Culturally Relevant STEM Out-of-School Time: A Rationale to Support Gifted Girls of Color

Gifted girls of color represent a potentially untapped resource for increasing and sustaining a diverse science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) workforce. Girls of color possess unique mathematics and science gifts and talents that can remain unrealized if not addressed before middle school. Culturally responsive STEM out-of-school-time (OST) activities can be an effective means to develop STEM capacity in gifted girls of color. The researchers present three considerations to support the implementation of STEM OST. First, they offer a rationale for culturally relevant STEM enrichment activities for gifted girls of color. Next, the researchers consider how culturally relevant STEM OST activities can help to close the achievement gap. Finally, they explain how professional mentorship opportunities within OST activities can help gifted girls of color navigate the STEM pipeline.

香港车牌识别系统

提出了一个香港车牌识别系统。针对香港车牌的特点,先对车牌图像进行彩色二值化、不可能字符区域的去除、水平梯度统计、基元扫描后得到车牌的大致区域,然后对大致车牌区域进行精确搜索,最后获取车牌字符,送交到后端的字符识别模块进行识别。通过大量图片的测试和实际的应用表明,本系统有着93%以上的识别正确率。

中英文化中颜色词的象征意义比较

汉英语言中表示各种不同颜色或色彩的词语都很丰富,要注意观察它们本身的基本意义,更要留心它们含义深广的象征意义。颜色词的象征意义在不同民族语言中有不同的特点,有些甚至构成了人们对经过引申、转义以后颜色的崇尚和禁忌。这种差异源于各自民族的文化历史背景、审美心理的不同,是在社会的发展、历史的沉淀中约定俗成的,是一种永久性的文化现象,应该予以足够的重视。     

4,4′-二偶氮苯重氮氨基苯与镍的显色反应

在OP -40表面活性剂存在下 ,研究了 4,4!@ -二偶氮苯重氮氨基苯 (BABAB)与镍的显色反应。在 pH =9.0 -1 0 .5的Na2 B4 O7-NaOH缓冲溶液中 ,该试剂与镍生成 2∶1型深红色配合物。配合物的最大吸收峰位于λ =5 40nm处 ,表观摩尔吸光系数达 1 .5 9× 1 0 5L·mol- 1·cm- 1。Ni2 +的浓度在 0～ 1 0 μg/2 5mL范围内符合比耳定律     

文化框架下的英汉颜色词对比与英语教学

语言是文化的组成部分,同时也是文化的载体。通过对颜色词的对比,发现不同的民族对颜色的分类及使用是不同的,这与其文化环境,历史背景有密切联系。因此,颜色词汇被广泛运用到语言中,折射出不同国家和民族的文化内涵。培养学生的跨文化交际能力,是当前大学英语教学中丞待解决的问题。从英汉两个方面对比分析基本颜色的词汇,以求对中外文化交流和课堂教学有一点作用。     

建筑色彩与人居环境

色彩在传统建筑中的应用，一方面传达着前人的宇宙观，另一方面体现了建筑与自然环境、社会文化的特殊关系。建筑不仅是物质产物，更是一种精神文化产物，是一个与自然、社会统一的整体，其色彩的使用要考虑环境、人的心理和生理特点，为现代城市建设与人居环境协调发展发挥积极的影响。     

‘It doesn’t speak to me’: understanding student of color resistance to critical race pedagogy

Scholars maintain that when race and racism are addressed as factors that continue to shape inequality in the classroom, white students often deny the validity of these claims, while Students of Color tend to feel empowered by them. However, drawing on open-ended interviews, focus group discussions, and survey data, we argue that some Students of Color resist critical race pedagogy and curriculum. Specifically, we identify and analyze how this push back is articulated through three triggers: (1) an entrenchment in majoritarian ideologies; (2) a disavowal of racialized oppression; and (3) a disinclination to scrutinize personal experiences marred by race. These dynamics illustrate what we call ‘resisting decolonization’ – a reluctance to grapple with pedagogies that destabilize dominant ideologies about race and racism in schools and disrupt mainstream ideas regarding ethnic or racial identity. We introduce this concept in an attempt to hone critical race pedagogy to better address the needs of Students of Color who sometimes unknowingly participate in the marginalization of Populations of Color through deficit thinking or through the denial of the continuing significance of race.
