The primary obstacle that can derail the effectiveness of a debate is one in which few students are involved and all of the energy and learning is limited to a few students. This leaves the majority of students passively absorbing information and does not encourage participation among those students that typically do not talk in class. Exercise or physical activity are recommended options within stepped-care treatment models for depression. However, few physicians present these options to patients, in part because of the impression that the supporting evidence is weak or inconsistent. We speculate that the coocurrence of “counter-messaging” and deficient critical appraisal may lead to such impressions. We focus on TREAD-UK (ISRCTN16900744), the largest trial to investigate “whether physical activity can be an effective treatment for depression within primary care”. In media statements, researchers declared that exercise was ineffective in lowering depression. We examined (a) the results of the trial, critiques, and rejoinders, (b) the impact on internet searches, and (c) whether TREAD-UK was critically appraised, as reflected in citing articles. We show that the results of TREAD-UK were misrepresented. The media campaign resulted in a fourfold increase in relevant internet searches. Of articles characterising the results, 57% adopted the interpretation that exercise failed to lower depression, whereas only 17% were critiques. We identify similarities to media portrayals of the OPERA (ISRCTN43769277), DEMO (NCT00103415), and DEMO-II trials (NCT00695552). We note a disconcerting trend of media campaigns that misrepresent the effects of exercise on depression and call for increased scrutiny in peer reviewing both pre- and post-publication.  相似文献

Time-to-exhaustion (TTE) trials are used in a laboratory setting to measure endurance performance. However, there is some concern with their ecological validity compared with time-trials (TT). Consequently, we aimed to compare cycling performance in TTE and TT where the duration of the trials was matched. Seventeen trained male cyclists completed three TTE trials at 80, 100 and 105% of maximal aerobic power (MAP). On a subsequent visit they performed three TT over the same duration as the TTE. Participants were blinded to elapsed time, power output, cadence and heart rate (HR). Average TTE was 865 ± 345 s, 165 ± 98 s and 117 ± 45 s for the 80, 100 and 105% trials respectively. Average power output was higher for TTE (294 ± 44 W) compared to TT (282 ± 43 W) at 80% MAP (P < 0.01), but not at 100 and 105% MAP (P > 0.05). There was no difference in cadence, HR, or RPE for any trial (P > 0.05). Critical power (CP) was also higher when derived from TTE compared to TT (P < 0.01). It is concluded that TTE results in a higher average power output compared to TT at 80% MAP. When determining CP, TTE rather than TT protocols appear superior.  相似文献

Having challenged student resistance scholarship for glorifying forms of resistance that tend to be self-destructive to students, the field has shifted to supporting and advancing more transformational forms of resistance, such as organizing campaigns for social justice issues. While this is a welcome advance, the conception of transformative employed by researchers tends to be limited to reformist agendas. Situating student resistance in a historical context through a re-reading of Marx and Lenin offers a deeper framework for understanding and organizing student resistance. Making these points, I draw on the Mexican American historical and contemporary context for illustrations.  相似文献

The artist teacher project set out to facilitate trainee teachers’ creative practice and inform their critical pedagogy in the classroom. The approach outlined in this article encouraged them to consider predictable and formulaic practice, and to question, reflect upon and challenge orthodoxies in their teaching of art, craft and design. They critically appraised their practice within a community of reflective practitioners in critical presentations, and in their reflective writing, and discussed and debated the contradictory positions between what they explored in their individual practices as artists and that experienced in the classroom. This project highlighted how fundamental the critical presentations were because the peer‐review, feedback and support, facilitated dialogue in a creative, dynamic space and community of practice. These ‘crits’ also became a forum for airing frustrations and trying to come to terms with the re‐emergence of their artist identities while at the same time, having to suppress many of their convictions and ideals in order to conform to what they found on school placement.  相似文献

通过将绿色经济评价指标体系的五个不同方面作为约束条件引入模型,可客观、有效地得出影响各评价对象绿色经济发展状况的关键因子。主要做法:一是利用离差最大化优化模型对各评价指标赋权,保证所求权重的客观性与合理性。二是将5个不同层面分别作为制约条件引入评价模型得到模型最优解。三是分别对有、无制约条件下的各评价对象的排名波动情况进行分析比较,确定各盟市绿色经济的发展差异以及影响其发展优劣的关键要素。实证结果表明,环境保护的相关方面对各盟市绿色经济发展影响最大,资源承载力及人的全面发展方面次之。  相似文献

基于绿色发展理念视角下构建开发区PPP项目关键成功影响因素指标体系,采取ISM和F-ANP相结合的方法对PPP项目成功影响因素的关联性和重要性进行分析,并得出其关键成功因素的影响程度权重值综合排序。研究表明,绿色PPP项目经验与技能、政府监管持续性和政府对项目支持意愿是开发区绿色PPP项目关键成功影响因素中的深层次因素,是引导社会资本参与并积极实施绿色生产技术的核心推动力,进而对最终提供的产品和服务的质量和效率产生影响。  相似文献

心理成长的概念是对心理发展的概念的超越。发展心理学提供了关于人的心理发展的学说,但发展心理学的研究一直存在着重要的缺失。用心理成长概念去替代心理发展概念应该成为考察人的心理行为的一个重要的理论转换,新心性心理学则实现了这一重大的研究范式的转换。这种范式转换包括:将着重于生物和生理转向着重于心理和心性,将着重于成熟和发展转向着重于成长和提升,将强调心理的直线发展转向全面扩展,将强调心理的平面扩展转向纵向提升。心理成长不是孤立的,它与心理资源、心理文化、心理生活、心理环境和心理生成有着重要的关联。人的存在、人的生活、人的心理、人的成长等,可以按照个体、群体、民族、社会、文化这五种方式来考察。  相似文献
