A career workshop that applies models of the Cognitive Information Processing Approach (Sampson, Reardon, Peterson, &; Lenz, 2004) and incorporates critical ingredients (Brown and Ryan Krane, 2000) to promote the career choice readiness of young adolescents was developed and evaluated with 334 Swiss students in seventh grade applying a Solomon four group design with a three-month follow-up. Participants significantly increased their performance in terms of career decidedness, career planning, career exploration, and vocational identity. Implications for evaluation research and counselling practice are presented. 相似文献

Education in Canada is determined at the provincial level of jurisdiction. Each province and territory has a unique system of legislation and policy, although most provinces view the education of gifted students as a category of service provision under special education. The first section of this paper provides a brief, general overview of key themes that emerge from an analysis of the relevant Education Ministry documents and literature concerning gifted education and counselling within the Canadian context. Where appropriate, the particular province(s) and/or territory(s) associated with the themes is noted. The second section highlights the work of Canadian scholars most relevant to counsellors working with gifted students. A brief review of recommended counselling needs, goals, and practices for the gifted is presented in the conclusion. 相似文献

This article maps the historical background of First Nations women focusing on the residential school system, subsequent intergenerational trauma, and the effects of the Indian Act. Colonization has impacted the health and current roles and responsibilities of First Nations women. First Nations women's health needs to be viewed in a holistic framework that considers multiple levels of oppression, poverty, colonization, and life as a minority in a dominant culture. Social constructionism provides a new lens from which to question and re-conceptualize ways of working with First Nations women. Suggestions for the non-aboriginal counsellor in facilitating the healing process for First Nations women are offered. 相似文献

This study aimed at investigating differential effects between group counselling and group guidance in conducting a ‘Coping
with Stress Training Program’ for 24 Turkish university students. The dependent variables were coping with stress, irrational
beliefs and optimism. A 3 × 2 design (treatment sequence by repeated measures) was applied. As a result of the treatment no
significant difference was observed between the two experimental groups in any of the variables tested in the study; however,
both experimental groups differed significantly from a control group in respect to coping with stress. With regard to the
within-group comparisons, irrational belief tendencies in both experimental groups decreased significantly, while the level
of optimism of the counselling group and the problem-focused stress coping tendencies of the guidance group increased significantly.
Based on the findings, it was considered that the program for developing coping skills for stress might best be implemented
in a group guidance format especially in Turkey where there are limited physical resources, a low number of staff to run programs
and a high number of students in need of help. 相似文献

Bullying in schools is an international problem impacting negatively on children’s well-being. Children’s drawings can provide an insight into their emotional states. There is little published literature that uses children’s drawings to gain better understandings of the nature and impact of bullying. We report two studies using indicators of emotional distress to examine Australian primary school children’s drawings about bullying. In Study One, children’s drawings were examined using indicators of size, detail and line heaviness in terms of gender and developmental trends. The analysis showed no main differences for gender, however, there were clear developmental aspects to children’s depictions of school bullying. In Study Two, children’s self-reported victimisation was associated with the degree of detail and the relative distance between the protagonists represented in the drawings. The studies suggest that drawings could be used to counsel young people and help remediate the effects of bullying. 相似文献

This paper examines the complimentary roles and functions of African indigenous counselling in relationship with non-African forms of counselling. This paper is premised on the view that all forms of counselling, whether African or Western, stand to gain a lot from one another via collaboration and the cross fertilization of ideas. This paper examines the counselling and therapeutic contents of African language, African indigenous education, African indigenous counselling and social practices using the Yoruba culture of Western Nigeria as a reference point. Furthermore, the paper practically examines how the traditional therapeutic resources of African language, African traditional education and African indigenous counselling practices could complement non-African counselling culture. The paper advocates for the evolution of a somewhat global orientation to professional helping. This is possible if counselling practitioners from different cultural orientations develop interest in learning how different counselling cultures could complement one another. This orientation may contribute to mutual self-renewal and self-refinement for all forms of counselling. This paper primarily intends to promote the culture of sharing ideas, practices and concepts from different cultural orientations so that we may develop the mentality of a universal approach to employing counselling strategies to solve humanity's problems. 相似文献

This article gives an account of a school in which Year Curriculum Teams were created, consisting of a planned combination of tutors across subject clusters. An enhanced role and perspective for the tutor is described. Subsequent changes were accommodated well by the new system, even though the position regarding tutor continuity was changed. As with other school accounts in this issue, a sense of the particular flavour of the school comes through, alongside the structural themes which may have wide application. Charles Harper and Yvonne Barry are both members of the Senior Management Team at Burntwood School, which has recently been awarded Beacon status. Charles has taught in a number of schools including in Pennsylvania, USA. He was a Head of Art before moving into senior management. Yvonne has taught in two large comprehensive schools and was a Year Curriculum Coordinator before becoming a senior manager. Both have been involved in training staff and in giving presentations at the Institute of Education, CSCS, QME and various London schools. Charles and Yvonne are members of various working groups and advisory bodies including the Open University and the QCA. 相似文献

This article begins by detailing some of the key ideas behind the concept of peers helping peers. The history of peer support schemes in the UK and of the author's particular and important role in this development are explored. The use of Re-Evaluation Counselling in this model is described. She also details the processes of setting up and sustaining peer support schemes in schools. The factors that are key to these processes are identified and exemplified via case studies. 相似文献
