The Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) has been a successful and popular initial teacher education (ITE) programme since the 1950s, with the masters level PGCE being successfully embedded within universities in England since 2007 and having high levels of student satisfaction. Recent White Papers, policy and reviews have undermined the academic award in ITE, however, favouring school-led initial teacher training and the minimum, essential professional award. Located within the Secondary ITE phase in two English universities, this article presents the value of studying education and the academic award at pre-service level via key stakeholder perceptions from interviews with teacher–educators and student–teachers within a case study. Findings highlight improvements to student–teachers’ knowledge and practice; enjoyment in working at a higher academic level; improvements to the ITE programme overall, including student–teacher support and student–teachers’ articulation of knowledge and practice; and enhanced opportunities for employability, career advancement and gaining a Master’s degree. 相似文献

Higher education confers significant private and social benefits. Māori and Pacific peoples are under-represented within New Zealand universities and have poorer labour market outcomes (e.g., lower wages, under-represented in skilled professions). A New Zealand tertiary education priority is to boost Māori and Pacific success in an effort to improve outcomes for these graduates, their communities and society in general. Using information collected in the Graduate Longitudinal Study New Zealand, we compared Māori and Pacific university graduate outcomes with outcomes of other New Zealand graduates. Data were collected when the participants were in their final year of study (n?=?8719) and two years post-graduation (n?=?6104). Employment outcomes were comparable between Māori, Pacific and other New Zealand graduates at two years post-graduation; however, Māori and Pacific graduates had significantly higher student debt burden and financial strain over time. They were significantly more likely to help others (e.g., family) across a range of situations (e.g., lending money), and reported higher levels of volunteerism compared to their counterparts. Boosting higher education success for Māori and Pacific students has the potential to reduce ethnic inequalities in New Zealand labour market outcomes and may result in significant private benefits for these graduates and social benefits as a result of their contribution to society. 相似文献

This study explores the initial public offering (IPO) and financing of biotechnology start-ups in Japan. Using a unique data set, we find that biotechnology start-ups initially backed by venture capital (VC) firms and those originating from universities are more likely to go public within a shorter period. Moreover, we find that neither staged financing nor syndication by VC firms is associated with higher IPO value relative to investment. Furthermore, we provide evidence that the timing of IPOs does not depend on equity market conditions in the biotechnology industry, whereas IPO value tends to depend on equity market conditions. We investigate if and to what extent the receipt of a “selective” subsidy – a public subsidy awarded through a competitive procedure – helps new technology-based firms (NTBFs) to access R&D alliances. In particular, we theoretically enquire and empirically analyze which founding team-level characteristics allow NTBFs to: i) get a selective subsidy; and ii) access an R&D alliance with another firm or a public research organization/university, once the subsidy is awarded. We use a sample of 902 NTBFs that operate in Italy, where industrial policy has never had an explicit and exclusive mandate neither for targeting NTBFs nor for easing their access to R&D networks. By means of several identification strategies and estimation methods, our results point to the relevance of selective subsidies in facilitating NTBFs to enter R&D alliances, independently from the objective of the policy measure. Second, founders’ technical education figures as a key determinant to get the first selective subsidy. Finally, founders’ previous industry-specific work experience allows NTBFs to better exploit the selective subsidy, by positively moderating the impact of the subsidy on the likelihood to establish a corporate R&D alliance. 相似文献

从行为经济学的视角出发,基于风险因子理论,理论解释了公司业绩与国企高管隐性腐败行为之间的内在作用机理,并利用我国A股2010-2014年国有上市公司数据,实证检验了二者关系。研究发现:公司业绩持续向好时,在参照点效应和过度乐观的双重作用下,国企高管舞弊个别风险因子上升,进而隐性腐败倾向增大;进一步,国有企业的内部治理机制以及所面临的外部制度环境会对二者关系产生影响,即八项规定的颁布与高质量的内部控制体系能够对冲国企高管的舞弊一般风险因子,有效抑制隐性腐败行为。 相似文献

对于在新兴市场或发展中国家提升中国产品的海外形象,创新和企业社会责任哪个更为重要?本文基于来自中亚六国的海外消费者的302份调查问卷数据,通过使用多重中介模型,对提升中国产品海外形象的主要路径和策略重点进行了经验分析。结果表明,消费者定位与中国产品海外形象正相关;基于技术的创新和基于市场的创新是中国企业提升在发展中国家产品形象的重要中介;消费者感知的企业社会责任对提升中国产品在发展中国家的形象也具有显著的中介效应。进一步研究显示,基于技术的创新、基于市场的创新和消费者感知的企业社会责任,对于提升中国产品在发展中国家的海外形象具有同等的重要作用,这一结论与其他地区创新优于企业社会责任的战术重点形成反差。研究结果对于中国产品在发展中国家实施“走出去”战略具有重要借鉴意义和参考价值。 相似文献
