Connecting K–12 School Media Centers to University Library Resources Through Interlibrary Loan: A Case Study From Eastern North Carolina

Providing interlibrary loan service to K–12 schools is investigated in this article. Request analysis of a university interlibrary loan service to schools is presented along with a survey of those schools’ use of the service. Results from a survey of other libraries that provide similar loan services to schools are also presented. A lengthy literature review of interlibrary loan for K–12 schools places modern offerings in an historical perspective.     

Telefax Protocol and the “Nouveau Faxe”

Abstract

Forty U.S. and Canadian medical libraries are electronically transmitting interlibrary loans to the Eastern European Medical Library of Latvia. This resource sharing initiative is an outgrowth of a pilot project of the International Cooperation Section of the Medical Library Association. The interlibrary loans are sent free of charge using the National Library of Medicine's DOCLINE system. This article will discuss the success of this program and how it started.

Balancing Act for the Future: How the Academic Library Engages in Collection Development at the Local and Consortial Levels

ABSTRACT

Collection development remains a major focus and concern of current interest for all types of libraries. Consortia began as a means of sharing resources and of leveraging purchasing power for its members. How does a library balance its individual collection needs, both present and future, when it is a member of a consortium? Do the expectations of the consortium outweigh the needs of the individual library member? This article will address how an academic library engages in collection development at the local and consortia levels, addresses the benefits and challenges of consortia memberships, and responds to its local patrons in light of its obligations and commitment to a consortium.

长期以来,省科学院文献情报服务处于相对落后状态,而需求广泛存在:科研层面需求侧重于文献信息的获取,决策与管理层面需求侧重于宏观的综合分析。中国科学院国家科学图书馆与省科学院在文献资源保障服务、信息素质培训、战略决策情报服务、文献情报队伍建设等方面开展了服务合作,并以责任馆员、签订合作协议和挂牌成立服务站、成立全国科学院联盟文献情报分会等方式建立合作机制,保障合作的有效推进,服务效果显著。     

When the Walls Came Tumbling Down: The Development of Cooperative Service and Resource Sharing in Libraries: 1876–2002

SUMMARY

This article will look at the historical development of cooperative service and resource sharing in libraries. Interlibrary Loan, union catalogs, library consortia, and electronic reference, have all impacted library work in the past century. The dissolving of walls is one of the main themes of library history in the 20th century. The developments of these years has clearly put the ability to use both human and institutional resources at the heart of contemporary library service. In looking at how this came to be, this article will examine developments in societal infrastructure and technology that made cooperative schemes both possible and economical. This article will also discuss how these developments have forced libraries to consider cooperative ways to respond to their primary service function. Lastly, conclusions will be drawn about how the emerging cooperative environment is changing the educational role of the librarian.

Inclusion and mainstream education: an equal cooperation system

By being holistic, inclusion implies the involvement of a wide variety of professionals coming from very diverse professional and institutional backgrounds. It will only find its unity in a common focus on the individual project and in the coherence of all participants' contributions, interactions and interrelationships. Because such coherent functioning is far from being spontaneous, the proposed analysis aims to identify some features contributing to the coherence of mainstream schooling situations and to the quality of the guidance of the assistant. It reveals that this coherence lies in the ability to define clearly what is expected by a mainstream education process, so that the different actors can combine an integrative perspective based on schools' needs and a participative approach based on children's needs. Secondly, it appears that guidance is likely to be appropriate to the child's needs if it is based in the coinvolvement of interindividual and organizational contractual relationships. Finally, the analysis reveals that the coherence of a mainstream education process presupposes strategies through which equal cooperation systems, taking into account inter-individual dynamics as well as organisational logics, can be created.     

产学研合作教育在培养应用型人才中存在的问题及对策

产学研合作教育是充分利用学校与企业、科研单位等多种教育环境和资源,把学校教育与生产、科研实践有机结合的教育形式。发挥产学研合作教育优势,完善产学研相结合的人才培养模式,是高等教育主动适应经济建设和社会发展对人才培养的基本要求,更是开展创新创业教育、培养高素质应用型人才的必由之路和热点研究问题。产学研合作教育在培养应用型人才方面具有重要作用,但在实践应用中也存在着观念落后、机制不健全、课程设置不合理、教师投入不够、督导不到位等突出问题,针对这些存在的问题进行分析,给出相应对策,从而为进一步完善产学研合作教育实践提供有益借鉴。
