Unmasking “ignorance”

ABSTRACT

Recent years have seen rising public talk around voting access and voter suppression, particularly as linked to marginalized and disenfranchised populations. In this reflection, we assess varied such public conversations and identify an interesting narrative encapsulating both those arguing voter suppression as a rising concern and those minimizing such claims. Organized around “ignorance,” this metanarrative does the rhetorical work of containment.     

Assessment of Containment Structures Against Missile Impact Threats

In order to ensure the highest safety requirements, nuclear power plant structures （the containment structures, the fuel storages and transportation systems） should be assessed against all possible internal and external impact threats. The internal impact threats include kinetic missiles generated by the failure of high pressure vessels and pipes, the failure of high speed rotating machineries and accidental drops, The external impact threats may come from airborne missiles, aircraft impact, explosion blast and fragments. The impact effects of these threats on concrete and steel structures in a nuclear power plant are discussed. Methods and procedures for the impact assessment of nuclear power plants are introduced. Recent studies on penetration and perforation mechanics as well as progresses on dynamic properties of concrete-like materials are presented to increase the understanding of the impact effects on concrete containment structures.     

Containment Rhetoric and the Redefinition of Third-Parties in the Equal Time Debates of 1959

This article suggests that the shortcomings of third-party presidential campaigns stem partially from a culture of rhetorical containment tracing back to a redefinition of third-parties during the 1959 congressional hearings over the equal time provision. After proposing a four-part framework for rhetorical containment, the article examines the case study of oddball perennial presidential candidate Lar Daly and his clash with the Federal Communications Commission, and an effort by the two major parties and media elite to exploit fears of his influence to portray third-parties as an invading horde of crackpots posing violence to democracy in the United States.

浅析罪犯亚文化与罪犯再社会化

文章解释了罪犯亚文化以及罪犯再社会化的内涵极其特征,分析了罪犯亚文化对罪犯再社会化的影响,并指出监狱要在封闭的、与社会相对隔离的特定环境中完成对罪犯教育、改造,使之出狱后成为守法公民。由于,罪犯亚文化对其再社会化的影响,为了避免罪犯成为再社会化的失败者,从而实现首要标准,遏制、减弱罪犯亚文化,促进罪犯再社会化不容忽视。     

试论冷战的爆发与两极格局的形成

第二次世界大战结束后 ,美国的全球扩张战略和苏联的保障国家安全战略之间发生了直接碰撞 ,并导致两国的斗争日益激烈。杜鲁门主义和两大阵营的理论不仅标志着冷战的开始 ,也标志着美苏两国对世界政治的两极看法正式确立。马歇尔计划则对冷战的激化和两极格局的最终形成负有更为直接的责任。但两极格局是既不对称也不完全的。     

Strain Growth in Containment Vessels

Strain growth is a phenomenon observed in containment vessels subjected to internal blast loading. The elastic response of the vessel may become larger in a later stage compared to its response during the initial stage. The dynamic responses of infinitely long cylindrical containment vessels subjected to uniformly-distributed internal blast loading are studied using LS-DYNA. The development of bending modes and the interaction between the breathing mode and bending modes are observed. The methodology developed for dynamic elastic buckling analysis is employed to study the strain growth phenomenon in explosion containment vessels. It is shown that the dynamic instable vibration of a containment vessel is the basic mechanism of strain growth.

冷战结束后，美国成为世界上唯一超级大国，为了确保美国的世界地位不受挑战，美国在全球安全战略上突出了遏制中国的战略选择。在亚太，由于受美国全球安全战略的影响，美国对华防范与遏制的一手较为强硬。美国加大对台军售就是其典型的表现。这种以军售为主要形式的“安全安排”，一直是冷战后美国全球和亚太安全战略的重要组成部分。因而从近中期看，美国仍会加大对台军售，但又不会走得太远，以免危及美国的国家利益；从长期看，不排除出现美对台军售恶性质变的可能。

新历史主义文学批评的批评策略和方法有二:第一,新历史主义的批评策略可称为是一种"文化诗学",这种"文化诗学"强调历史文化语境的重建,强调文学与其语境之间的相互塑造;第二,新历史主义作为一种文化批评,并不是在现实世界颠覆现存社会制度,而是在文化思想领域对社会制度所依存的政治思想原则加以质疑,从历史的对抗中发现被主流意识形态所压抑的异己的不安定因素,并揭示其"意识形态遏制"过程的复杂性,进而对意识形态与社会文化做出自己新的历史价值评判。
