-Jaydah, considered Qatar’s first female teacher, began to initiate significant changes in this system. This study, utilising biographical methodology with a feminist perspective, documents the life and work of Amna Mahmoud and provides a narrative of the struggle for female education in a society that often rejected the advancement of women.     

Greek parents’ perceptions of male early childhood educators

The study reported here examined Greek parents’ perceptions of barriers to men entering the early childhood education and care profession and their recommendations for recruiting more males into the field. Parents were asked to respond on a Likert scale to statements regarding males’ decision to enter the profession, possible benefits for male early childhood educators, and perceived societal attitudes towards male early childhood educators. The findings indicate that the participating parents were in favour of recruiting more males into the early childhood education and care profession but at the same time they recognize the difficulties men encounter when choosing to become early childhood educators. Recommendations for future research designs are formulated.

让校长以教育家的身份出现在公共视野

对于很多教而优则仕出身的校长,他们不仅书教得好,而且有着先进的教育理念。这些社会精英大多是怀揣远大的教育理想上任的,他们理应成为引领一方教育的教育家。然而校长作为一名有行政级别的政府官员,不得不花费很多精力在官场上运作,参加各种活动,焦虑社会的认同和政府的评价。校长成为专职的官员,离教育家越来越远,校长与教育家就像一副跷跷板,你高我低,你弱我强。     

网络教育的问题与建议

通过对近年来教育技术学科核心期刊的检索,发现与“网络”相关的一些关键词的分布特点,从而引发对现阶段网络教育的几点思考,指出目前“网络教育”仍不成熟,倡导在努力完善自身素质的基础上,不断努力提高我国网络教育的质量。     

Midwifery care: reflections of midwifery clients

The purpose of this study was to describe the lived experience of midwifery clients throughout the life span. A qualitative study using a phenomenological approach was employed. In-depth interviews were conducted with a purposive sample of 12 midwifery clients. The research question was: What has been your experience with midwifery care? Interviews were audio-recorded and transcribed verbatim. Data saturation was achieved and analysis procedures from Colaizzi were used. Five themes emerged from the data: 1) decision to seek midwifery care; 2) working together in a therapeutic alliance; 3) formulating a birth plan; 4) childbirth education; and 5) nurse-midwives as primary health-care providers throughout the life span. There is much to learn from listening to the voices of midwifery clients.
