ABSTRACT

The authors examined how the variability in adult conflict resolution styles in family and school contexts was related to adolescents’ positive development. Cluster analysis classified 440 fathers, 440 mothers, and 125 tutors into 4 clusters, based on self-reports of their conflict resolution styles. Adolescents exposed to Cluster 1 (inconsistency and withdrawal) reported lower self-control than those exposed to Cluster 2 (inconsistency and dominance), who reported more ability to deal with stress, effective task performance, and positive self-concept and self-esteem, indicating that dominance at the school only was related to positive results. Lower perceived stress, positive self-concept and self-esteem, empathy, and social connectedness were reported by those adolescents exposed to Cluster 3 (consistency in negotiation), whereas those exposed to Cluster 4 (consistency in dominance) exhibited the worst profile in all the measures. In conclusion, the cross-contextual variability in conflict resolution styles was associated with different opportunities for positive development in adolescence.  相似文献

员工的高跳槽率一直是困扰家纺企业管理者的难题,对家纺企业普通员工跳槽现状与影响因素进行分析,旨在为控制跳槽率、防范员工流失提供政策建议。采用企业调查、实证研究、模型分析等方法,得出员工工作压力、与领导关系、企业升迁制度、学习培训机会、与同事关系、工作回报公平性、工作机会等是影响员工跳槽的主要因素。因此,企业管理者应重视员工的职业生涯规划、完善企业的薪酬与绩效考评机制、建立畅通的正式沟通渠道,从而创造和谐的工作环境,降低员工跳槽的倾向。  相似文献

This research study investigated the views and practice of third level academic library managers in the Republic of Ireland regarding reasonable accommodation of employees with disabilities (as defined in the Irish Employment Equality Act 1998 as amended by the Equality Act 2004 Equality Act. 2010. 2010 Chapter 15. 8 Web. A mixed methods study (sample of 163 library managers) employed both an online survey (response rate 108/163) and follow-up telephone interviews (23% of respondents). Questions were based on a literature review.

Library managers were aware of a legal duty to accommodate. A majority of library managers subscribed to the social model of disability rather than the medical model. They were less aware of the needs of employees with less visible disabilities. A small majority of library managers reported the presence of an accommodation procedure at their college. A large majority of library managers would not spend more than 0–10% of the library budget on accommodation—in practice, this should be sufficient. A small majority believe that a legal obligation to accommodate is necessary. A majority would adopt a graduated approach (informal to formal) in relation to discriminatory conduct.

On the whole, the legislation was working in practice. However, further disability awareness training of staff was required, and further research should examine the views of library staff with disabilities.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Since the U.S.A. PATRIOT Act was signed into law in October, 2001, library administrators have become increasingly concerned that staff–especially student employees–continue to protect the confidentiality of patron records. Administrators have also become increasingly concerned that when law enforcement officials provide paperwork giving them legal access to patron records, staff take steps both to divulge no more information than is necessary and to protect the institution from liability. In response to these concerns, the University of Colorado, Boulder, created an easy-to-understand and easy-to-use document for its public services student employees. This article describes the process by which that document was created, how it was introduced to staff and student employees, and what additional steps are planned for the future. Finally, the document itself is included as a possible model for other institutions that may wish to create procedural guidelines for student employees.  相似文献

SUMMARY

When the symptoms of a possible sick building syndrome appeared in a library building more than twenty years ago, it was thought that the situation could be easily fixed. Instead, we are still managing a problem building although extensive work has been done and much progress has been made to moderate the physical reactions of staff and building users.
